Gungneer Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Ok, so I was just wondering what would happen if someone was caught using a copy of MMCv2 without a licence. (i.e a certian "someone" accquired a nulled version of the script) Quote
Dayo Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 your webhost would be contacted and your site would be shut down, if mccodes found out about it Quote
Gungneer Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 But what would happen if the scripts were hosted on off shore server that specifically says it hosts Warez sites, and Nulled scripts? ;D Quote
Djkanna Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 The host would probably eventually be sued by anyone :P Quote
Gungneer Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 That doens't always happen... Have you seen ThePirateBay? They're still active despite NUMEROUS legal threats, and even a raid or two. XD Quote
Djkanna Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Any you may notice it's quite possible it's owned by some form of goverment so be carefull there... Quote
Renkia Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 The fact is! If you don't have a license, you don't have prove NOR permission to use MCC! Quote
Gungneer Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 you don't have proof NOR permission to use MCC! fixd... Damn, I've been spending too much time on 4chan. -_- But yeah, I DO know that. ;D Quote
Spudinski Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 The golden rule of hosting: everyone is always hosted by someone. Most sites that would allow warez is hosted either on some VPS, or Dedicated server. MCC would contact the original hosting provider, and will have to have the whole server shut down. Quote
Zeggy Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 If you have a host that is able to host warez (and these do exist), then not much can be done about it. Most likely though, these hosts are not very high quality. As for the pirate bay example, it is not valid as they do not actually host anything illegal on their own servers. Quote
rulerofzu Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 yeah your game is gonna be real fun to play on a server the backend of nowhere so that it cannot be taken down. The lag is gonna mean its not taken seriously. Quote
CrazyT Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Most offshore servers are completely shit as they always get attacks and thats a fact! Quote
Zero-Affect Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 How is your offshore site Alan... lol Pirate bay is a interesting subject yeah torrents don't host the files therefore they can't really be held responsible for the files, same with demonoid i believe they had some issues before and switched ownership after a few months downtime. They are now hosted in the Ukraine. Quote
Dominion Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 its never that easy and taking down every mccodes game out there will be like taking down 90% of servers will take time and in some cases money Quote
Spudinski Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Well, torrent sites like pirate bay promotes illegal warez - Mostly illegal in some countries. Properly why they are hosting in that country. Quote
Gungneer Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 Edited due to my idiocy. ^_^ JUust a couple questions though, what are the restrictions on a licence? Like, how many domains am I allowed to host the scripts on and stuff? And am I allowed to make a site where I have modded the scripts to allow people to run their own versions of the scripts from a sub domain on my server, and they don't actually get to see any of the source and shit? Quote
CrazyT Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 How is your offshore site Alan... lol The crazyt.co.uk site isn't off shore no, but i do have a offshore server for running a few bots. Quote
CJ - Twitch Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 FFS just use lite. It is so much better. More flexible. Easier to secure and build onto. My copy only has about 1% of mccodes left even changed SQLs. Quote

CJ - Twitch Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I didn't say they can't. I only changed them to help me remember them whilst writing a script. But I just think Lite is a great script. and V2 really limits you to what you can do with it. Most V2 games are Gangster/Mafia. V1 Can be anything. Well so can V2 but will require alot of work. Quote
Jordan Palmer Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Why don't you ask them yourself? Would it not be better if you actually asked them through there support and then maybe they can give you an answer that you understand and what happens ect. Â My ''MCCode'' isn't actually MCCode anymore, So in reality they can't do shit too me, Why don't you do the same... =] Quote

XD And yeah, I am planning on rewritting pretty much everything that way it'd be easier for me to edit it future reference, and for debugging. Quote
ColdBlooded Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Rewriting the source will only help if we charge you by summoning you to court. To get free, you must have re-written 80% of this open-source software in order to claim it yours. 0.0001% under 80% requirement by law, MCCodes win the case. If we win the court case, penalties are severe. If we suspect your game of being MCCode Engine and contact your server for removal due to licensing breech, they will remove your source without checking how much you have re-written. Quote
Renkia Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 @ Jordan - Pudda If I am right about this. Jordan, you "had" MCC, witch, you have to pay the fee, Simple. Plus, since Iv'e been on MWG, I have learnt that you must follow the law/rules. ;) Quote

The only way you'd see if it was MCCodes is the look, the back and the coding isn't anymore, I've had several people who has look at the source who says its actually not a look a like MCCodes (from the code) and I still haven't rewriting things ;) Quote
