bladewolf2010 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I am curious if I need to purchase multiple licenses for my game. It uses a master DB which depending where you decide to go it'll link the master DB with a sub DB for that area. The different Sub DB's are for sub-domains. Would I need a license for each sub domain, or can I use just the one I purchased for the main domain? Quote
URBANZ Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 i think there was a thread about this couple months ago and from that thread i would say yes you need licence per subdomain also unless running from 1 db only have a look at CB's post http://makewebgames.io/showthread.php/41887-Mccodes-Usage-License-Question?p=277495&viewfull=1#post277495 P.S Yes they need to really rethink this as the licence should be per whole domain not just TLD Quote
Uridium Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Blade i asked Dabs this question as i also was a bit condused.. illusions - says Hiya dabs someone is asking a question regards a v2 licence which im also confused about can he use his licence to create sub domains on his main domain using 1 licence ? Dabomstew - says depends what the sub domains are for Dabomstew - says if they're like "server 1", "server 2" etc with completely seperate databases u have to ask us first ------------------------------------ I would consult Dabs further on this Blade send a support ticket with your query Quote
bladewolf2010 Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Alright, I'll send a support ticket thanks for the quick responses. Quote
URBANZ Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 See that's why i don't use McCodes as all licence issues everyone is better off going OpenSource scripts or build your own engine like alot of people Quote
bladewolf2010 Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Meh it's in the works, I have an almost finished game, and a half finished engine. Going to work on the game then finish the engine for a new game. Quote
Djkanna Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 If you have the code on the main; then each subdomain points to the main (with a little trickery to pull from the right db, when on sever2 opposed to sever 1 for example), then you're still within the terms of the license, and they cannot make you pay for more licenses. URBANZ Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 the thing i would try is just using the main domain as the root dir for subdomains then on the main domain detect the current user url to see what server they are on then make a dif style sheet if the user is on a different server to main one then so the same with the db just an idea never tried it but would be pretty easy Quote

URBANZ Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 yes DJK i know u was trying to say that i was just adding extra as he might not know how to do it Quote
W3Theory || Peter Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 (edited) yes DJK i know u was trying to say that i was just adding extra as he might not know how to do it No offense, but what you have added wasn't that clear and was basically a run on sentence. Plus, DJK wasn't 'trying to say that', he did say it. Edited August 23, 2012 by W3Theory || Peter Quote

I understood what DKK was saying, then you said something. That made absolutely no sense to me. :P Sorry, and thanks DJK for that little bit. Quote
rulerofzu Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 He said do this and then do this which points to that make a separate css sheet for this and this if they are here or there. What is difficult to understand :D Quote
Dave Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Basically have server1.game.com server2.game.com server3.game.com All actually route to the domain game.com, then within the game.com script detect which 'site' they're on and then make the various changes to the configuration data/template etc. Quote
newttster Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Or ... since version 1 is now free ... use that. No license agreement to worry about. Quote

rulerofzu Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Well there is; GPL. I like GPL Grab (silent a --- ssssh you aint seen me) Pub Lunch :D But yeah its easy enough to do. DB prefixes would do it. Cant really see MCC being that bothered if you paid for one licence they got lucky! Quote
bladewolf2010 Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 Alright, thanks for the idea's. I'm going to go with the DB prefixes. I waited for McCodes Support area for 2 days, still no reply. I have another ticket in there since 4 August 2012, 9:01pm... Are they on vacation again for awhile? It's like when I bought V1 all over again... I actually buy it then poof, they vanish -.-"" Quote
