Without trying to offend, but with trying to kick people up the arse and into gear..

Will the administration please get on top of and handle the friggin' spam?!

Sick and tired of seeing it. Spammers are posting more content than the users - go figure

Also, the session handling ain't doing so well - not even 2 minutes being logged in and I'm logged out again? This is with activity during typing posts (to ensure the session doesn't time out..)

Addendum: If this topic gets closed/locked before the spam is handled, says a lot..

I agree we need mods who are active! Haven't seen any off the for a while, I had spoke to Dave a week or so ago and he removed some spam and explained it's due to him changing verification process :(

This post clearly outlines the issues with MWG, staffing issues aside.

Someone can post for help and get one of 2 replies - no and chitty.

Someone comes on here to complain and boom, a page full of equally as useless drivel.

And we wonder why the decent dev's have all given up on this place and rarely post.

An owner doesn't make a forum (although fixing spam issues would be nice - that or get a working "Mark all as read"), the users do ... and now we have no users who wish to contribute much, so who cares who the owner is - the place is dead.

I cleaned up what I could as I got linked to this thread but my account really shouldn't still be a staff member. I check up on the site once every few months (maybe) and haven't been an active part of the community in well over a year.

Dave Macaulay has also been linked (I did it through the chat on gitter) so hopefully he can fill you all in, pick a new staff team, and get things moving.

Hmm. The problem is I moved us back to Recaptcha as the previous captcha system had actually blocked all new user registration. So naturally the bots saw this and started solving them like hot cakes.

I'll have a look into this and see if we can curb the spam!

So I've enabled new registration moderation, this requires manual intervention for new accounts.

It seems like Dominion has done a great job at curbing the current spam but I'll keep an eye on the site to ensure the spam is resolved.

Do you actually care? No comments on that!

You know, funnily enough, I do!

I wouldn't have created this topic otherwise..

I've spent years on this site, learning from it and adding to it (not necessarily all good content, but added content all the same).

Criminal Existence (now MWG) is effectively my root to how and where I started coding.

Unlike some on this site (mentioning no names, and no this isn't aimed at you), I actually want to help new developers. We live in an age where it's a good skill to have.

I would like to get this site more active again. Not really sure how (beyond advertising of course and I can't do that for mwg) but I've been a member since 2009. It's sad to see the membership so low.

I suppose one of the best ways would be to get interesting topics going again. Anyone building anything new? Make a dev log.

Of course, at the same time, you have to make people WANT to post -- and snippy replies from the peanut gallery is a surefire way to ensure they don't.

Have you tried No Captcha reCaptcha? It's better than the V1 version in use currently.

There has already been some spam today, so it would seem that the bots are actively logging in to already created accounts.

I'll certainly investigate that, for now I'm going to keep on manual registration approvals and remove spam accounts as they come online to spam.

I've updated the forum to the latest version of vBulletin, I've also installed the latest version of reCaptcha to try and curb this problem.

The new topics links seem to be gone unless I'm missing something

You're right, it went missing with some of the user group changes I made behind the scenes. This should have returned in all it's former glory, alongside the never seen before "Today's Posts" link.
