New Layout

you can see the mobster template I have done in the art modeling and media creation section, let me know if you are interested.
2. Sethenor2: I will be selling it if people are interested. Single copy of it and a licence to use on a single site will be around $100, buy out Price will be considerably higher. Sparky: I made the images in my 3d software rendering programs and/ or Photoshop.
3. Ive had to get this idea out of my head and into pixels. Let me know what you think. If there is Interest, Ill offer this template up for sale, at the moment, it is only coded in html/CSS, but If I do Offer it, ill also offer already coded for Mccodes. (No firm ETA on Mccodes coding)
4. Ive seen worse. It does look like your average mccodes game, and it does look thrown together and choppy. Perhaps replacing the black with another dark color that matches the rest of the colors instead of looking like something is missing would tie it all together nicely?
5. The white should tie in a lot better once you get the shades of gray. I like to use rule of 4 in design work I do. I tend to apply this to shades rather than tones. Where you are looking for a dark/ black theme. the rule of 4 would apply in using full black, full white, and 2 tones in between. With Black, this is easy to figure out as you have 4 web safe colors to choose from: White #FFFFFF , Silver #C0C0C0, Gray #808080, and Black #000000. by alternating dark and light you can really find emphasis in your design. BY adding a shade of red corresponding with one of the four colors, you can add some accents to really emphasize certain places. (Corresponding shades of red would be #FF0000 :White, #C00000 to silver, #800000 to gray, and Black only pairs to black)
6. Um cus I posted at about 4am my time after taking a sleeping pill? Try this query that isn't nearly so hard on the DB: $q=$db->query("SELECT ['laston'] FROM users WHERE laston>unix_timestamp()-15*60 ORDER BY laston DESC"); $online=$db->num_rows($q);
7. black on black reminds me of the kid that doesn't want to be seen. I think thats what has happened here as well. Now I think if you were to go with light and dark gray on black with a slightly brighter red that pops (accents) rather than fades together, I think you would have something good. At this point, there is nothing to tie in your white. It just floats on top of the sea of black looking like an after thought.
8. Peter is right, he does great work, I still think he under charges tho ;) of course, he has much more time available than I do, and hence, increased work load.
9. I like it Bert, esp with the improved atmosphere. Just a quick thought, have you tried using hdmi photographs as textures???? you could get a large variety of planets very quickly ... esp with Modo.
10. It totally depends on your budget, however, for a "complete" layout you would need to code layout into almost every page. I have done a few of these, have one in the works atm. But, my graphics are good. contain no copyrighted materials, are completely original, and run ya $1000 to $2000 USD on average. If you only wanted login, register and header, I could start you out around $600.
11. Database query: $q=$db->query("SELECT * FROM users WHERE laston>unix_timestamp()-15*60 ORDER BY laston DESC"); $online=$db->num_rows($q); html: <div class="Whatever style you want to put here from your css">Total Members:<span>$membs</span>Online Now: <span>$online</span>   That should work, and no need to add to the database.
12. You do realise that this comunity mostly develops text based games written in php, and not flash game yeah?
13. Im not going to send out e-mails to over 3000 e-mails telling them that we have redirected the domain, they either get redirected, or they click the we have moved, click HERE link. It allowed us to not have any down time, and all players get the same level of access. If I were a player, I would find this to show professionalism and thoughtfulness on behalf of the game managers. 24 to 48 hours of not being able to access the game would probably make me quit playing cus I would think "Oh, I'm dealing with a bunch of kids who cant even keep the site up, I'm not wasting my time." I dont know about the rest of the community here, but Id like to keep my active players/donators and not loose them to another game, there are a lot to choose from ya know. An no, its not a temporary domain, I want both the .net and the .com to point towards the game.
14. um, yeah I know this, however .... I didn't want the game down for 24 hours while Dns propogated .... I wanted all the SQl data to be up to date.
15. So, when I bought mccodes, I had to provide the domain name where I would be running my game, this was to prevent a cease and desist order, essentially placing me on a "safe list". I have recently changed servers, and didn't want the game down for 24 - 48 hours while we changed servers, so I bought a second domain and redirected my players there while I shut down the old server. I now have 2 domains that are for the same game. I have mygamename.com and mygamename.net and now it has occurred to me that BC my primary domain is the .net and not the .com I provided with my licence, I am technically in violation of the terms of service and running mccodes illegally, despite having paid for a licence and only running one game. So, Do I have to buy an additional licence for the additional domain? Or do I notify mccodes that I have a second domain for the same game and get both domains on that "safe list"
16. About 6 years ago, the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind had a huge thing they were working on much along these lines. There was a big controversy over it as they were using state funding and federal grants to back it up. The then administrator for the school (Angel Ramos) eventually resigned, or was fired, or IDK, he is not there now BC of it. Shortly after/during him leaving, all the programing disappeared from public view. (I know of a guy who still has a copy and has continued to develop the softs tho) This may or may not be something you want to look into as a base for your rpg, but I would highly suggest researching the situation so you are well aware of the precedent that has been set surrounding the development of RPGs as learning tools in a class room. I know there is not much fuss about using them, but developing them can become a highly complicated process and lead to issues of ownership, and becomes an increasingly complicated matter if you even develop one portion of the coding on a school owned computer. Even tho this program was in the early developmental stages and was only being tested last time I was involved with it (Voice actor and sign interpreter on the project) we saw huge improvements with students abilities and progress in English use. More educators should look for unconventional means of educating the students they work with! Gaming is something they do anyway, and educational gaming is just now breaking through to the for front. My children actually have required gaming hours for their classes on sites like study island and apangia. Homework has never been so easy to get my children to do. I wish you the best of luck, and hope to see something like this actually make it, and if you develop this and find success with your students, Don't be afraid to charge the school an annual membership fee for each student, because I doubt they will assist in the cost of development. Teachers have a bad habit of pouring their heart and soul into their students without getting much in return, so at least cover your expenses and leave $ for future developments.
17. I have to agree with deisel here, vector would have been the way to go with this one. and DJK, I challenge you to a kiss rock off, PS3 Rockband online ....pm me for my username on the playstation network!
18. While Daz is a beginner tool for 3d, you can look at modeling your own hair clothing, people, props ect in a program like Modo. this makes your possibilities endless. The advantage I find with 3d is that once you have your basics set up, you can get an infinite number of images from a 3d object that never falters in style or appearance verses the task of having to hand draw over and over having small details change each time you have to redraw the object for a new image. Micky mouse is a great example of these changes. Hand drawn Micky 100 years ago Hand drawn Micky mouse in the 90's 3d Micky from kingdom hearts 2 3d Micky from kingdom hearts 1
19. no worries Ade, I couldnt help much on what you were doing, so I offer what I could. Zu, your method sounds very interesting! But, i dont completely understand what you mean. Could i talk you into a pm with a link and test acount info?
20. ive made them with generators and templates. theres a nice oneHere you might also try searching javascript dropdown menu generators, then editing the provided code to fit your game.
21. For once in my life I was trying to be nice and appropriate .... Tho, I usually say keep it simple shit-head. and just FYI, Kiss was heavy metal/hard rock, not your sock-hop rock of the 50's and 60's rock.
22. haha, I love that you have taken non conventional approach to your items! I can especially relate to overbearing mother as a defense item ..... could that be why I dumped him ASAP ... Where do you get your inspiration?
23. lol DJK, well, you secured it, so I have to say thanks for that as well as the compliment. You should look at the mining one again .... That was the hard one!
24. I created a fishing mod not long ago, its based on my search the streets. While this is part of a much larger crafting mod, it became quite complicated, but is easy to simplify and separate. The file also runs on an image map. This is a nice difference from your run of the mill fishing that only results in cash, it also combines with Danny's crafting mod very nicely (thats what it was built for) <?php include(DIRNAME(__FILE__).'/globals.php'); $cityname = mysql_fetch_assoc(mysql_query("SELECT `cityname` FROM `cities` WHERE (`cityid` = ".$ir['location'].")")); echo '<h2>'.htmlentities($cityname['cityname']).' Lake</h2> Welcome to the Lake. Fishingin '.htmlentities($cityname['cityname']).' takes energy. Every time you fish, you loose diferent ammounts of energy. Which fish would you like to catch? '; $mn = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM `fish` WHERE `Level` < ".$ir['level']." ORDER BY Level ASC"); echo '<table border = "1" cellspacing = "3">'; while($info = mysql_fetch_assoc($mn)) { echo ' <tr> <a href = "'.htmlentities($info['file']).'">Catch '.htmlentities($info['name']).' </a> </tr>'; } echo '</tr></table>'; $h->endpage(); ?> This file pulls the list of different fish and the link to that file from the sql database. To create the DB: [mysql]CREATE TABLE `fish` ( `name` varchar(28) NOT NULL, `file` varchar(28) NOT NULL, `level` int(11) NOT NULL ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; INSERT INTO `fish` VALUES('trout', 'craft/fish/trout.php', 1);[/mysql] feel free to add any other fish types you would like along with level required to access the file, and the name of that file. then edit the following file to create different kinds of fish, difficulty of catching that fish, and any other type variable you want for each fish. Separate files also allow you to easily separate lake fish from river fish from ocean fish that can only be caught in different locations (just add an if statement for location) <?php include('globals.php'); //common stuff //Fish for trout file $q=$db->query("SELECT * FROM Skills WHERE user={$ir['userid']}"); $row = mysql_fetch_assoc($q); $expm= ($row['flevel'] * 500); //checks fishing exp level can be changed to combat level $db->query("UPDATE Skills SET fexpneed= $expm WHERE user={$ir['userid']}"); //updates fishing exp needed based on fishing level if($row['fexp'] >= $row['fexpneed']) { $db->query("UPDATE Skills SET flevel=flevel+1 WHERE user={$ir['userid']}"); } // updates fishing level if($row['flevel'] <=0) { echo "You do not have enough Fishing experience. Come back later."; $h->endpage(); exit;} if($ir['energy'] <= 4) { echo "You do not have enough energy. Come back later."; $h->endpage(); exit; } //checks energy level if($ir['jail'] || $ir['hospital']) { echo "You can't access this page while in the hospital or jail."; $h->endpage(); exit; } //checks hospital $cityname = $db->fetch_single($db->query("SELECT cityname FROM cities WHERE cityid = {$ir['location']}")); if(isset($_GET['search'])) //search { $hard = mt_rand(1,3); // 1:3 chance of hard outcome, change this for each different fish $ore = Trout; //sets what kind of fish is named in the results $oreid = 134; //what item gets inserted into inventory when successful if($hard == 1){ $amt = mt_rand(1,3); item_add($userid, $oreid, $amt); $db->query("UPDATE Skills Set fexp=fexp+1 WHERE user=$userid"); $out = "You collected {$amt} {$ore}."; } else { $out = "There is nothing here."; } $db->query("UPDATE users SET energy = energy- 3 WHERE userid = {$userid}"); //decrement energy ?> <div style="text-align:center"> <?= $out ?> <?= ($ir['energy']-3> 0) ? "<a href=\"?\">Search again?</a>" : "" ?> </div> <?php } else //index { ?> <h2 style="text-align:center;"><?= $cityname ?> Lake</center></h2> <div style="text-align:center;"> Welcome to the Lake, <?= $ir['username'] ?>. 25. Sim, I think the logo is a bit detailed and cluttered. Often, logos / trademarks are used in small sizes, and your detail just wont carry over. KISS keep it simple sally. Logos should be easy to recognize, and easy to place everywhere. I think the ant is cool tho. Maybe making the ant more of the focus of the logo and less "movment" and color variation will give you better results.
