Bennyh789
Hi all, I got a message on my game threatening that if i do not buy a license for the game they will take legal action against me. So my question is does anybody have a mc code v2 license for sale as i do not have enough money to buy it direct from them If not is my only option to close my game forever? Thanks Ben
Isomerizer
Mccodes requires a license to use there scripts. Your basically running a pirated version and are using there scripts illegally. Piracy, the same aspect as downloading music illegally. They have the right to take legal actions against you and have your game shut down, I'd recommend if you can not afford the v2 license, then run the game using MCCODES Lite. It's free. http://mccodes.com/engines.php
Bennyh789
Yea but lite has barely anything on it, and i have made a lot of mods and used a lot of mods from here so lite would not work, i guess i have no option but to shut my game down
Dominion
If the game is making money you could always contact mccodes, and see if they would be willing to wait until donations add up. Keep in mind I doubt they would take any deal that takes longer then a few weeks. If it's not earning take it off-line until you're able to afford a licence, and simply put it back up. In any case I would make sure there are no other options...
Bennyh789
Thats the thing i dont even have donater packs on my game, I simply wanted it for enjoyment only, I feel donator packs ruin some games Not 1 penny as come from one of my players into my bank account I just do it for fun and not to make money So it looks like its closing

Bennyh789
I may not of rightfully owned it but it doesnt take the fact away that i have spent a lot of time and effort making it the way it is, and also given a pretty decent gaming experience to over 150 active users

I would suggest starting over with Lite or another game engine.

chicka
I'm shocked no one has mentioned this already.. McCodes is not a registered business, They do not have a registered trade mark, There for mccodes can not take any legal action what so ever. At most they can contact your hosting company complaining about using their codes but as for legal action it would cost them $$$$ over a $100.00 license. Its probably an empty threat. I assumed "legal action" would be a DMCA, and it has worked in the past with such sites for mccodes.

Again, Mccodes is "NOT" Registered there for DMCA would not apply to them. DMCA is not free. Just like the court system you have to pay to file paper work, court costs, lawyer fees if you hire one, administration fees, this fees and that fees. I know for a fact that sites based on Mcc v2 have been taken down using a DMCA take down notice before. Without getting into the "Is mccodes allowed to do this" or "Does mccodes have copyright" the fact is I know they have done it, and in the past it has worked. Since when did you have to be a registered business and have a registered trademark for a copyright proof of ownership dispute such as using php scripts without a licence. It would be very easy for them to prove ownership of the scripts so requesting a webhost to take down a game is a mere formality.

runthis
EDIT: More important: chances are the person who messaged you (in game) is not really from mccodes, just someone for some reason got upset enough to fake threaten you for fun You can run your game (for non profit) and put at the bottom of the page "For Promotional Purposes Only" and link to the mccodes website, completely legal way to get away with that. In texas, where i live, people mix famous artists music, on the back of every one of these bootleg cds says "For Promotional Use" and gives credit where credit is due, this is a legal way of getting around paying royalties, however, if found that you making a profit, your liable for your profit, plus any profit loss they may say is a result of potential visitors going to your game instead of legit owners games, in which you could be liable for profits resolving from loss of ad revenue, time spent investigating your game, etc Edited November 14, 2011 by runthis
