  1. I was thinking a space based game I had planned out a few years ago and never got around to doing. Still have all the original concept stuff for it.
  2. To be honest I didn't even look at the date. It's a shame. I was hoping to start a game up, and get back into the communities I was a member of. So far two of the game based websites are dead. At least for the type of game I was going to open.
  3. I don't have a copy of Sniko's (I deleted everything when I sold my site), but if you're only looking for a better version of the gang system - http://makewebgames.io/showthread.php/35995-Gang-Replacement?p=252129&viewfull=1#post252129
  4. I was going to start a "so what I miss" thread, but yours is still page one so... bump. I take it a missed nothing. :( Most of the older members gone?
  5. I only google'ed (with I'm feeling lucky) "Define game engine" to prove my point, and it's one you just agreed with, people take the first answer they see. I didn't actually suggest it was right, but used it to ask a rhetorical question. My point stands what you see online when reading articles might not be what you are suggesting. As for debates I have never been in a heated one about this either most people don't care enough. My points simple. Most people see a Framework as bare, an engine point towards a specific type of game with a lot more flesh, and I explained a little beyond that. In theory the engine would take less work then a framework to finish a product off. It's from my experience of how people use the terms. You're saying the main difference is you using the applications api, and a framework being extended? I'd be interested in you linking an example of a game engine and game framework.
  6. If you want to know the specific definitions Google software engine, and software framework. Within the context of games the term is disputed because... well it is. Correctly or not the web is full of people that use the term without any difference. If you asked Google what a game engine is you'll find links that call all game engines "software frameworks used for creating games". So does that mean game frameworks (specifically there to create games) don't actually exist or are in fact engines? Knowing what people call things online is important. If for no other reason then to understand what they mean in specific context. Within the gaming community people don't usually differentiate beyond size and functions given when using the terms. Sometimes not even then. An engine and a framework to someone who isn't in just the game community will mean something different.
  7. This is one of those questions either you don't care about or have a strong opinion on. I don't know why that is. I have found the answer you will get depends on the context and the community you're asking. In answer to your question, in general(and my opinion), game engines have more then Frameworks. Maybe one is more suited to a shooter based game, and will push the content that way well another is good for racing games. (An example taken from the article you just shared.) That's not to say that it'll be already made to be that style of game, but the libraries included at the start will be more in line with what you will need. Frameworks just give you the bones. The stuff you need to build regardless of what type of game you want to create. On MakeWebGames an example would be mccodes pushes you towards a crime style game well Ezrpg just gives you the basics such as stats and a few addons. Nothing pushing you towards one type of game.
  8. I doubt you will find anyone with a legal copy of MCcodes v2, and even if you do I don't know how you would verify it. The owners have all but abandoned the project.
  9. With PHP neither MVC or OOP are standards that need to be followed. They are good practice, but it's not C#, and is nowhere near the level of that kind of language in regards to OO. MVC is a valid option, however I would also suggest you give the following thread a look at. It's worth a read - http://makewebgames.io/showthread.php/43178-MVC-or-not-MVC There is nothing wrong with either using PDO or mysqli extensions for the database. The way Mccodes did it was lazy, but I'm not really seeing your point on it being a bad idea in general. Standards are there for a reason, but again, PHP is not a programming language but a scripting one. By all means following rules and use MVC and do everything using OOP but I would ask if your project wouldn't be better off using another language all together. As for your last point about using a Framework for this project, an engine is basically a framework for you to build a game off. Why would someone use one already out there? Building it from scratch (well planned with structure of course) is probably a better option in my opinion.
  10. I'm fairly sure the MCC one is just them checking their own database to see if any account is linked to the site. Nothing being checked externally that way, and they already had the data for an engine that was being used by people already. For the source encryption you need a balance. Lock people out of a key part of the engine that isn’t going to be changed by anyone and/or could only be changed by the original creator. For example with MCC they could have locked the basic energy/will crons, the IPN.php, and all the files that update the engine from the staff panel(no mcc doesn’t actually auto update...but an engine should). If at any time a check comes back as the site doesn’t have a license they would be informed. The fact is with this kind of system you’re mainly trying to discourage either inexperienced/younger developers or lazy people who don’t want to pay for anything. A broken site will soon have them moving on. Anyone experienced will probably be able to crack the encryption no matter what the level is. Unless you’re specifically trying to keep control of everything (like mafia creator for example) encrypting everything isn’t a good plan. It limits legitimate buyers. Good customer service, and a compelling update schedule will have people buying the engine.
  11. Any code samples? Not sure about the whole encryption thing. If it's done well, and your dedicated to support the engine I doubt a small call back to would be much of an issue.
  12. You were waiting for it? Hope it hasn't held back on projects.
  13. The only game I currently play is Clash of Clans... So mobile I guess. :p
  14. I'm not going above $10 for it. On a side note I apologize for my slow reply I am currently busy with work.
  15. If an mccodes staff member can confirm this is transferable (I seem to remember there being a transfer limit on the licenses?) I will give you $10 for it.
  16. Dominion

    Just an idea

One thing I often have running in the background is an automatic check on consistent transfers and key words in mail. For example if someone has two accounts (one feeding the other) it will flag it after 3 transfers of more then 10% of the feeder accounts funds. The mail will be flagged for any key words that suggest rule breaking (swearing etc). This kind of check does require someone with full access to logs to ensure it's been correctly identified and dealt with, but someone would have to do that anyway. Unfortunately finding cheaters in a game is often about time, and even luck in some cases. Have staff members that specificity look for flags, give the ability for other members to report mail and suspicious behaviour of others, and of course ensure that all the systems staff have are fully featured. The default logs in Mccodes for example make it next to impossible to spot most things one membership hits even an ok level of activity.
  17. Why would anyone assume he is asking for anything other then a complete security check? If he understood the problems he would fix them himself (or at least have a reasonable idea of cost already in mind).
  18. HTC one (m7) wasn't (in my opinion) the best phone of last year. It had its strong points, but not what I wanted out a phone. The M8 does fix some issues I had (for example it now has a micro SD card slot), but I would still pick other phones over it. What you want out of a phone is all down to how you use it. Claiming one phone was the best of last year could only work from either your point of view or based on benchmarks (something the HTC doesn't dominate on).
  19. We can't help without more information. Do you have proof you paid for the template and have you contacted Peter to ask if it was one of his? A link to a profile from MWG or maybe a portfolio link so we know who we're talking about. Not helpful in the slightest. If you have nothing nice to say or nothing of value to contribute please don't post. It was in the wrong section. I just moved it.
  20. Assuming you're talking about Mccodes (since you haven't actully said) I would say if you can use v1 it's the best option. I am unsure what the license is, however I see very little in v2 to jusitfy the price jump from free. If you're going to spend $100 I recommend NWE.
  21. Sorry to see you go, but understandable. Hope to see you around now and then. :)
  22. Since this seems so much like a scam I'll lock the thread. If the original poster wants to mail a staff member with any evidence showing they can actully sell the products feels free to do so.
  23. This looks very close to the "Upgraded bank" Cronus relesed a long time ago (sold and later free from cronwerks). Could explain the lack of intrest. http://makewebgames.io/showthread.php/20493-TGM-Upgraded-Bank-TGM
  24. First off he hasn't said he took the template simply that he could because of how you went about a sale. Secondly it's innocent until proven guilty here (and hopefully everywhere) otherwise we get people jumping to conclusions. Don't threaten other members after claiming you know where they live.
