Zeggy
I think notepad and vi should be separate options as they are completely different :P
a_bertrand
Zeggy: true but they are simply the most basic tools you may use, that's why I placed them in one option.
sniko
I use Crimson Editor (:

sniko
They would select the option 'other' ..?
Nickson
Yes danny, they could select other :P and thank god for multiple choice polls! I use Visual studio for all .net related work, intelliJ for java related matters and komodo edit (free ide part) for others like php
Danny696
Ech, didnt see other :P
icecoldchillin
for my editor i like code lobster php edition but also i got my start with html pad.
galdikas
Well decided to change my editor... And so picked the one with most votes,.. Hm... I like the block collapse feature in Notepad++, and it looks like there is more advanced than Context. But due to different syntax highlighting i find it difficult to code. Probably just need to get used to new highlights :P But still I think that Context has better hightlighting than N++, but N++ has better features
a_bertrand
Komodo would be a lot smarter than notepad++. I'm actually surprised by how many of you used such tool. It's not bad, actually much better than the normal notepad (that some of you still use), however it's far from a complete IDE which can offer inline help, code completion, and even ftp integration. galdikas
Wait a moment? There are people actually using ordinary notepad??? I cant believe that :D

Djkanna
Whats VI??? http://www.vim.org/
galdikas
OK.. Just another quick word. So I switched to notepad++, and I really love it. However, for anyone starting php, I would really recommend starting with CONtext. Simply because of way better syntax highlighting, which will really help you when starting, believe me :)
a_bertrand
I would say anyone using PHP should instead work with Komodo ;)
Redeye
I use notepad. Old school, but those who can use it and succeed are the best (and stubbornest) coders out there :P Yep, I am that cool xD [by best, I mean those who can be bothered to troubleshoot all the problems and do things manually] Edited April 13, 2011 by Redeye Just wanted to clear up a little joke which may have been taken the wrong way
a_bertrand
Notepad will work... simply you may discover that you code at least 2x as fast with some smarter editor... But please continue to work with notepad, I will look so much smarter :p
Danny696
Simply because of way better syntax highlighting, which will really help you when starting, believe me :) Surly you'd find npp syntax highlighting better if you started out with it -.-
Sim
Visual Studio for PC projects, Dreamweaver for web projects. ;)
Djkanna
Visual studio, I like partially however I don't use it at this time. Notepad++ for quick edits, and usually MCCodes mods. Vim,NetBeans and Aptana for my own projects, usually NetBeans.
