BrowserGamesFactory Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Nah not a fight, just alain and myself playing with same object files So both of us render the same 3D object file and see what the result is. Next one a P90 Alain is clearly the winner with his render techniques :) The difference in time is also significant, while my render costs me aprox a minute or 2, it costs alain 20 minutes. Quote
a_bertrand Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 And I would need to spend yet a lot more time to do true good renders. It shows: - Object models are not all, you need lights, textures and render settings / render softwares to get good images - Rendering is as any thing else, it takes a long long time to learn... and you continuesly improve yourself. - At the end you always get what you pay for: no time => not good. BrowserGamesFactory Posted November 19, 2010 Author Posted November 19, 2010 - At the end you always get what you pay for: no time => not good. True, hence hiring a modeller/3D Artist is close to $300/h. Anyway, For those interested, We can provide both weapon object files. Only request is that you will ad your render of same object to this topic without a watermark. Note: This type of 'Friendly Fights' will also be part of the BrowserGamesFactory Community boards. Where BGF will provide the objects to their members. Quote
BrowserGamesFactory Posted November 20, 2010 Author Posted November 20, 2010 Zeggy, Equinox , Paddy and Djkanna will give it also a shot These are renders by Zeggy Djkanna , seems to curse himself for jumping on it to give it a shot and is wondering what exactly he is doing Quote
Djkanna Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 I really do have no clue how to do these I'm really just following lines in Blender that's all. Wish me luck please! Quote
Equinox Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 My attempt has turned into an exploding sphere animation...As I have no clue how to save the animation, I took a screenshot XD Yay! XD Quote
Lilith Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Hey, I want in ... I love 3d, send the file you want me to render in a .obj format and Ill give it a go! Equinox: I feel your pain buddy, I sooooooo have been there done that! So much for that image right? Quote
Lilith Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 This cross program .obj file thingy kinda sucks! but, there is what I have so far ..... took over 1:20 min to render ...... WTF over? I hope I dont have an issue with my gfx card :$ Quote
BrowserGamesFactory Posted November 20, 2010 Author Posted November 20, 2010 looks good lilith but 1h20 is way overboard Quote
Nickson Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 that is indeed a lot :o but I have to say, it took very long, but it's the best result I have seen at this point :D Quote
Lilith Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 I should never take that long! It never has, there is something wrong with my putter. Quote
BrowserGamesFactory Posted November 21, 2010 Author Posted November 21, 2010 Honestly I' impressed, different people - different renders, yet same object. It does show creativity and that a object isn't really as generic as it looks like. Quote
Lilith Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Goes to show the use of 3d in text based games has an entire variety of applications. Quote
a_bertrand Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Here goes yet another render: BTW it seems we have different 3D models for this gun... would be good to have only one  And the grain on the rendering is wished as I tried to render a bit a texture on it which is grainy... not 100 smooth. Quote
Dave Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Just out of interest because 3D is something I may explore at a later date, what programs/tools are you using for the textures, lighting and so on? Quote
a_bertrand Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I use Lightwave 3D for modeling, rendering for textures either I use lightwave or darksim darktree. Quote
BrowserGamesFactory Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 You could start with http://www.blender.org There are 100s of vid tutorials available for blender. An example of what is possible in blender. Quote
Maniak Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 If you have a sum of money to play with, I would suggest Autodesk 3D Max! I used it in college and it is 1 hell of a program! Looks confusing as hell, but I made quite a good Mayan themed City Scape with it (: Quote
BrowserGamesFactory Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 Or big brother Autodesk Maya, $3500 however student licenses are like 30% of the officiall retail value for autodesk products. Quote
Jordan Palmer Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I've been looking around I found CGDigest, They offer some great free work along with great tutorials ;) Quote
Lilith Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I use a variety of programs, however I find that Daz3d is the simplest to start off with and see success. The User Interface is friendly, and there are a lot of options avalible for Dressing up existing 3d models". Good thing its a free program, BC you soon outgrow it. I got Autodesk about 3 days ago .... seems cool, but I'm on a steep learning curve. Will be able to tell you more about it later. Quote
