  1. why does everyone always change all double quotes to single quotes within an echo? You can use single quotes with an echo as well ..
  2. You do know that you can customize both the syntax highlighter, and the way it has to tab (and read those tabs) in both komodo and netbeans? Standard it may be different than what you want, but just create a new profile, edit it to your needs, and done, problem solved! ;)
  3. Added code tags, please use these in the future, as well as remove unneeded empty lines... Also, this is basic html knowledge in combination of nested tables. Anonymous has posted an example of how you could do it properly, of course you need to edit that code to suit YOUR needs. But I'm quite sure you'll have to do that yourself... Afterall, if you can own a game, you should be able to do this by yourself, it's not rocket science ;)
  4. off topic: - Sign up date on these forums does not matter... it's just an indication of how long you're a member here, it is not an indication of your technical skills. - the email is still an hotmail... not that I'd mind personally. - it's not posted in partnerships... Back on topic now: Good luck with your search Topic moved..
  5. Thats the fun part of a monthly mini-contest! We could change the contest each time a little bit so users would need to take a different approach each time. We could introduce new technics/tools/frameworks/... via the contests, but we could also create a simple contest where people have to create a certain mod for something else. It really leaves us with quite a bit of options. And if the users don't like it, they can always skip a content and join in on the next one. This also gives us the chance to create contests that go beyond php for those that wish too!   We already did that, hangman in php / c# / js for those that liked. There was hardly anyone who reacted on it. So basically, this is the second time we'll try this ;) more info about that here : http://makewebgames.io/content.php/144-From-theory-to-a-game
  6. This issue has been resolved now. The maximum length of a blog post is now 20000 characters, if this is still too little, please let us know, or use 2 blog posts. As for the tagging issue: The vB blog system doesn't consider you as an entry author, who can add 5 tags, but as "other user", who could only add 2 tags. I don't know why it does that, but both can now add 5 tags.
  7. @A_betrand: I have posted this somewhere in another thread, one that is also about ideas around a kind of things like these. Of course there is more we could judge on, but those are important areas I'd say. Also, I said 10h for an average developer on mwg, you could probably do it in 3h or less :-P. But I do feel you need to put some time in the contest and not just type for half an hour and be done with it. However, contests could vary from time to time, it's not like we always have to have contests of 5h worth of work ;) Scripts should be judged on at least the following: readability -> how easy it is for others to read the code usability -> how easy to use the script is security -> whether there are simple ways to "cheat the system" complexity -> how complex the written code is for the given task And of course ... how close it is to the given subject!
  8. Hi, we need more information regarding this issue you have. We can't help you with this. Please post more information and read the topic below. http://makewebgames.io/showthread.php/39820-READ-before-Posting-for-Help...
  9. 1-2 hours is maybe a bit on the low side, however, it shouldn't take you weeks either. Maybe an hour or 10 max for the avg developer..
  10. I hope so too, but the less submissions, the less we have to check :-P There were already 7 votes last I checked, so I'm pretty sure that there will be more contestants ... I can however not say if they'll all enter.
  11. How can you go for it when we are still discussion some aspects of the mini contests? Going to contest against your own? :o
  12. I don't mind being a judge, but there should be more as one judge ;)   Of course not, the coder needs to write it, but if you want to do mini contests, or explain things to other people / coders, your code needs to be readable. Thus, things like that all matter. So does documentation in fact when you deliver a certain project to whomever it may concern. Now, documentation & delivery isn't much of a priority of this mini-contest, so we could leave that out. But we still need to judge it, so readability is a must. Scripts should be judged on at least the following: readability -> how easy it is for others to read the code usability -> how easy to use the script is security -> whether there are simple ways to "cheat the system" complexity -> how complex the written code is for the given task And of course ... how close it is to the given subject!
  13. Doesn't go that a bit far if you really want a mini competition that everyone can enter? Unless you'd keep it all text based...
  14. We could do this for sure, but I'm not too sure who all could be on the judge side. Also, contestants will need to accept that whatever the judges decide is final. Because I can already imagine the following scenario: Danny wins contest, half a forum goes on a rant.... I don't want to see such thing happen. I'm pretty sure that any decision made by the judges will be a correct decision. After all, I'm quire sure that all judges are fair and experienced enough to actually notice some differences. Otherwise I find it a great idea, and I'm willing to invest time in this little thing. I don't mind managing the project-topics (I already have a few ideas), submissions and what else. I don't think members of the board should lay out whole projects, but just suggest ideas via pm, just to keep it fair to all. There are already 7 people who voted in the poll here -> http://makewebgames.io/showthread.php/40061-Would-you-compete-in-a-MWG-Mini-Game-Contest If we get enough feed back, I'll set this up!   Coding style does matter! Readability to another programmer is important, consistency is important, especially if you work in teams, so yes we should look at that as well. Of course it's less important then the actual working of the script, but it does matter. A simple example is the following: $var = $var1 + $var2; do you know what that line means or does in a program? I doubt you do, but we could also write the line like this: $total = $product_price + $vat; This is just a silly example, of course you have the context and position of the code as well. But I'm pretty sure you can agree, that the second line actually makes more sense than the first one.
  15. Belgium, Firefox, Linux (ubuntu 11.04) USD is probably used everywhere on the internet because the US has currently one of the, or the, strongest markets. That, alongside with the "global acceptance" of the dollar makes it a popular choice. Since many people use it already, newcomers to the circle use it as well. But 2 Brits can perfectly negotiate a deal over paypal in the GBP currency... No one is going to stop you :-P
  16. Komodo Edit (aka openkomodo) for php
  17. Laptop ... but I do have a numpad on it as well, which helps when you've got an azerty keyboard >.> Speed is about the same, but with a laptop I can carry around everything to everywhere. You can easily hook up an external mouse & keyboard when/where needed/possible
  18. It had nothing to do with the topic => posts gone :) and it wasn't a little history lesson, it was a random comment that had nothing to do with the OP. I could delete your last post for the same reason as well.. And no we won't do a domain change. All I said was that we could add one ;) Check your pm..
  19. What you say is very true Anonymous, I share your opinion deeply. Many people here claim to know enough, but in reality they don't. unfortunately I can't control what people would do! Even though I'd like to see some more quality on the work that is being presented here, right now. Maybe it all happens just because the current average knowledge-level is rather low.. I for one, would love to see some more analysis and design, which I can even participate in, but I don't think many people could read any work I create. This means we would have to start from 0 to a certain basic point. But that will take time, and it also looks to me, that many people do not wish to go that route. It seems to me, they are more of the "If it works, and I can do it quickly, it's all good.. " However, this might help users selecting the right tool for their job though. As I've said before, this forum can serve a lot more than just a place for creating web games. It's easy enough to add a second domain (lets say) serverpark.com and point it to these forums as well. We might have to change some things (like a major structure overhaul) around here, but that can all be done as long there is a demand for from our users. I know it will be hard to provide information and help about everything, this is why we don't try to do that now either.   MWG is long past the "mcc only", we would like to move away from just one PHP engine... It's not a secret. MCC itself even agreed with that, as long as MWG keeps supporting the MCC engine, we can add other content as well.
  20. Let them just post here, with what they would like to see or do, much easier for all of us ;) and mr runthis, don't do that please :)
  21. Someone putting his name forward isn't enough. We need to have people who can supply info, and people who need that info... and well, they need to make threads as well. But if you manage to compile a list of users who would like such stuff, I'll be happy to receive it and do something with it.
  22. You're all making assumptions which are not true at all. First off there is another section that is aimed at anything that has to do with a computer, which you can find here http://makewebgames.io/forumdisplay.php/261-Technics if you look rather well, you'll see that the .NET Framework has even it's own board, due to AB asking for it, and many other developers around here knowing it. If you would open up that board you'll see that no one has made a single thread/contribution except AB! We can't simply support every programming language that exists if there is no interest in them. It has been said many, many times that if a certain subject or language gets a lot of interest, that it will get it's own board. But then there needs to be a demand for it, which currently there isn't. The fact that "it doesn't have anything to do with webgames, so it doesn't belong here" is wrong as well. We welcome ANY posts about any subject that's actually anything ICT related. If it doesn't fit the domain, we'll just get another domain name, point it to these forums and make it fit ;) It's not very hard to do. But as I've said before. First there has to be a certain demand, then we'll create the boards for it. We already have too many boards as it is, so we won't just add any if there is nothing to see. Also, MWG has an area for MCC but that doesn't mean we only support MCC. We want to ADD more, but we can't do that without the knowledge and the people wanting it... So in other words there is no disregard of other languages, it's just that there is no demand or activity for them. The best example for this would be the .net framework board. We have a lot of .net developers (vb, vb.net, c#, ...) yet none of them has posted there. This is the same for all other languages. Now back to your original question. Make some threads about a language, we'll notice, a board will be added for it. But a board without content is rather useless. If you have a certain suggestion you do not wish to say in public yet, then feel free to PM me about it. I myself could post a lot of things within .net, c or java boards, but posting when there is no demand for would be kind of pointless as well. That being said, I would love to add more boards about other languages!
  23. Some parties have been contacted, a lot of things have been said. Yet no one can really proof the opposite of what the OP contains. Therefore I see no reason to close or delete this thread. I find this a valid offer to sell. If there are any issues Hosting-and-Design and Scipol should talk them out in private or contact us with a reasonable amount of indisputable proof of what has happened. Since none of the conversations/deals ran over MWG, there is no way we can check, and thus the sale goes on. Peter has also vouched for this being his work, made for Hosting-and-Design.
  24. Like I have said many times before, mafia/crime themed games can still be very successful even though the market might be quite saturated. Just be unique and different, that is what many owners forget or don't do. If you manage to do that, you can succeed, otherwise it will be very hard. Also, make a game you want to create. Make something you enjoy yourself and chose something you can think about easily, you'll need it..
  25. He has received a PM, he knows what to do next :) Don't worry.
