🕵️♂️ Mafiastreets – A 1930s Crime RPG (In Development)

I’m currently working on Mafiastreets, a browser-based mafia game set in the gritty streets of the 1930s, inspired by the golden age of organized crime in Chicago and New York.

The game is built on the MCCodes source and is still in development, so it’s not ready to play yet.
But you can already join the Discord to follow progress — I’ll be posting updates, screenshots, and development news there regularly.

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working hard behind the scenes this weekend and pushed a lot of new updates into MafiaStreets.
The full list is posted on our Discord, so make sure to check it out — there’s a detailed breakdown of everything that changed, including the new voting system, stock market, and medals update.

Discord is where I post updates first, so if you want to stay up-to-date or give feedback, definitely take a look.

👀 Looking for Testers

I’m also searching for a few active players who want to help test new features before they go live.
If you're interested in early access, helping shape the game, and catching bugs, let me know on Discord.

Thanks for supporting MafiaStreets — more updates are coming!
Stay dangerous. 🔫😎

Remarkable that these games still make their way into the wild these days.

The login/signup is poorly thought out - no autofocus on either the login or registration form forcing a click. The forms take up considerable space on the screen forcing a scroll - on essentially the very first page you see. Once registered you are met with an error - okay, not a real error, but something that states its an error. Email verification I fully accept, but the so-called error ? Seems a bit off.

Get into the game, look around. Seems we have to scroll on every page (assuming a 1920x1080 browser window). Not the best of UIs for a game.

Looking at the game, it's a an mccodes build, so no surprises there, and yes, that's fine ... to an extent, but lets have a quick look at crimes - always a fun start to a game. Attempting the very first and in theory simplest crime results in jail for 13 minutes. So, the very first action of the game, leaves it unplayable for 13 minutes.

Is this acceptable, not really. Having a look around there's not that much you can during this spell so sadly, so it's a long boring wait where even trying to read the newspaper is tricky due to the colors.

13 minutes later, so maybe a life a life of crime is not ideal, lets look for a a job - bugger, no jobs available. It's like the game is saying "okay, please come and play, just be aware we won't let you do anything" Okay, lets try the gym - hmm, looks like you can train 3 stats, okay, I can live with that,so lets pull all our effort into 1 skill - and train. Huh, looks like I gained some strength, without using any energy. Excellent, oh .. click train again, and no I have a really daft captcha to fill in, and NOW my energy has dropped like 3rd period french. That'll be the old mccodes problem of page lag where actions are not reflected in the stat bars as those are loaded before your action is handle (a very basic problem and so easy to work-around).

Do you want me to play this game ? I'm rapidly guessing the answer is a solid no here which is a little sad.

So lets try to see if we can money by saving a little. Seems it costs money to open a bank account, not sure why, after all unless you are Coutts, most banks welcome the cash. Even worse, you get charged to deposit money, so my $100 starting funds has dwindled to $72 Thankfully, the bank generates what appears to be a butt-load of interest every day so that's good - I hope they've used unsigned bigints for the bankmoney field in the database 😉

So "Testing went great", erm, not sure I agree with that - there's unit tests, feature tests, acceptance tests and usability tests - I suspect being mccodes, the first three don't exist and by the feel of it it usability testing was a case of "does it work on my machine" before pushing out.

Confused by this "happy" value - I trained a little - and now I'm sad? Well okay, its a game I s'pose. Maybe it's connected to the house I live in. Ah, nope that seems to be something called Will whatever that is.

All due credit for getting something released, but for heavens sake, actually play it first. If this was somebody else's project - would you continue?

TBH, I can't remember the exact error, something about authentication error. Obviously the system is simply waiting until you validate your email, but nevertheless, stating it's an error seems a bit off.

Jobs -- Yes, there is indeed a link to the jobs, however as you start out, you cannot apply as all are locked - Again, and I accept this from a new player's standpoint, every position will have requirements, but would it not be better to hide the link and page until such time as you meet any of the job's requirements.

I tried to register but got an error and never received the verification email, so I couldn’t complete the process and login.

You found an unmarked briefcase with $0.

One is sorely tempted to jump for joy, pay off the mortgage and the kids education, buy a decent sports car and move to the South of France - Sadly this briefcase seems to rather suggest I hold off on that for a little longer.

Oh and I love the fact that you can work in a job, multiple times and get thrown in jail .. if you are really lucky, you can get thrown in jail for less time than you have remaining... I'm beginning to like this game - more bugs than you can shake a stick at
