I personally dislike email advertising. I have never joined a site because of an email. It really gives me a bad view of that site, good or service.

If every email account holder hasn't subscribed to that mailing list then you could breach many laws, I had this discussion with Dabs the other day. I wasn't aware either

Mailing lists are legal if the list is opt-in. If nobody validated/confirmed their email for the mailing list, then it is spam.
