I bought a droplet, set it all up. Installed apache, mysql, and php. I'm now trying to figure out if its possible to put cpanel on. If its not possible, then what can I use to manage files and databases online? Pretty stuck here.

It's possible, yes. However, you'd need to purchase a cPanel license.

There are a lot of alternatives to cPanel. Just to list a few;

 

To manage databases, and I assume you are talking about MySQL (?) I personally like navicat.

To manage files, you could just use WinSCP.

Removing the bloat of cPanel (or any other interface) and working with FTP and remote MySQL connection is a preferred method, in my books, anyway.

phpMyAdmin for database management

vsFTPd for file management (FTP)
