  1. To be honest, I think it all depends on a persons logic and preference. I rather like PDO and have used SQL, MYSQL, MYSQLi. For my java projects I used JDBC to connect to a MYSQL database. I think it's just preference, there is no one right answer really?
  2. Been using PDO for a while. I love it. But then again, I did create my own MYSQL wrapper when I was using MYSQL...
  3. Can't believe how well it's doing :) Rather great really!
  4. Been using it for a while as well! Really good website :)
  5. GoDaddy. Never had to contact customer support. So can't really comment on that aspect. But they're rather cheap. So yeah. (Y)
  6. You really would. I'm in the process of putting together a new list for mine. Since a lot of them don't, or have now gone offline.

    Fire!

Will take a look when I get home. How long did that take you to do/how long did it take to render?
  8. If I may, I might add it to my to-do list :) In theory it shouldn't present too much of a bother. When I get around to it, if no one has done it. I'll post the modification if you would like?

    Fire!

    Very nice indeed :)
  10. Been trying to think of a way around that, as it is rather a distinctive possibility...A nice feature, but no real way to protect the person who places the bounty >.< On a side note. How easy is it to change the reward bases to be...pretty much ANYTHING? "I'll give you this sword if you kill this person" SECOND side note. Multiple conditions for a reward. Kill X,Y,Z? - - - Updated - - - DON'T KNOW WHY I keep double posting. But it's getting annoying :(
  11. Hum...seems rather bleh to me :) Yeah, but NWE does have some classes. And in the right places, which I like! (Users for a prime example) And in regards to security. I've been unable to do basic injections or flood my own game so far, so kudos! ^_^
  12. That's the problem I am having. Trying to work my head around how pets would affect(effect?) certain situations. The foundation is pretty sound and simple to implement. It's when you try to make them actually do something worth while it gets tricky!     The things I supplied were more specific to what I am looking to achieve from my game. Which is why I said extensible. Which is where your handy hook system does come into play. As it's easy to run a check if the player has x,y,z and should this procedure run. If this is something you are willing to undertake. Simply make a basic template pet system. Which gives the ability to add more interactivity and hooks? If this were to be used in a gangster themed game, the player could use a pet rat to spy, pick pocket or distract. (see how much gold, strength or something a player has, or allow them to flee from combat?) I'm just throwing ideas out there. :) With hooks and run time events. It is rather easy to extend the functionality of an existing system.
  13. So, SoulQuest has been around since...early 2009. It was built from the ground up with aid and bolt ons from myself and scripts I slashed together. Long story short, it was going well until I started college, secured a job and then arrived at University. Now I have found some free time and the will to redevelop it. I was developing my own OOP framework at one stage, but it was taking far too long. And I didn't have the time. Feel free to take a look at what I wacked together on the dev site. So, to speed up the process I brought NWE. Redesigning a few of my games features and the new ones I created in the years well I kept saying to myself "Must develop SoulQuest" to work within the modular/procedural framework. But sufficed to say, it is going well!! Anyway. Happy to welcome any feedback, good or bad (keep it constructive!) http://beta.soulquestrpg.com http://dev.soulquestrpg.com
  14. Primarily due to ascetics (as you said "nicer" URLS) and SEO. No other REAL reason outside of that :)
  15. I was thinking of developing this myself. But you most likely know or have had a lot more experience with this kind of thing. Consider the pets a mini player, or simply an extension of the player. The pets are able to have various specialities depending on the breed or species. From treasure finding, combat or survivability. The pet can level up (up to a max maybe?) Must be fed, entertained and groomed. Depending on the pets specialisation it can aid you in combat or well exploring (find extra treasure or hidden items only applicable to players with that kind of pet) For instance, if the pet was survivability and you lost a battle. The pet could remove x time from the hospital stay? Or save you from hospital all together. Just a few of the notes and scribbles I have jotted down in regards to the idea. :)
  16. Sadly. This is what I have found. I have met a fair amount of people through these kind of forums and games in general. But mainly we discuss ideas, concepts, experiences etc in-between ourselves only. (outside the public forums) In an almost saturated market, it's hard to come up with something niche to attract enough people/players to succeed...
  17. Anyway. To the topic at hand. My wish is for a simple (expandable) pet system. Maybe something similar to what's available on NEAB?
  18. A great mod! :) A little addition I would like to see is the ability to reveal who placed the bounty on you for x amount? (Think of it as a bribe?)
  19. Just wanted to show my appreciation for this! Was on my todo list. And thanks to you, only took five minutes :P
  20. Having a little trouble getting mod_rewrite to work. Has anyone managed to get this working? Or offer any insight into a solution :) ?
  21. Only recently took the plunge from the free dev version to the paid version of NWE. Have only been working on it for about a month. But I am already liking it. @Kyle - I have edited the combat module a fair amount already. Namely to add a fair amount of functionality and change the look. But by no means am I finished with it. I do agree with what Alain's been saying. It's only a basic engine. A foundation on which you can build on. It's not meant to be a one-for-all solution :)
  22. Nice one. Has came in handy :)
