Selling browser game with over €200k revenue /year
Dave replied to thronegames's topic in Auction House
I do agree, posting the site publicly could completely destroy the games user base. The amount of games who've heard the game is being sold and just leave. -
This and !Angel's engine excite me a lot. I'll release some modules for both once they release to help push them to wider audiences.

I am indeed 19! He's said some slightly questionable things to me over Skype, this community should be about educating and nurtiuring them.

I'd also suggest limiting the size or you're going to make your site struggle to download all the assets. I'd run the image through the following function: http://uk1.php.net/getimagesize Here you could also check the width and height server side before even allowing the user to upload the image.

The large majority of this forum are still kids. Including myself. Let's have some positivity in this thread rather then destroying someones chances of progressing.

Cut the guy some slack. The only way you learn something properly is by doing it! If he's willing to sacrifice his time to attempt to help someone out and most likely progress in doing so let him. Good on you for offering your help services out!

I've always loved the idea of building an awesome 2D RPG styled Pokemon based game. Never had the time or patience to finish any parts of it. Really good luck with the project. I'm excited about what comes out of it.

I have so many old scripts like this lying about. Good fun to write!

I'd write some form of logic to determine whether someone could be cheating. Here's a couple of things I'd check for - You'd presume that bots would run on a loop, so check the chain of pages - A bot is going to randomise it's actions but not by much more then 10 seconds. No one is going to bot slowly? - The tasks that are being botted are going to be of benefit to the user. Build up a list of pages which have benefits and examine this with point 1 - Monitor how long a user is logged in for. However good your game is I highly doubt they're going to play it for 20 hours a day - Depending on how the bots been created check which browser they're using. If they've written a server bot it'll be some form of script rather then IE/Chrome/Firefix If you get this logic right, then I'd run through a procedure of showing a captcha. If the captcha isn't completed within say 2 minutes then you can mark this account as a cheater needed to be reviewed.

Where do you host your web game and how do you keep it fast?
Dave replied to john.'s topic in Game Projects
We run on our large scale eccommerce stores upon it. It's drastically accelerating over the use of Apache. -

Roll DigitalOcean using Nginx, PHP-FPM (through sockets) with a front facing Varnish cache server with ESI blocks for dynamic content with memcache. Now that's some fast stuff. Also I find the Safari timeline displays what's slowing you down a bit better. -
Stop breaking everything! Glad it aids in your laziness!

I'll admit it's a little dated but it still serves it's purpose beautifully! Thank you very much :)

I moved it with the view of sifting through the evidence with some mods and making an informed decision. It's unfair for IBRAMI to have a thread ruining his reputation if it's not completely factual.

Nice freebie! Thanks for giving this to the community. Maybe someone will offer to code it for you?

I'll always be an OO fan! Generally I'm working with some form of ORM so my need for straight up database interactions is small. I'd rather build a good ORM then use procedural functions but I am a PDO lover.

I can verify that Ben Lucraft has a McCodes V2.5 Redux License associated with his McCodes account. Good luck with the sale!

Sounds good to me! Hit me up on Skype.

The idea of collaboration with another developer always excites me! I personally think the text based game market has become over saturated and creating a tool which allows others to create rather similar games. Even with an extensive amount of customizable options I still don't think it's a marketable product. This isn't in the terms of making money from it, but in the terms of people using it! If you're going to pour hours and hours into a project you at least want people to use it and see activity. Good luck anyhow! If you feel like doing something a little more wild and adventurous give me a shout!

Thank you very much for your recommendation!

Ah okay. Great experience and being trustworthy do generally fall in a similar category. So be careful allowing people access to your site. I'd really suggest describing the tasks here so other members can gauge on whether they'd be able to help.

Good stuff! Glad I could help. Hmm weird. I'll send you a PM!

You'll struggle to get an experienced developer to help you with such rewards. If you're wanting quality work I'd highly suggest offering a financial reward. Also would be nice to list the changes you're looking to have completed.

As Sniko has said you should do some more research first! Source: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1356866/how-do-i-change-the-data-type-for-a-column-in-mysql As you can see, the syntax is different from the CREATE syntax. So say we wanted to change money to a bigint I'd suggest reading up on the syntax in some detail on the MySQL site http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/alter-table.html
