Would be nice, BM :)

Hey, so World 53 just started and thought I'd like to share it with you. I've been playing TribalWars for about three years now, and I remember a time when there was actually a tribe called CEG where people from this forum played together. Was real fun. So I'm just asking some of you, who are playing World 53 or you could join. :) TribalWars (refferal) TribalWars (no ref)

I have this problem too from time to time, normally in the afternoons. 14h00 to 17h00 CAT(GMT+2), any time between that I normally get a delayed response. It's not everyday, and not at the same time always - so I do not think it is backups DBS. Most likely - as you have a dedicated server - is that an application is failing or mis-configured and pulling resources. Another thing could be that something is pulling on the network(like a_b said), you will need to check for that with your logs. I'd say you check all the logs, and the application logs. One last thing that could be, even though it is vague: but I'm mentioning it because of the "audience" the site has, is a potential DoS. A single kid whom is sending requests to the server, not strong enough to kill it but strong enough to slow it down. I'd suspect a few kiddies that would actually do that.

Differences between PHP and C# / ASP.NET
Spudinski replied to a_bertrand's topic in Other Programming
Sorry to say this, but you are basically bashing out on PHP. They are even remotely in the same league. PHP is an interpretive language, and will not be able to do all the things C# can. Let me just also give PHP some credit here.... PHP can run on ANY platform, C# can natively ONLY RUN ON WINDOWS driven platforms. PHP can actually run background tasks, it just needs a clever programmer to do it. And besides, PHP was NOT designed for those sort of tasks. PHP is SIMPLER to learn and use than C# will ever be. I'm not trying to be rude, but you really cannot compare these two languages. It's like comparing RPG to Javascript, or apples to tomato sauce. Linux is the popular variant on web servers, and thus why people like PHP so much. It's like C/Perl is the language for Linux. Just as is C# for Windows. -
Just for reference purposes, HTML is a language - Hypertext Markup Language in all. I would suggest you try W3Schools to start learning HTML, and then try a few examples on your own. After that, I'd be sure to check out some CSS tutorials. If designing isn't for you, diving into PHP is your best option(again, look at W3Schools). Spud.

a_bert is right, IE messes around with certain things. Try defining an absolute width for the table. Also, you might want to look further on, it might be that IE is using a previous defined alignment. Oh and PS., margin has nothing to do text alignment. It's a positioning instruction for elements.

Well, there are those aspects of this to take into consideration: database and files. The database structure is much the same for lite and V2, but with the addition of some new tables and columns in some tables. You might want to keep your current database and edit it to fit a V2 structure. Then there is the file aspect, there will definitely e changes in the files, and it might overwrite some of your modifications. You could also edit each file independently. What I personally would suggest, is look at what you want from V2 and implement it into lite. This will require some time, but we all on this forum are able to help you if you run into a problem.

If you want to make a real responsive page, you would need to involve some kind of Ajax implementation. If you are familiar with Ajax, it should be quite easy. If not - well, just leave it as it is now because it will be much simpler. TIP: If you are using MCC v2, look at the ajax handler script(don't know what it's called) that the register page uses. Also look into the register script itself to find out how it works. Ultimately you would have to use a timer as well, to refresh the time value at every X interval.

I'm not going to lie, yes it could be done - to write an piece of code that will prevent certain mysql queries(using an pattern based search). I would rather just suggest setting the correct permissions for your mysql user and the database it is connecting to. Other than that, just make sure your own queries you pass to the database is solid and not able to flex via some sort of script malfunction(aka. a bug or loophole).

Well, I was going to do something like this. But then "things changed". I'd be willing to release this as a free mod... And I actually want to. Just one thing though: What features should it have? Any ideas guys?

One has to remember, PHP is only there to process the set of instructions that you have defined. Efficiency is great when you nail it, but to some extent you can't cut to much code. I'd agree with Floyd, the time taken for the page to actually reach the user is most important. I wouldn't worry about too much efficiency until you test out the full product in a production state.

My MWG Portfolio [Layouts] & [Free Graphic/Layout Downloads]

I wonder if you know the meaning behind Lorem impsum, other than the obvious place holder. -
They are around.

No one has ever lied about how secure MCCodes is, or isn't and I he is doing it voluntary(meaning it was his choice) so the least he can do is show some respect towards MCCodes.
-
This is not a rant about how good "you" are - and this counts for most of you -, it really doesn't matter how insecure or vulnerable you make your programs/applications. It's about your "actual" understanding of what secures your script in the first darn place. Security isn't just "filtering" your input variables(even though most of you do that wrong as well), it's understanding the combination of the OS, applications and scripts(in this case the tiny PHP ones) work together to produce that simple thing you call a web page. With that said, don't say you know what exploitable "is", if you just think your beginning to even grasp the concept. Also, I am in no way a security expert, nor even a PHP expert - but I've seen people who are, and most of the times they don't sit and b!tch about how exploitable something is they rather stand up and do something about it. CrimGame: I mean this in no offense, but it's not a beauty prize how much vulnerabilities you have found. Rather focus on your game, which I know will be much better - security wise - and it will make for other people's happiness. Jordan: I told you this once in PM, I can't believe my eyes that you are trying to insult MCCodes. You may have your opinion, but keep it out of context of this forum. You don't go to your boss and tell him the coffee makes makes bad coffee and trow the cup in his face, so don't sit and complain about MCCodes - do something to better it in the way you think it is not.
-
Before anyone comes to a conclusion of how secure MCCodes really is, mind showing some sort of "proof" on your so-called "security" expertise? I'm not trying to be nasty, but most people here just flame at every occasion they can. It really frightens me that people can call themselves "security experts" while they don't even understand the underlaying concepts of their "expert security" language that is PHP or similar. Granted, there are people on here who actually "know" what they are saying; and that's a pretty good thing. But for the people who "think" they know it all, shu-up. /note: Not being nasty, but see it from my point of view.

You will have to either have the permission of the original creators, or the owners of the place you found it to even move it. You will in addition, have to make a direct reference to the author. This idea isn't new, and take my word for it - either gets you in trouble with the authors, or it just gets you nowhere at all. But... Good luck in your efforts.

Eww... Worms have invaded us! RUN! (being funny) On a more serious note: Welcome ManWorm!

I am online, you just don't have sufficient privileges to see that. And stop saying I should, I find it very annoying. Setting my preferences won't benefit anyone, and I were online when I posted that... So whatcha going to do?

@Danny: Posting things like that is pointless without an explanation. Also, use proper grammar: can not = can't not cant. to should be do. Ben-Nasha: It depends on the quality you want. If you are aiming for something simple you could always rip one of a free templates website, or hire a cheap "template maker". if you are wiling to invest some capital into your game you would want to focus more on quality. You could use a paid template, or hire some web design firm to create a custom template for you.

Logic before questions please; His host it "BYETHOST" or an affiliate of them. Their session times does not have a problem, many people run MCCodes on their systems. I would rather think that it may be a cause of a malfunctioning script, or otherwise an actual player.
-
Change your passwords to more difficult ones, and if the problem still persists check your logs. Though your access log might not give allot on who and what is causing this, you might want to also check your mysql error log. An attacker first sees if they can produce the script to error out, or change in display: if so, they continue and if not - they let it be. Any unusual query errors should immediately raise a red flag.
-
Make your website according to the correct standards.

The receiver is a file, that requests are sent to. It can be in any programming language, I just prefer PHP. The script will have a few areas in which the ajax request(client) will tell the script what to do, make the move or wait to see what the other user does.
-
It's simple to make. All you need a receiver that handles the actual requests. The Ajax is pretty simple.
