How much work would someone have to put in to make this a game ready to open?
-
I was on tropical terror for a long time. Probably the only MCcodes based game I ever played. Welcome back.
-
You learn one Framework so you can continue using it for other projects. The larger the application the more sense it makes to use them. It keeps you from having to rewrite the same basic things again, and allows others to pick up a project much easier. In truth I wouldn't say it's needed here, but I would recommend learning a framework if you work with PHP enough.
-
Even the name suggested it's just an example...
-
Of course you can. In this case I'd ask why you're including the file on a those pages at all...
-
This can be done without OO within PHP. For example NWE does it this way. I'd still say go OO if it's a full recode, but the biggest advantage is logic/design separation, and (in theory) easier maintenance for when new people pick up the code.
-
It's all or nothing because you have it set-up that way.If you want to limit who can access it use a function, and pass the circumstances you want blocked/allowed. Right now you're just including a file with a bunch of if() statements that block access.
-
Fair enough. When I said it I hadn't realised how badly Grpg uses it. If it's redone it should be done with an OO setup in mind(as you said). :-)

It's because the bars load before the gym page runs it's queries. "header.php" runs its queries first due to the way McCodes is setup. I used to make the tab blink with "energy filled" if they leave a tab open. Remind people to train.

I said this, but as it stands how it's using it is ridiculous. It needs a rework.
-
It's not my code it was a download from Cronwerks. It doesn't look that good. Seems to be escaping number for some reason. On my phone, but when I get to a computer I will take a look if it's not fixed.
-
Not necessarily. I don't really know anything about Grpg so I couldn't comment on the engine, but I've seen people go overboard both ways. If the only thing you do in a class is define a bunch of $vars it's all but pointless. For example I once saw someone set a class up to define the price of travel in mccodes monorail file. If it's something like a character class then it makes sense So I guess the question is what are the arrays/class files used for in Grpg?
-
Is this still a valid offer, and if so can I have a little more information on the site?
-
It's important to add in the missing security checks as the system is old, and I have to admit I have only seen parts of it. I would say Kyle was right on the class system. It probably needs work, but I imagine going OO is better then just dumping everything into arrays. What I would suggest is making sure the database is optimized. People far to often jump straight into the files, and forget a slow database can be just as big of an issue.
-
My bad @KyleMassacre wasn't aware you were Mccodes staff. Together with this site you really have been keeping them going haven't you? :p
-
It's all in globals.php so just include that file, and delete that stuff.
-
You only close one bracket but open 2. One on the if() and one on array_ket_exists()
-
Includes forums, rating, and voting mods. NOTE - These were all made by @Cronus and are all years old. Original copyright is in tact, and the only thing that I have done since original download is moved them from a .rar to a .zip because MWG doesn't like rar files. Cronwerks.zip

It's ok to post the snippit as long as the whole file isn't posted. What errors are getting?
-
I haven't seen an mccodes staff member around in months, I'd suggest not using their website unless you know the seller is still active.

You click the "comment" button by quote, like, reply, edit etc...

There comes a point when you have to test on a live server. Mainly for beta testing, but it can't all be done locally. I understand it's different from developing because, in theory, the site is mostly complete... depending on the stage you're testing out. I tend to get people to test at predetermined stages. The login, register, and main files are done? Dump it on the main server to get people to look at the basic design and give opinions on the project to far. Although I have a server hosting other things so that doesn't cost me anything. Developing/fixing and the like should always been done locally. The only reason to edit a file on a live server is a very quick fix, and doing that on the publicly live site isn't something I would be regularly.

Good to see an example. I guess there is still an audience for this style of games.
-
The only cronwerks mods I seem to have are v1. What mods were you looking for exactly?

I like seeing people willing to give their time to help someone out. :)
