Mccodes Lite - Recoded

Hi,

Well since the community engine mainly run of the Mccodes engine(I think something should be done about others), I am going to re-lease a free re-coded version of Mccodes Lite.

Why?:

As seen on (TOPRPGAMES & MMORPG Gaming Site), Mccodes V2 is used alot of them are illegal. So I was thinking, if I did a big re-code on Mccodes Lite(witch is free). And do around 150 files, it could stop some people breaking the law, and help Mccodes not going scavenging hunting for noobs. Around 12% of the files will be free modifications up here, done up. Obviously I will PM the creator asking for permission. You can only download the file via MWG(Registered). So I't will get more members on the forum.

So what will be updated:

• Free & Better default layout
  
• Increased Performance
  
• Selecting what's needed
  
• Security (Will get help with that - If you would to help please PM me)
  
• Similar (include('globals.php')) instead of couple of lines of code
  
• Clean Coding
  
• Instruction's on what and this does (Separate file)
  

But before I go on and re-code Mccodes Lite. I need people opinions on if I should progress or not, maybe your thoughts :P

I am doing something like this aswell.

And imho you should do what you want not the community, i learned alot when recoding the lite version but then i didnt have the time to complete it. if you think you can do it and have the time go ahead show the community what you can do plus it is bound to help alot of people out there.

I won't probably been Re-coding it everyday for a couple of hours. Around 1-3 hours a day should do that trick, and around my area is boring. It would be good to show the community my skills, but I want to know what they think of the idea. I'm only aware of Mccodes, and not so much of it, so it would probably be better to get members thoughts and opinions.

I think if you were going to go to that extreme, why not just make your own unique engine and release it?

I think we've all had this idea and it never pans out because well usually you wanna go bigger with it, but the requirement is it still needs to be compatible with all free and paid lite/v1 mods available.

I voted no, This would prevent many people from earning money. Myself for example, I paid for a secure version of mccodes lite. The creators of McCodes would also lose out if you made this basic engine just as good of even better than McCodes v2.

But then surley if this is taking money off dabs and cb they will be more eiger to get and relese V3 as i know myself i want to buy a V3 licence but there is no chance in hell i would pay $5 for mccodes v2 let alone 100/300 (depending on when you paid)

I think you paying for the security is abit ta-key, but you won't be loosing money. Reason: The engine will be exactly the same as the others for those whoever download it. The owners job is to make it enjoyable, and good prices to earn money. Sorry, but I have to Disagree on the money part. Mccodes V2: Haven't they lost alot of money already? You also, thank you for your thoughts.

I'll wait till (September 9th || 18:00) to see how many people vote for what, and make my mind up.

I voted in favor, and it's rather easy to say why.

If there is a good solid base (being lite) that is compatible with both versions 1 & 2 (which is rather easy), then MCC needs to step it up somehow as all people will use the free version of MCC that probably might be more extended and of better quality. However be of note that mcc lite is gpl, so any derived works are too. Even if none of the MCC "engines" are much of an engine, the mcc engine does not make or break a game, what the owner adds to it does ;) so don't be scared.

I can understand that some people do not want to see this happening because they bought a paid version of MCC, that should have been more then lite. However community engines always get developed at a slower rate, but are as good, if not better as commercial supported products. However, the building organisation of the commercial product needs to stay on top of it to stay a head and keep their market share. A good example of this would be linux vs windows.

Honestly, everyone will get better from such thing. New users can start of a good base and don't have to pay .. no doubt they'll like it. Users with a current license can just keep doing what they want, or switch from base and keep their other extensions, that is if they don't have to change too much though. And MCC will get a large market share (even if it is with their free engine), more happy clients, ... and this could result in a great userbase for them if they handle it correctly. Heck, if they have a real good system, a lot of people might want to upgrade and earn them money that way.

If I didn't say it above, yes I agree, it's kind of a petty for people who have bought MCCodes. I don't actually mean to make people waste there money, but people who don't have money, and extend to breaking the law(by not paying the fee), I can stop a good amount of percentage with this free engine.

It could be an idea, but from Copyright and etc.. Going through the law, I couldn't cope with it. :)

The people who bought MCC might want to protect their investment by saying no to you, but instead they should hint at official MCC to get more value out of their money. There is nothing wrong with what you want to achieve. And still, larger userbase means more chance on good mods, which means more choice for all mcc users. So eventually, everyone can get some benefit from this.. they just need to grab the opportunity.

Thing about a lite recode and I don’t know if anyone else who has given it a shot has found this but if you change everything that makes lite a copy of mccodes its appeal (100s of mods ready to go on) is lost for example the “$ir” that bugs so many people needs to stay so it’s easy for the people who have only ever used mccodes.

If you do recode lite do not do it based on this poll – why? Let’s face it the poll is going to be a joke people who do not want you to recode it will be the people who get paid to “secure” mccodes as it is or have put work into their own site well a lite recode is a good idea it will add to the mafia games out there and that will hurt some people.

Things to consider if you do recode it

- Keeping $ir and anything like it

You may think it should not be there anyway but at the end of the day it is in every free mod so taking it out would mean more work for the noobs this is aimed at.

- Making it noob proof

Abuse functions and variables this will make it easy to learn for most people have a database class put in (would not be hard to copy v2’s names) and put the lite/v1 header stuff into a file called globals as you have already said above

- Keeping it to an engine

You said that you may add some free mods? Don’t do everything for them the best thing about the lite copy of mccodes is its basic (and free) so keep it that way make the people who will use it work a solid base with 100s of free mods how much easier do they want it ?

 

Well I am not going to ramble on with stuff like this since i am sure by now you get the point recode if you want to but do not overdo it making a game and giving it out is not the same thing.

If i was you, i would just build a solid base for MCCode Lite, so users can work from that, and learn a different way of coding.

Why only a solid base, i guess your going to as? So users here & new users can work from that solid base you have made, and learn a different way of doing stuff. Not the old way of doing stuff in MCC. Then they can import stuff over from LITE/V1/V2, to fit that new solid base and work from there.

Do it, even better create a small team of MWG members to do it, I'm sure people would love to jump on board and help out, if it's going to have the possiblity of bringing new life to the forum,

as even if no one admits we're all sick of the "How do we do ....?" posts we need less questions more contribution towards the forum (even if those said posts are contribution we're sick of them or maybe it's just me.)
