Galahad Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I'm developing a game and i want to try and make the users to stay and play the game rather than have a quick look then leave. What do you look for in a game for it to be playable and enjoyable? I look for a balanced leveling system that makes leveling not hard but not easy. Quote
Djkanna Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Stable. So that when you join, you don't have people with ridiculous stats/money/etc that you cannot compete with. Quote
Maniak Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I found one game, I looked in the "Hall of Fame"; and there were people at Level 1400.. I was like WTF?! then left :D So yeah, make the levels not too hard, but not too easy to gain.. Quote
Dominion Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Depends what kind of game... I mean text based e.g. mcc, then yes levels, no high money, no high stats. If it's something like a turn based game... then I would want people around my level (going on war based here) so I can attack, and expand, but people higher to avoid power mongers: so high people attacking everyone for fun, and taking everything preventing people growing. So depends what area you're going for. Balance is important in any game. Just make sure it's playable by new members, but does not get boring for higher/older players. Quote
H4x0r666 Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 1# Stable 2# When the game never resets then opening more servers so when you came a little to late and everybody is level 50 - 100 etc than you can play in or wait for the new servers.. 3# an Chatbox with admins that Actually Do Talk Back-.- i hate when games got an chatbox to ask questions etc.. and then like never answer anything^^ 4# Just gimme the feeling that i could be strong and that i will soon be the master of the game w00t :P okay lol :P i played much games^^ give the players an good but not too long FAQ.. if its too long i wouldnt even try to look at it ;) than mostly see it when you ask the question somewhere lol.. ehm good luck mate  Mvg, H4x0r666 Quote
Dayo Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I like a game where i can adapt to it easily and i like to think i get somewhere quite fast weather that be levels/money/points etc... H4x0r666 by FAQ do you mean a full tutorial the user goes throgh or just a simple View FAQ in the navigation somewhere im deciding what one to use for my game (The Merceary) as 90% of players would get lost in the game quite fast as its not gona be your average text based game :whistling: Quote
Choisir Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Browser games are said to be very high bounce rate. Having a nice retention is really hard. I think one of the most neglected aspects for it is sensible UI. Even some micromanagement lovers may be frustrated at the horrible UI not conforming to their senses. Quote
Jeff Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Some way to help new players work out the basics - and for the game to not be over complex. A sense of competition and community are also very important for me as a player, not always the easiest thing from a developers point of view though. Quote
newttster Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 1) A stable economy 2) Easily understood Help Tutorial 3) No surprises IE: getting to a certain level and finding out afterwards that you can't do certain things anymore. 4) Admin that actually respond to questions. 5) Admin that consider player input for new ideas. 6) New features being added 7) A system that allows non-donators the ability to do the same as donators, albeit with more work. 8) Moderating staff that are not biased. lucky3809 Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 depending on what type of game it is, and the look of it... Missions keeps me playing lol... something that never ends or gets boring, less chance for someone to gain level, money, and what not... a game should not be easy, and fast to finish, it should take time, and effort, also good staff, and customer service, is a plus...updates once a month or 5 times a month is good. I know players leave if there is no updates to the game, so gotta keep it alive and add new stuff to it at all times... A dedicated developer will ALWAYS have players, when you don't possess such skill your players will know, and leave just as fast as they signed up... Also the game needs to be one of a kind, can't be a copy of another one online, must have it's own touch lol.... Quote

I am ok with some but a not easy to play game usually leads to a selective player base. And then common dilemma of game owner gets into the scene. Intensive Hardcore players vs Extensive common/noob.
