I got that part, I was just furthering on from the conversation and pointing out the problems. Wasn't an attack :)

Where to begin, where to being? The *only* time backticks are useful is if you're using reserved keywords. Coding standards explicitly tell us to avoid reserved keywords, so why would you use them? Ergo, why would you use backticks? Coding standards also tell us not to use spaces in identifier names, so why do you use them on every identifier? Your Stackoverflow link backs up my point, all it does is explain the appropriate use of the backtick. And the post is 4 years old. Backticks are not ANSI-SQL compliant. Which causes an issue with support. I get it, you guys work explicitly with Mccodes and this is the adopted method, plus you're likely never going to use another DBMS, but you're spiraling in to bad practices. Sure, if you're an idiot and you think "select" is an appropriate name for a database, use the backticks for it. Or you could be taken seriously as a developer and just follow good practice?
-
I am not fully sure I understand what you're asking, could you give a better example? What's the specific number? As for this "massive stress on the db", I wouldn't worry. It sounds like you just want to update a database on every page load. The problem with this forum is a lot of the developers don't actually understand what they're talking about. As a rule of thumb, I don't trust anyone that wraps all of the query arguments in backticks because they clearly don't understand this simple concept (you people know who you are, you freaks). These people are also the ones that will tell you "avoid querying the database wherever possible because MySQL is cancer and slow". Ignore it. PHP bastardizing aside, what you are asking for really would warrant you to increase your CPU with your host.

Was just pointing it out! At least now you know :)

Just FYI, I wouldn't really use Control Structures without curly braces. Not only is it ugly (IMHO), but it's also not PSR compliant. Plus, it's a nightmare for consistency considering that this method will only look for the next expression, if you use curly braces, it will treat everything inside of the if as a grouped expression.
-
Well, the regular expressions used there are a bit silly anyway. You need to add delimiters to the expression, making the expression; /^[^@]{1,64}@[^@]{1,255}$/ But the more sensible solution would be to use filter_var(). if (!filter_var($email, FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL)) { return false; } Also, quick edit. The source code for FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL does a much more comprehensive check on the email. Source.

Fun fact; Fraudguards API is written with Lumen, Laravel's micro-framework. Which is why you get the error "Whoops, looks like something went wrong" (typical Laravel). Anyhow, it would be ideal for you to write a class, to better handle errors. But, if (as you say), you're not the greatest with PHP, this could prove a little difficult. This will work: $curl = curl_init(); curl_setopt_array($curl, array( CURLOPT_URL => 'https://api.fraudguard.io/ip/1.1.1.1', CURLOPT_USERPWD => 'username:password' )); $resp = curl_exec($curl); var_dump($resp);

He wouldn't be able to DDoS us anyway, that's why it's laughable. We use unmanaged dedicated servers, so, even if he didn't have the brain capacity of a 2 year old and did follow through and actually did some damage, it'd be down to us to fix. Again, not a problem. Plus, we use CDN's. I'm not worried that he's actually going to use a botnet against me, I actually applaud him to do so because it would be hilarious. Being in this industry for over 10 years, I'm used to dealing with idiots. The post was more to show people what this "good guy Zettie" hiding behind a different username was all about.

I saw him around the forum. Thought he was alright. Now he's got me on the edge, I'm rly sceird his gun bootnetz meh.

I usually don't care for this sort of stuff, and someone calling me a "c**t" doesn't bother me because I'm not 12 years old. However, what followed was amusing and I felt like sharing. So, you all know Zettieee, I'm sure. Did you know he was a scumbag? Probably not. Right, so, lets start at the beginning. First, he calls me a "c**t", which is fine, it just tells me he's a child. This is the reason I started the thread, though. This is fun. I'm not shy about my identity, so this information is easy to find. He went to my Github profile, where my business website is linked and then he took that information, and like the man he is, tried to get someone else to do his dirty work: It humours me slightly. One, because as if he'd be able to cause any lasting damage to my site. A simple Botnet isn't going to cut it. Zettieee, you're an idiot. Two, why do people go directly to this? Are we 10 years old? "I called someone a name and then they didn't react how I wanted, please DDoS them". I think he's upset because he didn't get a reaction out of me, who knows. And yes, SlimeTP is Zettieee. I just thought I'd share, because some people work with this child and they should know who they're working with. Peace.

His user class had both variables and functions, albeit the class was bad but both those points were there. Not sure what you're getting at? I don't think you understand object referencing.

Lol, you're telling me that Torn won't use a Framework like Laravel because of security issues? Big frameworks like Laravel/CI/Zend are all tested by thousands of developers. I'd rather put my faith in code that has been put through it's paces than code that a bunch of employees made, cutting corners because they only want to be paid. There are bigger sites that handle a lot more sensitive data than Torn and a lot of them will use a framework.

Didn't see. /thread

I know the forum structure has already been discussed, but, are we going to get new boards? I am not an McCode's developer. I'd do it if you had deep pockets, but, this isn't the type of forum for that. So, how about discussing other topics. Obviously I'm going to suggest Laravel or Zend2, but other Frameworks would be awesome to discuss. Me providing content for McCode's simply isn't going to happen.

That set you provided is massive, what more could you want!? Opengameart is good, though, as mentioned by Coly.
-
I heard it was also quite bad, thus why I don't play it. I don't really game, either. I have an xBox One that hasn't been used in AGES. I play CS:GO sometimes, that's it.

New web development forum with a section for game engines
IllegalPigeon replied to IllegalPigeon's topic in Web Developement
Forum uses XenForo. You can disable the copyright if you pay. Javascript was not mentioned, but it will be. Like I said, if I've missed something, I'll add it in. Content management refers to the type of content you stick on the front-end, for purposes such as SEO or to get reviews about your content. You're referring to a Content Management System. "Content management (CM) is the administration of digital content throughout its lifecycle, from creation to permanent storage or deletion". Even if we were to assume everyone had a back-end system to manage their content, even though they don't, it's still front-end. Also, regards to spam...1 person manually signed up and edited his profile. I can't do much about that, only ban them. C# is under "General Development" The only languages I'd be unable to help with there is Ruby and C#. It's a forum, people capable of answering such questions will come, it's just a waiting game! Yes, it used to be associated with British Indian Ocean Territory but is more associated with tech nowadays. https://www.name.com/domains/io -
New web development forum with a section for game engines

Couldn't help myself! -
Alright, so, as good as this forum is, me and CaptainQuack have taken it upon ourselves to create a new forum geared towards web development. We have included a section for games like McCodes, feel free to suggest more. I'll add whatever engines we've missed. Same for things like Frameworks, if that's what you want to discuss, for example; Laravel. This isn't a site for just PHP/HTML, feel free to come and discuss your preferred language (@Sim I'm looking at you, if I've missed something, tell me, I'll add it). You shouldn't have to put up with spam, either (fingers crossed), on the subject of spam, maybe Magictallguy could come help me out, tell me how I can cause the most inconvenience to users with CAPTCHA. (Just joking, please no one cry, just making a joke about that thread!). On the note of that thread, Coly010 you're also invited ;) Jokes aside, everyone is invited to come and check it out. I'll be more than happy to help with development questions regarding PHP, Laravel, etc. I'll also post up some tutorials for Laravel and other stuff. Myself, CaptainQuack, KyleMassacre and ~Rob0t are currently moderating. There's nothing there at the moment so come and say hello. Script47 and Dayo wanted mentions here, so...there. Also, Dominion can tell us more about how PHP is made out to be something it's not. (Another joke, calm down people!). Er, I think that's it. I'll still be around here, just not as much. I only really show up here when I'm summoned anyway! Or if someone is dropping some dank memes. Forum: http://webmonkeys.io/ Ciao!

Anyone says that there's "nothing new to learn" in PHP literally only spent 1 month using it properly. You can never know everything about a language.
-
I actually found it hilarious. He wasn't trying to learn, at all. He was claiming to be a great developer and then giving wrong advice to people and producing crap work. Don't claim to be something you're not. I give CaptainQuack **** everyday for claiming to be a developer when I physically sit here and watch him copy and paste code off of Google then ask me to fix whatever it is that he's done that isn't working.
-
I was watching CaptainQuack try to debug some of his ****ty code today. He wanted to see some results that were returned by a payment gateway; echo '<pre>'; echo $_POST; echo '</pre>'; True story.

I'm working on Skynet.
