Frosty Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 (edited) Hi, I would like to ask the users who use the mccodes engine to give a honest review of the script. Could you please rate the mccodes engine out of 10 (1 - Very Bad | 10 - Very Good) on the following categories: Ease of Use (Installation and Management) Secure (Does the script have a lot of vulnerabilities) Efficient (How efficient is the script when it comes to using server resources) Customization (Is the script easy to customize - for example adding new features to the game) Support ( If any problems are found with the script how good is the vendor support) Updates (Is the script regularly updated) Any comments/opinions/experience shared regarding the script is appreciated. Like two years?) Honestly, I like it, but... There are better choices out there. Quote

Thanks for the list, I've had a look through it but it seems that those 3 game engines do not have lot of community support/modifications available. Are there any other scripts that have a lot of community support? Quote
rulerofzu Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Seriously? Have you read the list of modifications for NWE? http://www.nw-engine.com/index.php?c=modules Quote
Frosty Posted June 21, 2012 Author Posted June 21, 2012 Seriously? Have you read the list of modifications for NWE? http://www.nw-engine.com/index.php?c=modules From my point of view all those "modifications" should be included with the script, same like mccodes, all their modifications are included with the script and they have extra ones on the forum. The modifications for NWE should be apart of the game automatically, for example the "Add Experience" or "Add Gold" Mod should be there by default as it is an admin function to adjust user Exp or Gold therefore i don't fully count them as Mods but as Part of the Engine. I do understand that mccodes is a out of the box game and that NWE is a Game Engine meant to be customized. Quote
rulerofzu Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 When you purchase the engine all those are provided with the engine. They are also listed individually for if you purchase the developer version. The full engine comes with all 87 modules. Quote

Frosty Posted June 21, 2012 Author Posted June 21, 2012 So the 87 modules are apart of the game, but what i am asking is if there is a community actively developing modules for sale/free. With mccodes there is a forum dedicated to modification and there is over 1500 threads. Ease of Use (Installation and Management) - v1 (4), v2 (4), v2.5 (5) Secure (Does the script have a lot of vulnerabilities) - v1 (1), v2 (4), v2.5 (4) Efficient (How efficient is the script when it comes to using server resources) - v1 (4), v2 (3), v2.5 (3) Customization (Is the script easy to customize - for example adding new features to the game) - v1 (8), v2 (8), v2.5(7) Support ( If any problems are found with the script how good is the vendor support) - v1 (N/A - open source), v2 (4), v2.5(4) [Community here, significantly higher in ratings] Updates (Is the script regularly updated) - v1 (N/A), v2 (2), v2.5(4) Thanks for the review :) Quote
a_bertrand Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Froty: NWE is much newer than McCode, so no there isn't as many mods on NWE (nor on any other engine here). Yet, you should evaluate your needs, and the pro and cons of each engine. What would be useful to you 1000+ mods you will never even try as they don't fit your needs? Also, many of the mods you will find here basically are variations of others so they are not true modifications just improvements of something. Quote
ColdBlooded Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Froty: Get a copy of MCCode FREE engine, installer.php it up on a server and play around with the codes. Acquire few freebie modules from this forums or http://mccodes.com/mwg_freemods.php (all the same). I advice you that you should try installing V2 modules into the MCCode FREE engine (which is v1.1) and get familiar with web applications development. This will require you to convert v2 modules to v1. Tutorials are out there, learning materials are endless. So much resources available already, why not harvest it? Your game will not be successful if you don't develop / introduce interesting and addictive features for players to play. It can be the most simplest thing of all, (click button, get a randomly generated reward). Point being, there is so many examples of various little things which will aid your development and expand your knowledge. Other engines out there has a minimal offering of this. However, if you or your team are going to invest some serious time into developing a game, I do recommend you use the NWE engine as a platform. In the long run, the benefit will outweigh all the costs and hard work invested. Even Rome can be built over night using the modular framework in that engine. Quote
