How do you plan to create a recurring billing ? I mean you want to use the paypal recurring billing? Well I must admit I never did it and honestly I don't think it's a good idea. Much better to have some sort of premium membership where you have to pay each month or so to keep it, and this membership offers some advantages.

not the best idea for the player but great for the game owner ;) It's kind of like that magazine subscription you got duped into signing up for but keep forgetting to cancel it haha

Exactly why as player I would not do it, and many would think the same.

You know I cant argue with thats as a player of a game, i have never done it nor will i. But for the hardcore gamers out there it is a nice luxury to have if they are willing to foot the bill every now and then.

Either way you look at it, it has its ups and downs

One way of making people go for the recurring monthly membership would to give it some extra benefits than the regular monthly membership. I see games do this and players buy into it and use it all the time. I don't think it's a terrible idea, it's just a different style of business practice. I would say it doesn't hurt to add it.

I see it as trickery when that is done. Some does it sure, I personally don't like that practice.

Funny story, I bought a subscription for a software, 100$ (might been 150 )something a month, I stopped using it, and forgot about it. This new year I went thorough my papyal transactions, it has been deducting that amount for 2 years. This story tells more about my money management skills than anything else, funny though :)

would not been that funny had the software still not made my money back over the years even though I did not use it.
