Are you serious? I actually paid real money for this =(

Well there goes 3 weeks work -Gutted , I am honestly not going to pay $200 for mccodes, as I will literally be rewriting most of the code base anyway, as was the case with ravan script.

Looks like I'll just have to build the engine myself, that way no one can sting me later on down the track for any reason :p.

Ah well lesson learned, The $15 I am already over, and the time spent working on the project has given me an idea of how such an engine works so Im not entirely out of pocket.

Cheers mate for the heads up.

You do not need to throw away your work! Just do not publically release the game without a valid mccode licence.

Why recode the engine? It's a php text script, it's not like it's some super advanced 3D game code. Why not just write your own so it would actually standout as unique; since most browser games run either GRPG or MCCodes. Plus, it's a great opportunity to learn more.

I actually think its illegal to decode the code as well. But I do remember someone saying there's a way, was either Paul or Crazy, and more likely it was Crazy, its ioncube encoded, and I'm sure there's lets say, 'methods' to getting a decrypter. To me it sounds like your going to recode it, if you do, its your own game. You just need to find the decrypter or a method to decrypt it.

I wouldn't worry too much - there are possibly already 50,000 online anyway.

Besides, neither Raven or McCode have a copyright and furthermore, both claim as their work and neither have proof of creation, which would explain why nobody have been sued, if neither really made it.

If you have the time, make your own - McCode/Raven suck :)

Copyright is given to the maker of anything, and will be held to the maker until 75 years after death

Under a business, copyright has to be applied for. Just like patents.

 

If Mccodes is a "REGISTERED" business then copyright does apply to them. How ever if they are not a "REGISTERED" business then copyright must fall under the legal name of the creator. So basically all those "illegal" games out there really have nothing to worry about. I'm sure if there was something they can do about it they would have..

Interpreted works is granted automatic copyright, unless otherwise stated. True.

But the point I'm making is that the alias(because that's all it is) "MCCodes" can not accept copyright.

If the code was created while MCCodes was already operational AND registered, it would be a different case.

But the sources were developed before MCCodes came into existence. The only way they could possibly transfer the copyright is to apply for it under the alias, or go legal ways to extend the rights thereof.

MCCodes isn't a Partnership, CC, Pty. or operated within a sole proprietor(deprecated, here at least). They have to take legal steps to confirm their existence as a company.

They are engaging in illegal business, because I can surely say they aren't paying tax in any way. Tax avoidance is illegal.

Let's that they there making about 25,000 a year, that's the least I would think they make.

Since 2006, that's 5 years. Trading tax(because they are to small to pay corporate tax), let's say 10% even(it is more, I know): 13,000 x 10/100

That's a minimum that 1,300 a year for tax: about 8,000. To be realistic it's more like 20-50%.

Small things about them don't add up. And even larger things just rises to infinity.

I'd be more than happy to actually file a document with the government of New Zealand and confirm my suspicions, but I'd hate to put everyone here in jeopardy.

PHP is freely used, mccodes is not a register business or it would be on bbb.org, however just because there is no patent on their codes does not mean it is copyrighted, copyright does not necessary need to be done through registration. But the thing is php can't be copyright fully only an idea that is used using php such as layout and coding techniques, one change in an engine by the owner who bought the engine, can own the engine and have the copyright rather it was bought or taken illegally. I learned this through the law office I worked for. And this is the main reason why you do not hear of mccodes suing the millions of games that is using the somewhat remake of their engine, once the coding is change it no longer belongs to mccodes point blank.

Changing a bit of a work done by somebody else will not make it your work. If it was the case you could take windows, change the name (it already change a bit right?) and start to sell it as yours... nope sorry doesn't work.

The fact it is a scripting language or not makes NO DIFFERENCE either. Now about the fact that McCode appears as being a company of some sort change little to nothing about the fact the authors of the script are the owner of that script.

For what McCode owners can do or not, this is a different story. First of all lawyers are far from being cheap, and trying to sue somebody is not always as easy as you may think at first, specially if you need to do it in another country as where you live. Also, suing somebody more or less unknown behind "Ravan" may lead to nothing as normally you sue to get money back... you can't send the other person to jail. Which means if the sued one has no money, then... you will get nothing out of this.

I really wonder why every now and then a subject like that starts on this forum. Ravan is selling illegal software, it's a fact. It's a fact also that CB and Dabs can do little to nothing against it... beside working on a new version and try to avoid to give away to all the new version as well...

ehm yes it does.. if i bought the window first xD then its absolute mine , but not made by me.. unless i change so much on it.. that you wouldnt recognize it.. so your not fully 100% right with that.
