CrazyElk Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Greetings One and All, Could someone please explain (an admin) why the 'What's New' section still appears in the right sidebar on the front page? I wish to take this opportunity to ask that this section be removed forthwith for the following reasons: The marketplace was removed and there is no intention to restore it in any form. None of the content in that section is new. None of the items listed there are able to be purchased. All the links attached to any of that content are now redundant. The section is superfluous. I have included a poll for the masses (term used loosely). Regards CrazyElk. Quote

A couple of regulars here displayed an interest in taking it on with a view to trying to restore it to its former glory but someone else took up the mantle and now it just languishes in disrepair. I approached FoohonPie with a view to purchasing the site but he replied, " am not interested in selling it." MWG's future is not looking to good I fear, with almost no new meaningful content, very few visitors, a serious lack of interest by vested parties and a considerable influx of bot accounts ... looks like AI is indeed the way of the future. 🙂 1 Quote
newttster Posted March 12 Posted March 12 I agree that there is little activity from "regular" posters. However, every time I'm here I check to see who has been on and just about every time there are numerous "guests" that have stopped by or are in fact checking posts and topics. Just because it doesn't "looks" like much is happening doesn't mean it isn't. I stop by every 2nd or 3rd day to see what's new and to check information on old posts and occasionaly ask for some help on stuff that I'm doing. So, despite the fact that there aren't 20-30 new posts every day, the site is still active. I'm glad that it's still around so that I have things that I can reference for help. Quote
Dayo Posted March 12 Posted March 12 I have removed the section from the home page, as like you said it does not make sense. It was a 3rd party plugin outside of the marketplace module so thats why I missed it. Quote

You make a valid point regarding the numerous guests dropping by and like as not some will actually be real visitors but I cannot help but wonder how many of those guests are crawlers for the various search engines, I believe a look at the analytics would be interesting. On that note, check the 'Who's Online' panel from time to time and note the plethora of bot names found, then click on the name to find nothing apart from that name. I am glad that you are glad it's still around, I also visit regularly both logged in and as a guest, with a view to observing latest developments but alas they are few and far between. I think the biggest thing we can take away from your post, is that MWG's has indeed become a site intentionally or not, dedicated to 'reference', an historic accumulation of posts from days gone by with very little now offered going forward. NB - I am confident there are those silently criticizing my input and likely some would enjoy a legitimate reason to ban my account but I will continue to offer my insight, if for no other reason than to provide some interesting and current new content occasionally, in light of the absence of same by others. @CrazyElk 2 Quote

So let them criticize. If they haven't got the courage (using a polite word here) to say it (write it) it out for all to see, then that is on them. There's nothing wrong with discussing things from opposing sides. Part of the problem with today's going ons is that people are afraid to express or discuss what they are thinking and feeling. The ones who talk and scream the loudest are the ones who are heard, and detrimentally in most cases, taken as being the assumed general publics feelings on certain things as well. So, if you have something to say, then say it. If people choose to keep their counter points to themselves, then, they have no leg to stand on when something is implimented. 3 Quote

Youve hit the nail on the head with this.. I think MCC has come to the end of its run and until a more up to date version has been found then we will see the decline of this in the group.. Having said that GL engine from Dayo seems to be a firm favourite and is clinging on... There are so many factors why people have stopped posting or have lost interest in the forums and thats cos we age and move on. MCC and GL were front runners in the day but now everything is apps a quick buck if you will. I genuinly miss the old days of posting on here and getting instant responses.. But what you said above in the qyote is completly the truth the forum has become an Historic reference... 2 Quote
Canjucks Posted March 16 Posted March 16 I agree I miss some of that action from yestieyear around 2010. BUT there were some very unkind unhelpful comments at the same time which made it harder for me at least to want to post then. I think we had a boost to the forum because of COVID and as most have returned to full time work getting busy again the forum has seen a decline in activity. As much as I love GL , we have been promised a release for some time now and hasn't been forthcoming (no offense Dayo just making a point about being busy). For me I still enjoy coming back to the forum. Depending on how busy I am, I might post or just forget I was going too. I guess not having a marketplace has slowed things down more so. The openPBBG forum is dead also. I made a happy xmas post and not a single person reacted or helped spread the good word. I'll still have the forums open in my browser though. Quote
