Do mods for 2.0 work Aswell with the redux version?
Dominion replied to LearningCoder's topic in General Discussion
Well it does appear simply to be copy and paste people who have asked for help on the forum or in chat (I have not been as active in chat the last month or so) have had difficulty. Simply do a search on the engine. One example of such threads include a poll – http://makewebgames.io/showthread.php/39803-Redux-Installation-of-ne-Mods So as I said before I would start with the free version if you’re going with mccodes. Also there is never any harm in shopping around. I would also recommend basic programming experience if you haven't already got any. This would mean starting with open source code, and making a more full decision later to ensure it's what you should be using to get your project where you want it. -
Depends on the end product. Something like a pure text based engine (or even full game) is not going to take you two years. Something more along the lines of NEAB or nebular rider (A_b's other project) is not something you get done in a matter of weeks. As for your claim about building a site ready for a full opening that quickly I will assume you mean ready for the Beta testing since I for one claim that as part of development. Would have added yet more time depending on the people testing and what they found. Everyone is different in time frames, and what they actually produce. You can't normally say if it's taking to long unless you have seen the product and even then it's simply an opinion. Just as A_b's is on a good time frame to set yourself.

I'm sorry to hear that. I would suggest their support if you haven't already tried it. I just pointed out your post in IRC to ColdBlooded so he has at least seen it.

Do mods for 2.0 work Aswell with the redux version?
Dominion replied to LearningCoder's topic in General Discussion
You can make them work, but honestly if you read around it seems people have been having trouble with both the base engine, and converting even with the tutorial. I would suggest starting with mcc free (assuming you defiantly want mccodes), and looking at other options before buying anything. -
I already deleted one of your posts for language. Please stop swearing. As for the feedback take it into account, look at the logs to see where the user has gotten in, and fix it. If you need help ask. There is no shame in asking, and as long as it's a good thread (e.g. spell checked, clear detail of problem you want explained etc) I would be happy to help you.

I'm not playing with your demo I installed a fresh version. Change the template to something else (simple brown for example), and then try to use them. I haven't tried to fix it yet (nor do I remember the exact error), but it's probably something you just forgot to put in the other templates.

Custom Work For Your MCCode Game [v1/v2/v2.5]
Dominion replied to Cronus's topic in Paid Modifications
If you have something to say (even if it's a rant) then feel free to do so, but please keep it clean. All you're doing is adding to the clutter that pops up. @Topic, I would like to know who you pick to outsource my work to when you do so. If the person asks could they find out or is it out of the question (since as you said you would fix/ take the blame for bad work). -
I voted "if people can't upload....", but honestly if people are having problems because of the way NWE is currently setup (not that I understand how) then this is a good idea. Otherwise, if it's a failing on their part, you could spend you're time on other things.

I swear they said this was fixed(I know, I know). Are you using the most updated version?
-
Everything under "demo" in the menu gave me an error (Ajax calc, click, refresh, sync), but other then that I have yet to find anything error wise. Amazing update. Well done Alain.

Please don't post people's Ip's without some kind of evidence. Blocking an IP is not a solid way to stop attacks in any case (since most are dynamic or people can proxy), but it's not a good idea to post them like this. Second text speech is annoying, but I guess people will be able to read it. Spelling wrong, and missing letters is just bad typing. If English is your first language, and you really are twenty, consider reading some of your posts through before posting them. It just looks bad. I genuinely thought English was a third language for you or something along those lines.

why are people shocked someone could set it up without it being done for them? Maybe his version of being new doesn't mean he has never used a basic program before. That or he has not tested it fully, but sooner or later he will figure out if it's broken. Anyway in answer to your question there is a free modification on here that uses timestamps rather then crons. If you would like to continue using the crons get the $_CONFIG['code'] (may be a different name, but will be at the top of the cron files) code out of the cron files (just echo/print it), and set it up as you would any other cron. If you're not sure how to do this search watch this - it's based on mccodes LITE but the principle is the same.

To be honest I agree with the viewpoint that it depends what you set out to achieve. If you set out to learn, and finish with greater understand, more confidence, and maybe even making a small sum when you open up your site... well it’s a success. From a business point of view I feel it takes a lot more than just the website itself to decide if it’s a success. For example say you spend two+ years getting a game ready, and earn £10k over the course of another two years. When you account for both the programming time, and the time it takes out of your day to run it (would vary from game to game depending on updates, time to staff it etc) could you have earned more by simply doing freelance jobs? You also need to consider the investment into the game (for example design and cost of the engine if you’re using one), and if that was really worth it. At the end of the day it’s all opinion on if the game is successful or not. If you open the game as a business then you will never consider it as successful as someone who opened it for fun, and is earning a relatively nice amount.

Maybe have a publicly available full (or perhaps slimmed down if it's a massive document) license agreement publicly available so people can answer things like this before they buy? Just a thought.

I didn't look at the facebook page. The screen shots do show it much better, at least shows it's different from the stock site posted on here. I wish you the best of luck, and will be checking the site out when it opens.

First off welcome back. Haven’t seen you around much, and on this trail of thought I have some advice. First off read up on mccodes latest changes here(http://makewebgames.io/showthread.php/41711-MCCodes-reformation), and maybe look at the v1 copy that is now free. Just as a free vs paid comparison you can keep in mind. I would also read up on the new engine by A_Bertrand found @ http://makewebgames.io/forumdisplay.php/389-New-Worlds-Engine it’s probably the best paid one on MWG right now. Once again just to see what you offer VS. Them. I would also ask to see a small sample of a file so we can see what the quality is like (would probably help with sales), along with possible future plans from yourself. Where do you plan on taking the engine. Also mention anything else the engine runs for example smarty (if any template system at all), and even if all the files are commented out.

If they win, they deserve it (bar a bad decision of course). The England games were actually really good. France we didn't win (nor did either team deserve to). The other two games we played well. What else do you want?
-
Other then the SES (something I'm not really sure players will notice day to day) what features do you have that will keep someone playing the game? If you don't want to say yet that's fair enough, but you haven't really made the game seem unique on the players front from the post. On a positive note: Judging by the login page the design of your site is very nice.
-
mccodemods.com has a free vote mod from Cronus. I would say try that out before buying one. On the a side note if you're finding you make spelling mistakes often (for whatever reason), and you're about to post have word open and spell check what you type. In threads that involve helping you fix a problem having others understand you is key. Not so much here, but it's easy enough to do.
-
Both are run in the day cron so check it's setup correctly.
-
There would also be those that paid $100, but before 2.5 was announced. They also paid the $40 rather than the $120. Other then that I guess it's just to stop people making a quick profit from it. So people would by from him instead of mccodes.com? Why he is that low is down to someones advice (says in one of his posts), but selling something on normally has to be lower then the original site. Since he is selling he is not going to be using the engine? The discussion is if he can make back some of the money he lost. Seems a good idea to remake some losses if you can.
-
If you think the problems in globals can we see the area you think it's in?
-
Actually my question was the one of topic (but relavant to the side topic of his experience) was not saying anyone else was. Normally people do just assume they have no experience. There you go. :)
-
Why do people always assume new members have never programmed before? As a more on topic note, I'm fairly sure if there is a login problem it should be made a priority. Kind of pointless for a site like that if someone can't login (or annoying in this case and unprofessional).

The idea of the market is simple; All modifications checked over by the original creators of the system, and easy for customers to purchase from. Developers have their product checked over, and gain feedback in order for a better all round experience. Just to show I get what you’re aiming for. As I was the last time this idea popped up in a market such as this I am against fees. From a business point of view (so yours) at the very least you need to consider dropping them until you have a line of developers adding new modifications on a regular basis. This shouldn’t really include the mccodes team. As for the actual advantages rather than the idea of it being simple? For the engines as they stand I see nothing for the developers. Those who would get your mccodes certificated status already have a reputation within the community without the need to give up the 10% fee. As for the customers they may get the modification a little faster, but the chances are they would pay more due to the fee. I don’t see the advantage on the developer’s side, and if they don’t use it the customers can’t. Those who have been around a while, and I really don’t mean to sound offensive here, won’t put much stock in your check over as it stands. What I would suggest is listing those who check each modification. For example something checked over by Paul would for me mean more then something checked over by an unnamed developer. Link that to the mccodes team bio, and maybe bring in one or two volunteers for larger modifications. This probably won’t be possible until the market grows. Seems the new site is designed to work with v3. That is of course fine, but you could integrate something into v2 allowing people to have the same features you plan for v3? Otherwise what’s the point in using it right now? That is the question that seems to be puzzling people.
