Hi, We (Nickson and I) started to cleanup the board to simplify the structure. We basically didn't removed any thread/posts (beside a couple of completely out-dated threads) instead we moved / merged some sections. This work is maybe not completely finished however we hope to bring a bit more overview and allow new comers to post more easily in the right section. Suggestions / feedback is welcome of course.

- IP with 255 varchar is certainly too big. Yet you may want to keep a bit of space due to IP V6. - Char / Varchar: you can mix both in the same table however if you do so you may actually not gain anything from the usage of char. I would personally use char only if the size of the field is constant. Which means, if I know I will ALWAYS use 2 char then I use char, otherwise I will always fallback to varchar. However it's up to you to choose your strategy. I doubt you will see all that much difference. - Int / small int, yes sure you could gain some space by using the right type of data. But check exactly the size taken by your record / table and then think about the size of your disk and tell me if that will actually make a huge difference. Maybe not. So for something where you know for sure it will not go above a given limit then choose the right one, for the other leave a little margin doesn't harm. Overall, the strategy used by McCodes 2 to store data is certainly not the best but changing completely the table structure will quiet certainly kill the possibility to use many mods out of the box. Maybe you should consider other engines before simply changing the table structure of McCodes as the issues don't stop there and you will have so much work to really clean it that you may actually gain more time from starting from scratch or as said use another engine.

HTTP cache has been implemented. You will be able to enable / disable it from the admin menu. The goal of this is to let the browser cache all the static content (js, css, images) by adding the right headers to the response. I have to make some security checks with this to ensure we don't open security holes but beside that we should be up and running with the cache which should reduce server loads yet again.

ShizzleNizzle or WhizzBang => Paypal fraud

Well of course the person can install it on some server... but no updates, no check of the version, no access to the market place, etc... so 50% or more of the advantages of owning a copy of NWE is lost. In my opinion at least. -
Also improved the in game profiler. Now shows all the timings from the nearly top row of the code, till nearly the last one: Of course this is an admin only tool and can be enabled / disabled. The idea here is to show where the engine takes time (currently you see it's mainly the first lib includes and the queries which are consumers). That should help you to understand how to optimize your game later on (if needed).

Just to keep you informed of the development which is going on: - The wizard for the condition / action will be further expanded to accept UserVariables - The clans is coming in, and even if at first it will be a bit basic, it will be modular as well which means you will be able to add clans features yourself by defining yet a new module. - We do plan to have NPC dialogs with conditions and actions which could be used to really setup a story which can trigger actions like quests / missions and more. I don't know yet if this will be in the next release. - NPC shops will have conditions such that only if you meet a given condition it appears. - Explorations will be improved with graphics. - Added an "add / remove stat" from the admin menu. - Password recovery has been implemented - Potions to reduce hospital time has been coded in. - Fixed a bug with the installer which wasn't creating the tables if a module was disabled during the installation. I plan to have a new release by the end of this week or maybe next week. Depends on when it's ready. After this release, I may work on a location module (to help Sporto but could be useful to others as well), and to improve a couple of existing modules. For those wondering how the sales are going, beside the fact I will not give any numbers out, I will just say that sales are progressing and are not stopping. So more and more people are actually having a license of NWE. We (illusions and me) are also working on a full game based on NWE, for a couple of reasons, one being to be sure that the engine can be used for a game and allows me to see what's missing to make a game with the engine, and maybe to come out with a full package which would be a ready to be played game (as some of you requested). Yet it may take some times before we give it out as we want to make things nice (at least at the game level) before we open it to the public.

ShizzleNizzle or WhizzBang => Paypal fraud
a_bertrand replied to a_bertrand's topic in Collaboration Experiences
No the email address of paypal is correct, it's the one used in the registration process of the engine which is not. Anyhow, not a big deal, as said, the engine is now useless to this person, or as good as something which cannot be updated or used in live environment. -
ShizzleNizzle or WhizzBang => Paypal fraud
a_bertrand replied to a_bertrand's topic in Collaboration Experiences
Well sadly with paypal the seller has basically no protection at all. So either you comply with paypal dispute, or you basically automatically lose if you don't ship physical items. Somehow paypal is totally un-secure for the seller. -
1) No you should not 2) That's for sure not what we should have at the end. However as it has currently no effect (positive or negative) it's there just to show that it's possible some sort of PvP. 3) Player combat should use AP as well in my opinion, and / or you should be able to attack another player only once per day.

You are too curious ;)

Italy. And then back to Switzerland.

Good luck with your project. It's the first time I see this phonegap framework. Seems interesting even if actually I wonder what's the true plus value in your case against a standard HTML 5 website. The HTML 5 website would have the advantage to do not require any download, of course the price would be that you don't have an App to offer, and maybe some functionality which could be offered like voice chat, or pictures or whatever could not be done. On the other side you would have basically live upgrades, and working on basically any platform. Also, you didn't really stated what you want. Somebody willing to work for free for you or are you willing to pay for it?

I actually changed country for about 4 years and now since 10 years I moved back to my home country, yet in another part of it which speaks even another language (so it's nearly another country as well). Could I move again? Yes maybe, even if honestly I doubt I will ever find a better place (work and living) than the current one.

After some learning process (and I'm way not there), I can say I start slowly to feel at home. I still don't like much the user interface, as I think it's a bit on the very odd side of what I ever used, however the tool is incredibly powerful. This 3D object has been done by me with just the help of my mouse (I can assure you it's even more joyful with a graphic tablet however I didn't had access to it while drawing this item). As you can see it's not finished, but it shows there is lots of potential to create monsters, people, and whatever you want. But not really all that good for solid objects like chairs, phones, guns, tanks or other more hard edged shapes. The "zombie" took me about 3-4 hours to model from scratch.

I would say yes, but of course it doesn't depends just on those criteria, it depends on who did both games, what they are, how they are unique and how the premium / membership is planned. So overall it's a lot of different criteria which needs to be taken in account and not simply the current gain. In our example, if the second game is made by somebody not knowing anything about PHP, first game ever made, nobody knows him/her, no story, no business plan, then of course it would be totally stupid to invest there. BTW investing just 150$ for a template will make little to nothing. A game doesn't run on a template even if you don't believe it. Check Kingdom of Loathing which DO NOT have any fancy template, nor fancy images, and yet is one of the most successful text game I know.
-
Well investing in game one which is doing 500$ per month, I would say you are a bit late as the owner has all the possibilities to grow alone and yet do not share the profit. On the second game, if your participation is marketing, and ideas then maybe it will be profitable for both.

I would agree with rulerofzu here. 15k may seems a lot, but a professional development cost a lot more than that. Just to give you an hint, a professional developer working a full year for you will cost you between 60K and 120K (if hired in the US). So 15K is just for the development of a custom code... nearly nothing. For the advertisement, sure it may bring some people, but think that advert is extremely costly. So you may burn it in 3-5 month or even less depending on the campaign you are doing. So overall the 15K which is the top of what is proposed here, is a lot for an HOBBY website, but peanuts for any professional development. For an hobby website then maybe the 50% share could make sense, for a pro, certainly not at those conditions. Remains all the legal issues which are clearly hard to judge just like that, but even hiring a lawyer to check the contract and make sure the transaction is valid and makes sense will eat up already some money. Maybe not the 15K, but quiet certainly more than 500$. As somebody stated already, would make more sense to use the 15K to build yourself a project than investing into somebody else work.

I'm somewhat unsure about this offer of yours. Basically you will provide some money to game owners in exchange of a 50% of game share? Which means you will be willing to invest between 500 and 15000$ for this. My questions: - What guarantees you will get that you will actually ever get back your investment? - How your investment shall be used? - Will you have your word to say in any decision (or just wait for money back)? - Must the game meet some minimum requirements? - Is there any kind of contract to sign? - How will you make the payment? - What will be your job beside providing some fresh money? Well maybe I'm a bit suspicious, but somebody saying he will give up to 15000$ for basically nothing it seems odd.

I agree with you bluegman991, nothing to add in my opinion.

Official make a wish thread: Request an official mod

Mmm not sure as it wasn't thought at all for that. How useful is it really? -
Checking if a whole file is valid seems overkill. The reason why I say that is the following: 1) If you don't include the file, don't execute it by any other mean, and don't allow remote execution of it (like accessing the file from the browser) you may even allow PHP upload. I mean if it will not be executed it will not harm. 2) Checking the validity if the file pass the getimagesize, the header is correct etc, well checking the whole image will not help you much. How can you detect a valid image or not? Will you make some image analysis? Sorry but doesn't make much sense, would be simply too much time consuming and bring little. For the mime type, yes you are right it's a first precaution, which could already filter out some. BTW It should be the first 8 bytes not 8 bits... as you need 8 bit to form 1 byte ;)

Price is either $ or credits that's why I left it out for the moment, but sure I will show it. And will take into account your suggestions Dom. Spudinski: question of taste and philosophy... no sense to continue the discussion thanks.

I never check HTML validity, specially for my own stuff. Why? because it has no effect of what people actually see. What counts is that browser do render it, now how you wrote the HTML is basically totally irrelevant. If you use word or, photoshop to have something, and if you are able to do what you want, then for me it would be enough. Of course if your site takes 2 hours to load and it doesn't render on the major web browser I would have something against it. As here it's not the case, I don't see the point even to complain about W3 validity nor even to check it ;) For the table vs div, again this is religious war and, I will not even enter it. Enough has been said, everyone can have his opinion on it.

The mime type of the $_FILES array is not really useful. It's easy to send over a PHP file with a mime type of a JPEG.

Someone pointed me that the sale site look was... poor and he said it nicely. Indeed it was, simply I didn't invested time in design, to concentrate on the coding. So as comments come in, I had to react you know me ;) Therefore I invested some time on creating a layout for it, it's certainly not the best, but is an improvement: http://www.nw-engine.com/index.php I added as well some screenshots and explanation of a couple of features, and added the option to sort modules per date, such that you can see new updates or new modules in the shop. Happy browsing.
