1. - Messages can now contain a request of money as well as sending money. (Was possible but it wasn't visible) - Trainings can have a display condition (to show per location for example) - Combat arena can have a display condition (to show per location for example) - Trainings can have multiple sessions to get the desired training and therefore takes time to archive. - Game can be locked by admins, and then only admins can log in. (New module game_lock for that) - New module works which let players gain some money, and takes some time to do. Quick questions: Would you like to have a flood control? For example, if a player load pages too quickly (like X page in Y sec), the module will block a user for a given time. That could be a quick bot prevention without yet adding captcha everywhere.
2. On the home page: " Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'year1920_owner'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/year1920/public_html/class/class_db_mysql.php on line 51 FATAL ERROR: Could not connect to database on localhost (Access denied for user 'year1920_owner'@'localhost' (using password: YES))"
3. Sorry link doesn't work... And I would suggest you to remove the w3 hosting from your signature as you stopped offering hosting.
4. Would say that he got upset and removed all... too bad.
5. I don't think I have been rude, and if so please excuse me. I simply tried to give an honest point of view (mine), and you can take it or trash it. But if you check back my past reviews I sadly give always the same kind of feedback: - No appeal on the home page (lack of info / look) - Bad registration workflow - No explanation of the game - No tutorial - No story - No appeal (to me at least) Sadly this same kind of feedback can be copy / pasted for most of the games people post on MWG. Why? because it lacks the fundamentals, which is an idea, a story, and game rules. You guys all start with a script (self written or not), put some modifications on it, maybe code some stuff by yourself or not, change the look or not and expect to have a game. Sorry that doesn't work. Shall I respect you more by avoiding to post my review? If so, you should not ask for a review at first.
6. I checked it as you asked, you left before I explained you all, you will then get my comment visible for all: - Home page is as annoying as any McCode game can be: totally empty, not appealing, nothing push me to register. - Registration is bad, I register, (which looks exactly the same as login), and after that you end up again in the registration page, the best would be to jump in, in the worse case like McCode does (which is bad) go back to the login. - Terms and condition after registration? Well sorry maybe I don't accept them, so why register? - I'm in finally, got NO INFO (like always sadly in those game) of what to do, there is an hint about FAQ and Guides, FAQ being totally emtpy guide I still search it... Why not put a link directly in your text? - The left side menu... is full of links... yea but beside that? Don't know, All actions seems to be nearly the same and can be accessed via the "commit crime" or many can. Too many captcha with recatpcha which honestly I have an hard time to use and don't protect yourself against bots. - the look is... as plain as possible, yet not ugly. - The message system is not the kind of things I would ever consider a message system. - Chat open a new page... which doesn't work So overall, the experience is poor. Sorry but even with the installation of an engine without any kind of work from yourself you would end up with a game of that kind. Sorry but a game without a story, without a goal, without game mechanism / thinking , well for me it's not a game, it's a collection of links and code behind without any appeal. You demonstrated that you can upload some code on the server and you are maybe able to customize something as I don't how much is from you and how much you found on the net, yet you fail to show that this is a game IMO. Sorry for the bad review, but I think you should go back to the thinking board and come with a real story, with something to push the player to not leave after 2 min. If you want more info, come back to the chat and I shall explain it more in details. BTW providing a demo username and password would at least lead to some of us testing it without having to invent some username / password and feel the pain of the registration.
7. - Tutorial have been fixed. - Exploration got an improvement too. Not only the provide new art (which IMO fit better), now when you click on the image, you actually dig a small hole on it and you see the holes you dig:
8. You may check out: NWE: http://www.nw-engine.com or as free alternative: GL Script or EZ RPG But if you specify a bit more what you are after maybe we could help you more.
9. Well you have basically 3 options: 1) Code all yourself and be sure it will be the game you want. Takes a lot of time, yet you will know it fully. 2) Use an engine as base code (free or not free), which should save you some time, and bring you some knowledge about how to do some of the work. Depending on the engine you may learn also bad ways of doing things and you may need time before knowing exactly how the engine does the things. 3) Buy an existing game, which will basically somehow freeze you in some way as the game is there, and if you have players I doubt you will trash all to change drastically the game. The advantage of this last one is that in no time you have your game. Honestly, the last option seems to be the worse for a game designer. Sure you would have a game quickly but it will not be YOUR game in the sense you will not design it from the beginning. It will not be your world but the world of somebody else. Even the story may not be exactly what you had in mind initially. If what you want is managing a game, then you should maybe partner with somebody as owning a game usually means a lot more than simply buying some code.
10. Thanks, I still need to figure how to make the tutorial module works well with the new folding menu, and I will be happy with myself too ;)
11. Beside being a nice number for a version (right?), here is the planned features for 1.1.1: A reworked (yet not fully finished) combat screen: Health and energy will be display on bars on the sides, and only the last action appears in the top right corner. It should make the combat look better. This is valid only for the normal turn based combat, not the one click combat which basically remains the same. I want also to introduce some variety in the weapons, not sure if we will see it in this version or not. Another point is the message system which now allows to multi-select (or select all) the messages and delete them. Only messages which are not both new and with an attachment can be deleted. Messages with an attachment will have a small icon. Also, arenas and training will be location aware. If I have time I will also improve the training module. So overall this version 1.1.1 is an improvement of the existing modules without bringing yet new modules it should still improve the overall quality. Planned release is the 16th July if everything goes smooth.
12. Come on, how can you expect an amateur / hobby site provide translations. And in which languages? All? Sure sure... Go forward and don't worry too much about those things yet. Also, just as info, there is some odd problems about knowing which law must apply to a website, the hosting country law, the owner country law or the visitor country law. Sadly, here again it's not 100% clear as in some cases all 3 applies! By looking around, for UK that's what I found: http://www.designspring.co.uk/articles/uk-legal-website.htm http://thedistance.co.uk/journal/2011-07/legal-requirements-of-a-uk-ecommerce-website 1) From what I can tell, it seems it applies to companies / business, so for hobby stuff you should not need anything, yet, of course, if you gain money from your site, it's hardly an hobby anymore. 2) You may need some data protection regulation / privacy info page etc... 3) Users should be informed about cookies used by your website (opt in / opt out) what about PHP sessions? 4) translation is not a requirement but disabilities user access seems to be a must. 5) copyright laws apply.
13. The usually give it free for a couple of reasons: - Next release shall come and you will have to pay the full entry price to buy it (therefore if you liked the old you may want to pay for the new) - They stop the business and give away their discontinued products - They offer a free version, and then "add ons" needs to be payed to be really productive. I don't know the reason behind those free offers, but anyhow, if you like them, it's all good.
14. Act fast, I don't know how long it will last, but you can download free tools here: http://www.daz3d.com/products/?home_k_btn=sidekick - Bryce let you create 3D landscape (I prefer Vue 10) - Daz let you work with humans like poser - Hexagon seems to be a 3D modeler, but never checked it. Anyhow at the price (free) it makes sense to grab them.
15. Web sockets are... so far more of a prototype of wished feature than something I would really use. Why? Because most (enterprise) firewalls would block them, and because they would require some... more work on the server side. Yet, if you manage to make them work and you don't have issues with the firewall of your customers, they are certainly better smarter than AJAX. On the other side, you can do Ajax like google do, they keep the connection for like, 30-60 sec, and use it to send updates through it during this time, after which, they drop the connection and build a new one (that's for the updates from the server). For the updates of the client, they open a new AJAX nearly every time the client need to send some updates.
16. Cinema 4D is a great package and you can certainly produce some good art with it. One of the most complete packages out there, as it cover basically all, from modeling, texturing, animation, rendering and even some simulation. Yet to get all those you need to buy the full package which is not free, as you end up at a price of 3695$ ! At that price, I would personally look into Softimage but... that's personal choice.
17. Well if you look around sites like: http://underdevelopmentlaw.com/tag/trademark/ It's clear you CANNOT use trademarked names / content, or even content which could be too similar to some other (like harry potter). So... If your game is an amateur game, and you will have like 100 people playing I doubt somebody will ever make an issue of it, yet if it starts to be well known, the trademark holder will quiet certainly fire up something. Best practice? Avoid it if you know it could be on the edge or if you already know it infringe some copyright / trademarks.
18. No you normally cannot without agreement of the holder of the trademark
19. Maybe you should also post in the right section... Thread closed.
20. While not look at our list of links: http://makewebgames.io/content.php/151-Helpful-Links
21. Sure basic, but better written for sure, and you don't learn the wrong way to do things.
22. Try ezRPG or NWE (free edition) to start with, both should give you a good start and show you how to solve some of the issues.
23. Froty: NWE is much newer than McCode, so no there isn't as many mods on NWE (nor on any other engine here). Yet, you should evaluate your needs, and the pro and cons of each engine. What would be useful to you 1000+ mods you will never even try as they don't fit your needs? Also, many of the mods you will find here basically are variations of others so they are not true modifications just improvements of something.
24. Why not start with GL or ezRPG? Both are free. GL would already offer most of what McCode offers too.
25. And start first with HTML as all your questions are HTML related. Enough tutorial around. Start to work a bit, read, try and learn. You choose to start something hard, then you need to invest the effort.
