Hi I know this is kind of a personal question, but I was wondering what kind of revenue you guys earn from your games. Maybe a ballpark estimate of monthly or weekly earnings? I'm just really curious as the how well these games actually do.

That all depends on how unique your game is. If you have a basic game that has the same to offer as almost all other Text based RPG games your not going to make much. But if your game is unique, has plenty to offer, your layout is good/unique and with the right advertising campaign you could make quite a bit.. You can make anywhere from $1 usd a month to 3-5k usd a month. It all depends on how much time and effort you put into your game.

I think this point will be raised, so i might as well say it;

- To make a decent profit/income you need to spend money.

To make money, you need to spend money

And i agree with chicka

good luck.. I highly doubt anyone is gonna actually tell you how much they are making..

I can tell how much I am making :)

Hosting:~$60;

Income so far: $0;

Total: -60 :P

And I will repeat what was already said. You will never make anything by just buying MC codes, and uploading to your server. MC codes is off course a good place o start developing your game. But you will still have to do work to get it going (And no... Uploading all free mods there is will not cut it, even though there is some really good ones out there :P).

I hope it will change when I have it finished lol

To most people that have replied: I am completely aware of how to properly market and run a game, i am in no way asking for help on how to make money for a game. The Question i am asking is how much people are making right now... Yes yes yes i know it's a personal question and i might not get an answer but even a rough estimate of how much your site pulls in a week/month/year would be good to know. I'm just very curious as to if there is a range and what i should be shooting for (although the sky is the limit for me, i don't plan to have a cap of how much revenue i can generate).

well heres a good guess if you set your dp's at $5 each and you have 35k members playing and only 10 % (3.5k) donates $50 each a month that would be quite a bit... but usually it does not work that way, it takes time to generate that amount, with dedication to your players, the more dedication you put into your game and updating it with players suggestions the more income you make... As for mccodes engine if someone is just uploading it to a server and then making it public adding NOTHING it would probably only make $5 a month, if even that... quality of a game is what brings in the bucks...

I can tell you that I make $30-35/month just from Google Ads.

Hard to say what my monthly is because I've had times when I've made quite a lot in a short span of time, been in the negatives for a few months (forcing me to cut back on ad spending) been a few months where I break even and then had surges again.

  • 2 weeks later...

This is not meant to be sarcastic in any way.

My first and foremost thought on this is why would that be one of your first questions. Shouldn't it be something along the lines of what interests you in a game and what keeps you there? Features, layout, support staff etc. Secondly ... I don't think anyone does or should go into designing a text based game hoping to support themselves with it.

I have been working on my own game now since November and I have maybe about 10% of it completed, if that. Part of that is due to the fact that I am learning step by step. If you already know php and mysql then you are already way ahead of me. The other part is that I have 2 full time jobs, neither of which allow me to devote the time necessary to complete my "project" and get it out there.

Issues to consider (IMO)

Can you devote 100% (or close to it) to the game once you have it up and running? Are you willing to give up your full time job to do so? Can you afford to? The reason I ask this is because I have played some games where the owners are only in it for the money and it shows in their attitude. Poor support ... sarcastic answers when asking for help ... that kind of thing. If you are fortunate to find people to help you with your game, such as moderators, game greeters etc that you absolutely trust and that you can give them your personal contact information to that they can call you to elt you know when there are issues AND you have a job that allows you the freedom to respond to the calls then that is fantastic. Otherwise you run the risk of losing players at a very quick rate.

Don't get me wrong ... when my game is up and running ... it would be fantastic to see some income from this, even if it's just enough to pay for the server time but my first priority would be to have something that I am proud of and that players enjoy spending their spare time playing and that they know that the support is there if and when needed. If you can accomplish that ... then I think you will see people will be more than willing to make those donations to your game. Any amount would be considered a bonus. Right?
