Player Email Verification
a_bertrand replied to KyleMassacre's topic in Free Modules (Requests or Offers)
Well blue, I'm talking for the many web game registrations I tried, and my own codes... Maybe you was more lucky than me. Anyhow, it is for me just an annoyance more than any real value. But as said, personal opinion. If you want email verification Kyle offers one. So nobody can complain ;) -
Oh oh! I decided to go with NWE and...

1) Not being my full time work, things are implemented when I have time, and depends of how important those are ;) 2) As said, you should not need any modification of the core. If you do, then I did something wrong or you missed one of the existing feature. That's why you should ask before simply modifying the core. It's not prevented and you are fully allowed to do so, simply if you do it, you will loose the option to upgrade to future versions as easily. 3) None of the modules leave footprints beside user variables, configurations keys and tables. None of which should have any impact on the speed. No modules are allowed to modify anything outside of their own module directory, so simply scanning the module directory should tell you which files are in ;) -
Player Email Verification

Well, I told you why I personally don't like and don't trust email verifications, and this is why it's not an official module. But it's your game, your call and you can do as you wish. -
Player Email Verification
a_bertrand replied to KyleMassacre's topic in Free Modules (Requests or Offers)
It's not a default module because I'm strongly against email verifications systems. Why? Because 90% if the time those kind of emails end up in the spam or even worse get totally filtered out. In best cases it's an annoyance for the player in the worse case it stops them. Anyhow it doesn't filter double accounts as smart guys know how to create new email accounts or use temporary emails to just register. For all those reasons I believe (and saw) that an email verification is one of the worse thing to do during registrations. Anyhow why do you need an email? To send a newsletter? To ensure a player have only 1 account? To be able to do a password recover? What for? -

1) We need more info about module upgrades, we should also have screenshots or other for each modules to show exactly what they are. 2) Normally you should NOT edit any of the core files. Why? Because if you do, you will basically have an hard time in case of core upgrade. So before trying to dig inside core file editing, tell us here what you need. I'm quiet sure you normally will be able to solve your issue with a normal module. 3) Un-install usually simply involve in deleting the module directory, you may have to still delete the tables by hand. Why is there no delete module? Because I'm somewhat unsure about how I want to implement it. -
Things can be improved yes. You could make more customizations without resorting to the coding. That would still not mean you will have all games the same, but that may blocks what people will be able to do to what the software allow.
-
There is a difference between customize something, and create a new logic Dom. Customize, add conditions, actions, even rules could all be done without writing a single line of code. Creating a brand new module (for example creating a forum when the engine doesn't have it) will hardly work in my opinion.
-
Well then, try to do one ;) I doubt it's all that feasible. I doubt also there is thousands of people running a game based on McCodes yet more without coding experience.
-
Convert to code what? A sentence? A node based diagram? Air? sorry but be a bit more specific. For example NWE does have a wizard system inside the admin menu which let you produce conditions and actions without writing the code yourself and yet produce PHP code out of it. But is it enough to produce a mod? nope sorry... And if somebody is not willing to invest the time and effort to learn to code, then maybe he/she should do something else, right?
-
Because it's call a pre-made game, and there is already many options for it.

You are welcome. -
Well I would personally never give away my players info, that would be like annoy them with useless spam, even if your game would be good. Be smarter, use other advert techniques ;)
-
Well depends what kind of privacy rules you have on your site. Normally it's not a good practice, and would pretty much be like a spam.

Mmm basically a "one button game maker" yea sure... sure... it should be near the "make me rich" button. Sorry Serin but that's kinda of utopic. Why? Because ANYTHING good requires effort. Behing music, art, book, or a game ;) So thinking that you can simply put a few checkbox and get the game you want is just plain stupid. Even if the engine supports all the features you need, you would still need to define the rules, the story, maybe the art, maybe the quests, and in any case some content. That will never come fully free, otherwise, either you have all random generated, or every game is basically the same. In both cases => not really interesting.

Are you currently developing any kind of game?
a_bertrand replied to Dominion's topic in Question of the day
I'm developing one too. May take quiet some time to finish. -

Personally I'm not. Why? Because it has been SOOOOO long they talk about it. Promise things. Promise it will come on date X, and then disapear for yet around 6 months. So when it will come, if it will come I will judge. But saying I'm exited, or interested? Nope sorry. -
It's a bit like the first 3D games I played long long time ago. Honestly I don't like much the effect.

Which RIA technology you think is the best?
a_bertrand replied to a_bertrand's topic in Question of the day
Silverlight is dead. Flash works basically only on desktop PC... and I doubt it will survive very long. Sockwave is basically dead as well. Remains JS / HTML5 (with it's pro and cons) And tools like Unity 3D -

Somehow I still don't fully understand why you guys complain about the fact McCodes owners own this forum as well. Did they blocked (maybe beside a couple of my posts) anyhow to post anything? Or do they force you to buy their product instead of another? do they block other engines? No. They pay the bills and somehow maintain the servers as well. We as community should be grateful for it. Of course it's a shame they don't invest more time on the forum to share their opinions, roadmap or chat. But that's another issue, it is not for that, that the forum is going down. Saying that they don't offer a V3, V4 or whatever is not a good reason either. There is alternatives (like do your home work and code it yourself). The only issue I could have was the issue with their mod list which didn't asked the owners if they agreed, and the fact that discussion degenerated. They are picky as many of us if your touch their things. Try saying their code is not good and you will see the result ;) Anyhow beside that they leave the community pretty much in peace. Maybe the issue is that MdShare did kept the community a bit more alive introducing new content, contests and trying to point people to this forum, while personally I don't do it. So maybe the issue is that MdShare went to new horizons and left us in the mud... that the community is not good enough to attract new members beside new comers which simply ask always the same things and old members don't share their knowledge anymore. -
I don't have other skins ready, and NEaB is not exactly using the same code.
-
All is possible but you will have to do it. That means that the existing code doesn't have those features.
-
Happy if could have helped you.
-
And make sure one mod don't break another one maybe ;)

I must sadly say chicka is right... but the decline is old... Anyhow, there isn't much which can be done in my opinion. -
What happened to all the Pathogen Games mods for NEAB?
