Kieran-R Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 (edited) If you were to create a new game today, then what game engine are you most likely to use? Edited June 9, 2011 by Kieran-R Quote
W3Theory || Peter Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Year 1920 is pretty much from scratch so I'll have to say scratch then haha Quote
Rory_M Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 World War II Game Well I am going to start making a Text Based WWII game, stuck for name at the moment, so my answer is completley true lol. I chose MCcodes by the way. Does anyone have any feature/name ideas for a World War II game? Quote
Danny696 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Well, the best idea you could have is not to use Mccodes. Quote
The Spirit Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 This kinda thing makes me wonder why isnt there a better engine on the market Quote
JohnGato Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Well as much as I would like to say that i would do if from scratch, i just dont have the knowledge yet to accomplish that. So in the mean time I put McCodes Quote
lucky3809 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 (edited) from scratch... I like to know what the hell im doing lol..making your own engine has many advantages then to buy one.. Edited June 10, 2011 by lucky3809 Quote
Djkanna Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 from scratch with DJK as he is awesome! You're just as awesome. :D From scratch. Quote
a_bertrand Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 As I always said: from scratch, for a simple and good reason: I want to make MY game not make yet another game like X and engines tends to be... way to restrictive and blocks your thinking. Quote
Nickson Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I have voted from scratch, since I'm a very complex man ... yet I wouldn't mine using a framework, or a partial base. For instance, unity3D or other *real* engines. But I guess many of you could agree on that. Quote
a_bertrand Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Indeed unity3d is something I would personally look into. Quote
Sim Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I would code my web game from scratch, if I was ever "attempt another MMORPG" for the pc, I wouldn't create it from scratch even though it was a very great 4yr learning experience. Quote
ZERO Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 if i had the time and the skill then i would code it from scratch , but tbh i dont have the skill to create a engine or the time so i would go with mccodes. Quote
runthis Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I would love to get my hands on one of those proprietary game engines like GTA's are based off of, or Gears Of War is based off of. edit: +1 for Unity3D btw Quote
sniko Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 @runthis; I read somewhere that unreal engine costs $500,000 and thats with Unreal engine advertising on loadup Quote
Sim Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 The Unreal engine is used in a lot of PC games now-a-days, mostly FPS Quote
Danny696 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 @runthis; I read somewhere that unreal engine costs $500,000 and thats with Unreal engine advertising on loadup Not quite sniko, To sell your game it costs $99 for the licence, and 25% of everything you make over $500,000 Call of duty actually uses an edited version of the Quake engine, which is free. frontalwarfare.com Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 If you know python, Blender is a lot better than Unity3d :) Quote
bluegman991 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Blender is 3d modeling software. It can be use to make 3d models but not a 3d game. Although it can be used with unity to make a 3d game. Which is what i'm doing. Quote
frontalwarfare.com Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 You can make 3d games with blender. Quote
bluegman991 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Ok so you can. Unity looks like it has way more to offer seeing that it specializes in game making and blender specializes in 3d modeling. Quote
a_bertrand Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Sorry but I could not agree less. Unity 3D offers C# or Javascript coding with integration with VisualStudio or not. Offers even profilers, and special effects which blenders can only dream of. For me blender is a cool free 3D modeling / rendering software but certainly not a pro soft nor really a game engine.
