Armenio21 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Alright so i'm new to php well i've been trying to learn it for the last let me say 6 months now. I've become really intriguing with text based games and what not. I was wondering if anyone could tell me like how to get started on one? Like where to begin? I've searched google for hours and have came up with nothing thought i would post in here. I thought making a game would give me a little bit of experience. I'm more into making something political none of that gangster stuff. But any help at all is much appreciated. Thank you very much. Quote

A couple free engines are: Mccode v1- I guess MC no longer supports this engine but a lot of people out here still do. It has almost everything you may need to start a semi functional game and still add more to it. Ezrpg- If you know what you are doing you can use this, this is more of a barebones engine and may not be newb friendly but I happen to tjink its kinda fun experimenting with more than I can do it will give you good practice if your confident in your skills. Gangster Legends- I happen to like this one, it looks real nice feels nice, coding for me I think is pretty clean and organized but also difficult for the newbs. All in all, they all have their ups and downs but its a matter of your preference and what you would like to accomplish. Their are a lot of people here that are also willing to help for a fairly reasonable price depending on of course what all you want help with and a lot of those people will offer you free help/advice as long as you make an attempt(trust me I know, im guilty myself of asking for a lot of help but I do try to give back what and when I can). Also you mentioned making political stuff, pm me cause I have an idea and us two newbs can maybe put our thinking caps on and make something good ;) Quote

Your best to start with login/db connection tutorials online PHP/MYSQL ... DONT use any engine until you know the basics!! The biggest error is new people trying to install mccodes, and people whom have NOT read up anything on mysql or how to connect to a database- so start with that first... know what a database is and where to locate it lol. A couple people have no clue, that I have helped on here that were new to mccodes and php... Edited June 2, 2012 by lucky3809 Quote
Guest Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 If you want to really learn don't use any engine at all, "study" scripts and tutorials, understand the basics. I for one would never use an engine. I started with some basic tutorials and scripts. I think the first error I fixed was division by zero error and syntax error haha, back in the day xD. So my advice, read tutorials then build something from the ground up. Quote
