Paul Evans Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 and considering you getting a custom engine you would then need addons coded by the original creator or let someone get familiar with your site (not a good idea if it's custom work not many people are trustworthy enough to not steal a backup). Alot of the members of MWG are familiar with MC (including myself im very very confident i know every single file in MCv2) plus all the free mods maybe a bonus to you but i'd say they don't really effect it, why use free mods when your spending so much on the site i would suggest maybe choosing some free mods but then having someone code them a little different with added on ideas just to make your website a little more unique. Although i am not a big fan of MC and i am creating my own RPG game from scratch i would still say MCC is probably alot easier to use and get support (not from MCC itself but members of MWG) as GRPG is actually even more exploitable than MCC... (amazing i know) horizons GUI is difficult to edit and EZRPG is only in basic stages (last time i looked) also some OS projects like zap are still in preproduction. So MCC is probably your best bet. Like i said earlier message me if you need any help/advice/etc... Quote
Joshua Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 GRPG is a lot more unsecure than McCodes, but the majority of the GRPG bugs are just simple SQL injections. It's really not hard to secure the GRPG at all just tons of files that need to be fixed. All in all, as Paul said, AS MUCH as I hate to say it McC = wins. Quote
Dominion Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I think if you’re going to go mccodes fine but go with lite as was said in chat most mccodes games turn out the same basic game play "train attack join a gang get bored leave" about sums it up with lite you have a chance to put whatever plan you come up with into action well still having all the mods around ready to go on. as was said in chat plan it out on paper before looking into an engine if you buy the engine before you have what you want in your mind your going to end up with the same old game play and people will get bored. if your sure you want to go text based look into ezrpg there is support for it and some nice mods on their site (however limited the amount) mccodes is the main engine for this forums always has been but it’s not the only one out there. I was pointed to gangster legends a day or so ago and I do wish I had looked before its better all round then mccodes and well the mods are not there if you learn the engine and are willing to put time in you could save a nice amount of your money for a template and ads. If you’re not sure you want to go down the texted road I would also advise you to look at neab's game engine (you can found it on this site) very nice and not the same old game play however that will take work to get it into a fully ready game even the $300 copy (saying that so will any engine paid or not) grpg has been said and well if you put work in its a nice engine if you yourself know nothing about php I would not go for it little support and a bad engine. Mccodes, as said so many times in this topic now has the best support from a site and the most mods but zap engine has support there if needed ezrpg I know zeggy put I lot of work into and check out the forums for it it has support and both are easy to learn open source (so if you ever need work done they can download and learn the engine themselves) there are so many engines plan it out and pick the best engine for you after. Some free engines http://makewebgames.io/index.php?page=DownloadDBView&katID=1 neab http://makewebgames.io/board752-neab-game-engine/ ezrpg forums http://www.ezrpgproject.com/forum/ zap engine http://makewebgames.io/board824-mwg-community-project/ p.s – if you pick to go with a free engine your save the silly amounts of money people want you to spend on security and as if you find no one wants to create mods for it (paid or free) theres nothing wrong since you have lost no money yet and you can start something else just as fast that’s also a key reason not to buy hosting until ready to put the game online wamp will do until that point. sniko Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 If you go with your Mccodes ideas, i do modifications for very cheap, $10 - $30. -sniko Quote
Dayo Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 for 2-4k you could get a good mccodes game but it will be like 1000s out there already, if you do use an engine dont use mccodes think about it yea there is free mods but think of how many games use that mod and imagin your the user going from one game to another seeing the same old thing ... that is why i left playing games Quote
Haunted Dawg Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 If your really interested, you may contact me, we can start a partnered business. I currently have 2 domain name's for game's, one which is relativley unique (ConvictsUnleashed) and i also have a template for ConvictsUnleashed (From peter). So as with this offer come's, i can either sell you ConvictsUnleashed.com(.net) domain + template + custom engine to your liking for $1,500. My work is pretty decent, and if this project does come up, it will be my proiority, however with this i would need atleast half paid upfront to insure my work (As i nor you would liked to be scammed). Or, don't pay a cent now, and then let me create the engine for convictsunleashed (to your liking still) and we become partner's, how ever, here's the cache. I am quite tallented with php and rpg's, been in it for 6+ year's. No work is to complex for me, it's like a walk in the park when creating modification's for me. How ever, i have lack of fund's. I can create back end script's so easily. But the design part i suck at. So, with lack of fund's, i couldn't go with SOSFactory as i wanted to for ConvictsUnleashed and ended up going with peter, which actualy turned out pretty good because i still bought a custom Mascot to go with the template. It turned out nice. So as i mention, lack of fund's. I can't really market the game that well. I have worked with doinkinator, i won't say his work is the best as it's far from good, but the advertising skill's are good, and i've learnt from him where to get the member's. So that's another plus if you are wanting to goo partnership that way i can show you where to get member's for cheap price's, and by cheap we not talking $500+ we talking $300-. So we can keep this project cheap on our pocket's and gain more from the site. If interested, PM me. Quote
Uridium Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I dont do Graphics i cant even draw on microsoft paint lol I did make a mod for MCC called Theme Creator but that was just based on CSS layouts....... Quote
BrowserGamesFactory Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 2000-4000USD as budget is low, yet a lot of sharks will try to take that money. The only advice I have is, do your homework before hiring some people. Quote
Sun Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 so how did it go for you? any luck on finding programmers for your game? Quote
susanexpress Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Good luck, I'll answer some of your questions. As a start up fund, $2,000 - $4,000 is a pretty decent budget. Q, Who would be interested in working for me on this project? A, As a paid programmer or a 'partner'? Q, How would I pay you so neither of us get ripped off. A, Hire someone you trust! - search around the forums and do a little research on the person you're hiring. And I wish ya good luck again. =) Quote
a_bertrand Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Before setting up a budget, choosing and engine, or even finding partners, you should first decide what the game should do, what it should look like, what's the story etc. 1000-4000$ seems a lot but it isn't actually all that money if you need to pay a dedicated hosting and make some advertisement. So save your money for the moment and plan carefully what you want as game. Quote
