Guest Anonymous Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Hiya all... Just thought I'd stick my oar in and see what's happening... I'll be looking for some beta-testers and possibly a programmer over the next few weeks however in the interim I am offering my development skills out to any serious gamers. > 30 years programming experience, expert in PHP, MySQL, CSS, (X)HTML, JS. I also run my own hosting services running on security-hardened 64-bit BSD servers (multiple machines) all running the latest stable PHP and MySQL. Quote

Haunted Dawg Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Re: Hi Peeps Welcome to the forums just one thing tho. How old are you. You say you have 30 years in exp with php and stuff but in your pic you dont look over 30. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Re: Hi Peeps Nice boy :D But don't you know - 'tis rude to ask a lady her age ... Quote
Haunted Dawg Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Re: Hi Peeps Yes i know its rude to ask a lady there age but seriusly u telling us your like 48? because you cant start learning mysql and that stuff at the age of 1-10 if you were in your 30s. I find it unbelievable that you have 30 years with experiance of php and stuff. Quote
mdshare Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Re: Hi Peeps actually 20y ago I didn't see any html, php, css than again Nyna doesn't say experience in php etc 30y ago I was still busy with old BBS systems and using clipper s87 for database apps, and was I proud to be co-sysop of the Pioneer brand BBS... got a nice superfast devlonics 9600bps modem than (the card was the size of 1/3rd of a a minitower...and YES bps not kbps or mbps) If you refer to hypertext script languages, this was the birth of it... (20y ago) and was slowly used, first was compuserve... wow that was a nice switch from text based BBS to a graphics based compuserve. some history lessons... 1991 HTML had birth 1994 PHP had birth 1995 mySQL had birth 1996 CSS had birth but only at 2000 browsers supported it edit1: 30y ago, must still have been forthran, cobol as I had to learn those also 20y ago and my prof was prob stuck in time cuz he was talking about 10mb HD while I had already a 40mb HD... edit2: oh and 30y ago it was still 8inch floppydisks and a monster of a computer size of a bureau desk Quote
Haunted Dawg Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Re: Hi Peeps Maybe she posted wrong maybe it was 13 or 3 years experiance. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Re: Hi Peeps I was programming a long time before the scripting languages ... In fact I vaguely remember starting on old PDP-10's and 11's - That's old teletypewriter systems with ticker tape for primary store - great fun. (Impossible for playing Doom - but we still wrote some good stuff) Languages - Early days were Cobol, Fortran and Basic (yuch). Quote
mdshare Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Re: Hi Peeps than again Nyna doesn't say experience in php etc 30y ago Do people ever read ??? I said that Nyna did not say 30y exp with php etc... pdp's the old omnibus machines... my parents have still one in the warehouse collecting dust... they can't get rid of what they once paid a fortune for. Never seen it in action even if I was to young to remember... And Basic wasn't so bad... actually interpreter languages back than can be compared now with the web scripting languages.. The name BASIC sounds simple, but most forget that it was a high level programming language. As Basic was dependend on IBM if I recall correct we learned back than turbo basic (same dev of turbo pascal, Borland). Microsoft had on the pc's where ms-dos was installed qbasic I think... gah this is all so long ago. But it was fun, I would love to step back to the old days with no GUIs, previews, etc... I would make a fortune just on service providing and teaching people how to use command line syntax. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Re: Hi Peeps I'd love to get my hands on an old PDP again... Great fun! A few of us together have a selection of older machines - the early ZX80/81, the Forth machine (same as ZX80 but running Forth), Spectrums of course, Commodores, Apple II Europlus ... We keep on threatening to fire them up and see what we can do with them - but never really get around to it. Basic I liked simply because it was a lot faster to write over Cobol - Those 4 divisions (Data, Procedure, Environment? and erm... too long ago! - Nightmare) I moved onto Pascal fairly quickly - (Borland's Turbo Pascal) and then thankfully found C which is still my language of choice. Glad to see that *some* people remember the old stuff - After all, that's where the whole industry sprung from (and indeed, why parts of it are still suffering) Quote
mdshare Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Re: Hi Peeps I loved clipper s87 as language, was THE language to make money from ;) , made several db apps and accounting software which sold nice and easy. I've learned Turbo Pascal as first step to C, was basicly the way to learn to code object oriented. Surprisingly my first job was .... COBOL on a AS/400 :s but learned fast that the market was small/medium sized businesses and that's where clipper s87 came to play. One nasty bit of clipper s87 was that it was so easy to decompile , but soon there where some security features against it... actually most of the compiled apps (whatever language) could be decompiled back than. Was a good source to learn also. The decompiler I used was uhmmm Valkery or something like that.... was really powerfull. And yea it's fun to see some old timers ;) allthough I'm prob like 10-15y younger than you. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Re: Hi Peeps Clipper - Excellent, I'd forgotten all about that one - A cracking product. Made me a score of money too. Clarion was a variant that used basically the same syntax, but had a proper compiler (in fact a cut down version of GNU C IIRC) which meant you could secure your apps pretty well, but it did not seem to receive the same support that Nantucket got for Clipper. hobbes Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Re: Hi Peeps Hey Nyna, You rock! I was an old school BASIC programmer when I was 11 years old using a TRS-80. Pretty brutal, eh? I just got into scripting PHP with SQL just two years ago and have developed my interest (somewhat) for typing thousands of lines of crap. What a great way to kill a few hours! Thanks for your support with all your posts. Quote
