a_bertrand Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I was unhappy about my planets inside Nebula Rider, so I started to play with my new 3D modeling tool, some textures and actually 2 spheres (one for the planet, one for the atmosphere). Here is the result: Comments, suggestion & feedback welcome. BTW The art is not yet in the game so don't search it online, and yes I did it myself, not something from internet ;) Quote
Danny696 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Wow, your nearly as good as me at this stuff ;) Anyway, good work berty :) Quote
DreamCoder Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 What software you using for 3D designing m8 Quote
Dayo Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Looking good but the atmosphere dosent look right. Quote
wizardage.com Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I love the 3D planet, though, I have a friendly suggestion, maybe by adding a unique characteristic, or a kind of feature to the planet that will get players attracted to it or remember the planet because of the characteristic, could maybe play into the storyline. Earth is unique because of a few details, theres the scar on mars and the eye on ... whichever planet that was, maybe add something like that? :P good job though Quote
a_bertrand Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 In principle you are right, however I will not have unique art for each planets of the games as I will have about 300-600 planets overall scattered over the "universe" and that would be overkill for me to make 600 distinct planets ;) So I may have maybe 5-10 different arts for the planets and that's it. Then maybe some unique. Quote
wizardage.com Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Ah of course, I didn't know they would be generic planets, just giving a suggestion :) Good luck on the planets Quote
a_bertrand Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 DreamCoder: Modo 501 (all from the textures, modeling and rendering is done in Modo) Dayo: any specific thing about the atmosphere? Quote
rulerofzu Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Well to me it looks like the planet has a bigger ozone hole than our own! Perhaps some texture on the atmosphere cloud density maybe? Looks cool though Ive never attempted to 3d model so yeah idk what im talking about. On a game I would be happy if it looked like that. Quote
a_bertrand Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 Didn't added clouds as I was thinking of a very thing atmosphere (nearly no air) and there is certainly no water... therefore you should not see clouds. But I will check how I can further improve it. Quote
rulerofzu Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Maybe the atmosphere is not transparent enough to give it a thin impression? But yeah some nice software your using 8o Quote
a_bertrand Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 As always a good software helps, but it doesn't do much alone ;) And yes the atmosphere must be improved somehow. Quote
Zan Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 hmm U can add meteriods and some rock particles in the atmospere? Quote
a_bertrand Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 Asteroids exists in my game, however this is just a screenshot modified with the new art and it is not meant to be a cool still to use as desktop image ;) Anyhow here is a changed version: and a new planet BTW thanks for the feedback! Quote
rulerofzu Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Yeah I like the both of those. Nice work. Quote
Zan Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Hmmm good work... u can add some moons(satelites) instead of man made stelites :P Quote
a_bertrand Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 Zan: the little ship is the ship of the game, the one you will control... Quote
Lilith Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I like it Bert, esp with the improved atmosphere. Just a quick thought, have you tried using hdmi photographs as textures???? you could get a large variety of planets very quickly ... esp with Modo. Quote
a_bertrand Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 Well... Didn't found any good pre-made textures for planets and also I don't really want to have planets which look similar to 100 different games ;) Anyhow thanks for your comments Lilith Quote
