  1. Loving the "as bad as they used to" bit ... all sites need some of that I'm thinking. 😂
  2. Quite right @Sim ... I have no desire for any further discourse with the other party. 🙂 Nowww, when will this scraper be ready?? Ummm, by the way @Sim, your diplomatic handling of what could be a potentially volatile situation certainly adds substance to your application to be a moderator here, you get my vote. 🙂
  3. It appears from your above comments, that like your initial comments your simply wishing to be a tad combative and adopt an opposing posture just because you can. As for your "normally proved wrong" remark you should be aware, while I am not always right, I am NEVER wrong. 🙂 To use the phrase "it goes without saying" is most certainly NOT an assumption but rather its a 'gimme' locked in stone, your interpretation of my comments appears to be somewhat lacking and your reference to me replying like a "politician" is also relegated to the scrap heap given a politician says plenty but nothing at the same time. My comments are very specific and are directly related and composed relative to your own initial diatribe. In fact, I don't believe I have made any assumptions anywhere, except perhaps to assume you may be a democrat. 😂 Forgive the political jibe, its not something I generally espouse on a forum such as this however you did open the door. Sorry about hijacking your thread @Sim but I'm still in the market for your traffic scraper if you decide to build one.
  4. It should go without saying, that generating traffic is always going to be about the targeted kind given the points you raise are Webmaster 101. In terms of someone clicking the X or the bounce rate, every site experiences that and while an optimal bounce rate would be in the 25% to 40% range this still means considerable surfers are indeed clicking the X prematurely even on a site with those admirable statistics. 200,000 accounts are not going to be generated if someone who has no interest in games wanders by a gaming site, they will click the X on the landing page having realised its not for them without ever going to the trouble of registering an account, but I'm thinking if we did generate 200,000 accounts and if even 1% of those individuals were active, (which is 2000) then I would cop that any day without believing such a site was 'absolutely trash'. I have used Facebook Ads many times with good results and by definition claim that it not expensive, although someone else's idea of what that means may differ to mine. Having said that, paid advertising via differing mediums is the go to for the majority of business's online and off, huge budgets are allocated and provided there are returns on investment (spend $1000 and make $5000) then this practice will continue. I am reminded of the business owner whose business was doing poorly, with nary a sale to be had. In frustration he turned to his manager and said "business is rubbish and we are not seeing any customers, its a good thing we didn't waste any money on advertising this month". 🙂 As for Sim's proposal, it revolves around "bots and scrapers" as I understand it, so its unlikely you'd implement this on eBay or Gumtree for example but rather target/scrape those sites having a beneficial effect to someones game site. Build it @Sim and I will buy a copy!
  5. Traffic is every webmasters holy grail @Sim, bypass the middleman and do away with the wiki idea and simply go with your "I Will/would end up creating some type of Bot to generate traffic." idea. I will buy a copy the moment you release it, along with just about anyone who operates a website ... you will be worth a fortune crazy quick. 🙂
  6. I like and support the concept @Sim however a site like that WILL require considerable promotion in and of itself, to generate the volumes of traffic that will then ultimately navigate to the various games sites and thereby benefit those games. Organic traffic via search engines will appear to be be the most cost effective however LOTS of stuff will need to be done (SEO on page and off, link building, promotion both paid and unpaid etc, which all come with their own costs) before any first page rankings will be offered by said search engines. If you have the time and commitment to take on a project like this then I say 'go for it" but just a domain name, hosting and a script won't, in my opinion give you the results that would be necessary to make this successful.
  7. If not President, I believe Vice President should be considered. 🙂 Ahhh @Sim ... on an unrelated matter, may I inquire as to where the HTML5 games (at least 2) are, that where going to be in the Marketplace by the weekend? 🙂
  8. Looks like thats what it may be @Sim, why didn't you think of this great idea?? This should really help you with those couple of HTML5 games you were going to have in the Marketplace "by the weekend". 😂
  9. Front page looks nice but takes a very long time to load with the over 10mb mp4 your using as a background ... I thought something was broken for a moment.
  10. Just purchased this nice little mod ... thanks @Dayo. 🙂
  11. Weekend has come and gone @Sim and I'm NOT seeing any games? 😎
  12. Looks like a nice mod @BeNiiiBoiii ... keep up the great work. In terms of the version number, thats a bit like saying it will be 1999 again next year because its new, I'm thinking you should have numbered it V2.0 ! 🙂
  13. What a lovely gesture, happy Easter to you also @athena26. 🙂
  14. @Sim ... I would buy blackjack, blocks, tic tic and chess if you created them, others as well ... cheers.
  15. @Dayo ... those two lines are identical, typo?? Ok, all good ... your suggesting that line be uncommented, cheers. 🙂

    Header.php

    Did you get this sorted?
  17. No argument from me. 🙂
  18. And what a spirited reply, its kind of you to say. 🙂
  19. Well there ya go, good job ... I would have suggested that but it didn't ummm, seem logical at the time. 😂 Seems odd that it was working and then without reason it stopped working and then required some additional logic, hmmm. Nothing like a good mystery I always say.
  20. That suggests is not so much a coding error but something else. Have you changed the php version recently or if you using your hosts default version, have they changed it?
  21. No problemo @Sim and your welcome. 🙂 I understand the issue may have been resolved privately but if someone posts rubbish like that in the public domain its going to attract a response, certainly from me anyway. Truth of the mater is it should have been handled privately from the get go.
  22. Have to agree with @big_mike here, its not a perfect world and it will be fixed at the end of the day ... relax @Karma 🙂 "before going to bed make damn sure everything is working including the administration area" ... if someone suggested that to me, I'd be coming down the wires seeking them out, not to mention demanding someone install a particular message service because it suits THEM or demanding respect... now thats just plain cheeky. 😂 Keep up the great work Sim.
  23. Looking good, keep up the great work. 🙂 There are some typos on the front page that need addressing and there is quite a bit ccs wise that could be done to make the theme a little less bland but I understand its a work in progress ... so have at it and the best of luck going forward.
  24. Thanks for the update @Dayo ... great work. 🙂
  25. My two cents worth. Firstly, promises DO get broken and partnerships for the most part (for various reasons) frequently do not work out longer term so try and avoid them. Don't put yourself in the position of being dependent on others to achieve success, ask for advice, hire people, seek opinion but at the end of the day you alone are responsible for your achieving a result, no one else. Your unsure if you should keep following the path you have been on but only YOU can answer that question. Are you still interested in the idea, do you have motivation, do you see something worthwhile coming out of your efforts? If the answer is a resounding yes to those questions then you have your answer, however if the whole thing seems a little wishy washy then perhaps its best to walk away now before investing any more time and effort. You appear concerned about "flooding the market" relative to a mafia style theme but in the scheme of things, how many actually exist relative to the WWW in its entirety? Sure there might be dozens, hundreds, thousands of games sharing a similar genre but I do not see that as a limiting factor at all. Did Colonel Sanders say "I have a chicken shop already, I don't want to flood the market" or did the used car yard that just opened down the street say that "there are lots of cars yards already, maybe I should not open mine". Should we be suggesting that we already have Google, why waste time developing another search engine (to break a monopoly is why) or FB or Twitter? Should we be suggesting that we limit the WWW to one of each kind of unique content (unique content being a rubbish Google decree) and anyone attempting to add more than that is to be scorned? I say poppycock to that idea and suggest that if its simpler for you to go mafia, THEN GO MAFIA! Here is the thing, you can have the absolute best website/game on the WWW, it can have the most unique theme, stunning graphics, dancing girls and offers a free beer and a packet of your favourite crisps upon registering BUT if no one knows its there then its NOT going to work and I venture to say that with many of the mafia games out there bugger all players know about or subsequently play them. Sooo, develop something decent and interesting making sure both onpage and offpage SEO is the best you can offer, build some quality links to the site and then advertise the daylights out of it, or at least to the best of your budgets ability because without making people aware of its presence things will be slow at best. Organic traffic will pick up as the site gains traction but you will have to kickstart the thing to begin with. And don't forget, all the big shot websites around the place that have been going for years, started out at the bottom with few visitors, funky software and no idea they were going to become as successful as they are today, they developed over time .. but with a bit of motivation and just a bit of luck, YOU could be the next one to go there. With all due respect, I'm not presently seeing the kind of commitment required to come out on top, however thats not to say you cannot turn that around and slay it. Owning/operating a game can be very rewarding (particularly a successful one) not to mention make you a few bob on the side and to that end I wish you every success going forward. 🙂
