To be a bit nice to everyone, I've decided to open registration (no promotion) so it can get a bit of a nice feeling for people before it opens in January. If we can get this developed to a right scale, it will developed very good. Since I wrote the engine (incomplete) in January and I've learnt a lot of stuff since then, I've prosponed the release date until January (I hope). By then, the main features of the game will be implented. It will be using heavy AJAX and live communication (If possible, voice communication server) so that it can be the ultimate experience. Some nice features you should know about: > The engine will be rewrote, so if it sucks now .. It wont after it's been done up. > It will be round based, and financial rewards will be issued to top players. > The economy will be controlled and the funds won't be easy to get hold of, so you won't be in the billions just yet. > The whole site will be relevant, so you won't see mods like "whores" on a racing game (example). > The attacking system will be live and you will be able to play multiplayer through battles, and the attacking(s) will be keyboard controlled so you won't have to be clicking for your enjoyable fights. > It will be responsibly maintained and right people will be hired. You won't see lame staff which are trying to cheat. > The design will stay, as it's very appropriate and appealing. But, I may have a splash page developed because it doesn't make the audience "jump" like I wanted it to. > Yes, I have considered a partner. I have chosen Matt because, he has experience with games and he may know exactly how to manage this game with me, If all goes well he will receive his 20% share of the game. > It will not be based or influenced through MCcode, everything will be great - and you'll see how good MMORPG games can actually be. > A lot of features will be realistic but it will still breach the "14-18 years old type" because they're who we're actually focusing on, but other ages above will be treated the same and we'll do our best to appeal to them. One last thing, It will be without doubt, the best game ever made out of the MCcodes selection. I've already experimented with it all, and yes it is actually humanly possible so you will be seeing it all. I'm just trying to ensure that you don't get too addicted with the site when it releases because then you're parents will go mad! Only downturn is that for best performance, all users will need Mozilla Firefox and Broadband connection of reasonable speed. They both aren't necessary and will work without, but you won't get the "gaming giggle" like we want you to get. Users who signup now, when we release will be bonused with an amazing $20,000 game money (Trust me, that's a lot). Some other things: I'm not looking for Admins, staff, helpers or contributers. If you want to become a BETA tester, we'll give you $5,000 game money for doing so. Sign up at www.criminalcrossfire.com Thanks!

Re: Chavster! Awful name, poorly developed game and low-budget scale. Three factors to ultimate disaster.

Re: FACEBOOK GAME DEVELOPMENT I have developed a small application (clock) in Facebook not long ago, but it's pretty complex to use - since over the past year they've put limits on many things so you would struggle to get an application 100% perfect like MCcodes. What people are now tending to do, is, just make a partial part of the game and then offer them a full flexible version through your website. It gets popular and drives easy traffic to your website, and it won't cost a lot of time or money to develop through Facebook. Best option = Make one from scratch if you want to do it through facebook And no, PayPal does allow it as long as it's legal. It's gonna be some complicated stuff though.

Re: The world mite end on Wednesday 10ths september 2008... When the world ends, It ends. Because, theory isn't going to be a reliable source and the only guarantee we have is just to think 'When we die, we die.' Because, to be honest, We actually never knew how we all came into this world .. 'The Big Bang?' - That's just something to cover everyone's minds up.. that's even why they are doing this experiment. You, as a citizen have a life to live.. Your life will go extremely fast if you think about when the world ends, Newspapers and Critics just write stories about anything just for the money.

Re: New MSN Virus It's pretty simple to know what these are. 1) They have your MSN address in the URL, always. 2) The person's account the message was sent off is normally offline. 3) The URL doesn't look friendly. lol But, it happens.

Re: [showcase] CriminalImpulse.com Released! Good layout, but doesn't look too good with the inside of the game. Could be better. But overall, good. :-P

Re: Javascript + Ajax You would only need this <script> var seconds=3; //How many seconds you want it to refresh it. function runPageFrame_init() { shoutbox.location.reload(); setTimeout(seconds+"000", "runPageFrame_init()"); } runPageFrame_init(); </script>

Re: Playstation 3 I have a Xbox 360 Elite, I think they are way better. Why it's better than PS3 and Wii: - The best online gaming experience in the world. - Microsoft has a better funding so they can offer more features (They are already working on Blu-Ray) - HD Gaming Experience is amazing - I don't really want any better than that. - 8.5% lag of whole 2,500 gaming servers in several datacenters owned by Microsoft (PS3 owns around 1,250 servers in one datacenter in US - Which is why the gaming experience sucks). The further away from a server you are the slower it will take to connect = lag. Xbox 360 may cost - But would you rather pay for a better experience? Yes. Priceless things come with disadvantages. Playstation 3 is mainly based of PSP (or vice-versa) but I only like the Internet Browser feature on the PSP - That's it. Everything else goes to Xbox 360. If you're considering to buy an Xbox 360, buy the Elite version - It might cost more, but it's certainly worth it because of the extra power. It simply owns.

Re: Basic/Moderate PHP You're not argueing, you're just talking. lol. I am quite familiar with the Google Altogrithm and how it works and I know one thing of many, that a large majority of the pages Google picks up does not collect URL's which have ?. Though they still do, but it does really depend on how long your webpage is - Non-Static Pages have higher chances of either not being indexed or having a incompleted URL which is leading a page which lead to a invalid page loading up for many. If you don't use anything relative to $_GET then you're ok but theres more of a chance you would. The URL is also more friendly. What's more rememberal? http://www.yourmyspace.com/profile.php?username=oxi http://www.yourmyspace.com/profile.php/oxi.html It might "just" be a little URL but the easier you make it for your visitors will mean your visitors will have a familiar knowledge on how the URL/URI works - Like Myspace. They use http://www.myspace.com/yournamehere - not http://www.myspace.com/profile.php?name=yournamehere, Simple - because it's rememberal. Whereas Facebook does, which is why they suck at SEO. They can't change it as Google has indexed it all and it will screw up all of the Search Engine traffic - Thanks to Mark Zuckerberg. But they don't care, they're still big - even without Google. Folder based is also compatible but .html seems to be more of a brand on MIME types right now. mod_rewrite just rewrites the URLs, but the fact is everyone doesn't use cPanel therefore they won't have Apache as cPanel/WHM has a built-in compliance with Apache. So you have to make alternatives rather than limiting to what your script has compatibilities with. If you wish to use $_GET with empty values (e.g. /page.php?index) you're better off using isset() as it does the same thing. empty() just shows if the value is empty or not whereas isset() is if the key of the $_GET is valid rather than the value. Many websites do use that technique as it's more popular and does the same thing, the file name would be marked by Google bots as a folder and the .html page would be marked as a static page - therefore indexing the page and not interrupting any errors if you used the question mark and appropriate variables. If you have a better page format you have a better chance of having more indexed page and increasing your chance of a good PageRank, Google can only give you a Valid PageRank if you're actually on Google right? Nyna - For method one, It's definately not stripslashes() - because let's say this for example. Let's say in the $_POST['value'] I posted I'm going to quote "What's your name?" $string_value = $_POST['value']; $string_value = stripslashes($string_value); mysql_query("INSERT INTO comments VALUES ('$string_value');"); that means it would output INSERT INTO comments VALUES ('I'm going to quote "What's your name?"'); which will definately output a MySQL error. Stripslashes is from when you collect the data from the database and then print it to your visitors.

Re: Basic/Moderate PHP Forgot to mention that SEO Links #2 does NOT require Apache or .htaccess :)
-
Heres somethings many of you developers should generally take in mind when developing PHP. 1. Never ever allow a unprotected {$_POST} interfere with your database, It's just the common exploit for MySQL/PHP. Two php functions you should look into to secure your PHP is addslashes() and mysql_real_escape_string(), Well that would personally keep you safe as a starter. 2. SEO links within a PHP file Example: http://www.yourwebsite.com/index.php/Your_Account note You could possibly include .html at the end to make it even more SEO'd :) <?php /* oxi */ $s = $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; $p = explode('/', $s); foreach($p as $str) { if(!eregi('.php', $str)) { $page_name = $str; } } if($page_name == "Your_Account") { print "Hey"; } ?> 3. Having standalone links Example: http://www.yourwebsite.com/index.php?Your_Account <?php if(isset($_GET['Your_Account'])) { print "Hey."; } ?> 4. Setting cookies <?php if($_POST['username']) { setcookie("username", $_POST['username'], time()-60*60*24); } if($_COOKIE['username']) { print "Yay - We grabbed your cookie (No, we didn't rob your house) - ".$_COOKIE['username']; } ?> Misc. htmlentities() - Change html tags into html-incompatible format. e.g. < into > html_entity_decode() - Reverse of the above. mysql_ping() - Notifies you if they is a MySQL connection. mysql_fetch_assoc() - Basically mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC); mysql_pconnect() - Runs a concurrent connection (cannot be stopped .. it's persistent - Not even mysql_close() can stop the connection). Some risky functions: eval() - Allows PHP coding to be executed.

Well for all of you complex programmers one thing you should considering looking at is jQuery. It's actually something pretty good considering what it provides as a module for existing JavaScript. You have to download jQuery and install it to use it, It basically cuts thousands of javascript lines into one. Javascript: document.getElementById('contentText').style.fontsize = "14px"; document.getElementById('contentText.').innerHTML = "You're content is displayed here."; Jquery: $("run").show("contentText"); http://www.jquery.com/ I use jQuery quite a lot so I am recommending you to use it too.
