You should tell your friend to download the patched version v2.0.3 (presuming that's a 2.0.2 site and he has a legal license), and just mail him and say you done it, I'm sure he'd appreciate your honesty.
-
I have never seen the v2.5 engine I'm afraid, so I'd be no help, but good luck with it.
-
I believe they do, or require very, very small tweaks. It won't be anything major, as remember v2.5 is technically still in the v2 category.

I don't believe those files are missing, more you have to add that sort of stuff yourself. The idea of MCCodes was to have a basic usable game straight out of the box, and to me, that's attacking and crimes, hospital and jail, user profiles and a staff panel. That's all I'd expect. Never fear though, there's plenty in the free modifications section to get you going to pad out your game!

Hi Andy! Could you be more specific in your problem, because remember, a lot of people won't have seen the engine. Is there missing files, or what exactly needs fixed?

How legal is all of this? A few lines intrigue me.. On another forum from which I am a member, a guy was a reverse engineer on a game (released commercially 2001, released for free download 2009), and he was very cautious about it all. He was from Sweden and the Law there states that reverse engineering can only be used for bug fixes, improvements and cannot be used to gain any profit, and that is seen as the most "relaxed" Law of all countries. And was your website closed down in 2008 for legal reasons too?

Interesting stuff. I really like the idea, it's very original for an MCCodes game. Nice work! ;) For the map, you said it generates randomly. Perhaps you could store in database map section (maybe you have 36 "squares" where a person could be), and if you want a full 3D aspect to it, the direction they are facing (1-4 or 1-9), then that part of your map is loaded? Great mod all the same. Congrats on your work so far!

I have a problem...apparently I was picking up a LOT of weapons, but none went into my inventory. Is this supposed to happen?
-
The problem is the $ir global hasn't been defined before, hence it returning a blank error. You need to include the globals file, then use global $ir.
-
That wasn't my point. My point was that any generic host would not have been able to pinpoint that without actually reading the scripts. Yes, of course, anyone setting up a database connection would generally just use $db or $c for their connection, but any host wouldn't even have been able to be so specific. It was explained to me that the owners of the host company are on these forums and have seen many MCC scripts, as well as working on them themselves, so that was cleared up.

I am only a young pup, at 21, but there may have been a time where this was true, however, EU Law covers that a copyright registered in an EU member state is covered throughout the entire EU, not just one state. I have been told about UK copyrights applying in all Commonwealth states, however, I have no knowledge of whether or not that is true. But my point is, the Laws still apply. And from watching numerous episodes of Dragon's Den, they often mention that you need written consent to use/sell a copyrighted US product or service here in the UK.

Apologies on both parts, first quote I saw the image with a blank template, saying something like "Link Here, Link Here, Link Here" down the sides, then the inability to register left me suspicious. I don't like scammers, that's my pet hate :/ I didn't know he was on w3t. I understand Peter has a vast knowledge of the MCC engine, from his posts around the forums. Most that post on here don't work from w3, so one must be suspicious when reading a line like that.

Isn't there already a lot of MCCodes sub-forums? Adding more could be a bit untidy looking
-
The host would not have told you that. In fact, if they knew to do that, I'd be worried. The reason is that the $db-> is a connection written specifically by the MCC script. If your host knew this, that would mean they are viewing your scripts, which they shouldn't be doing.

In all honesty, all those add-ons appear to be from the free section on this forum. There's nothing on there I haven't seen before. The design is good I guess, but I don't think you should have paid $200 for it. The game isn't much different to others, so I'd pass, but it would be a very good starting point for someone looking to learn the management role on a game. I wish you good luck on your sale, and I'm sure someone would be interested, but just not me on this occasion. Good luck //bineye

Quick question: What the **** is up with your captcha? I tried to register to get a look at your game in more detail, and the captcha is just blank with a few lines. Have you got a demo account?
-
Similar? Why would you want one the same? People would appreciate something that's not been done before, otherwise, why would they play yours instead of the one that's already up?
-
Oh ok! No problem! :)
-
There's one that no one has mentioned, which for me as well as many others, that has a factor on the decision to play or not, and that is the actual name of the game. Think about it, how many times have you seen "Mafia City" then "Mafia Village" follow along right after? If you are like me, you won't want to even look at the second one after seeing the first.

I'm confuzzled....did it work for you or not? lol!!

Which line is 106? if ($chance == 16) { $gained=rand(2,9)*$ir['level']; $db->query("UPDATE userstats SET strength=strength+{$gained} WHERE userid={$ir['userid']}"); print "You come across an old tree. Using your might, you knock it down gaining <b>{$gained} strength.</b>"; } Try copying that. Should work ok.
-
Problem is you have the query within the print statement. You should do the query, then print the message of "You gain blah...".
