MCCODES 2.5 vs Ravan's Mafia Script 2.1

Hey Guys,

In 2009, I purchased Ravan's Mafia Script 1.2, before I knew that it was MCCODES V2 with a different header picture. I came across the Ravan website in Google tonight, and decided to try logging back into my old account, which worked. I then downloaded the latest version of the script, for free, and was surprised at what I saw.

In the past, Ravan used to trick people into buying the stock standard MCCODES V2 (with branding removed of course), by having an impressive demo game, that was only based off of the script. Now Ravan includes this impressive theme, along with a lot of different mods, and the script works well! It is obviously still based off of MCCODES though.

What is my point?

My point is that Redux costs $120 (I did purchase it), and is quite frankly, pretty shitty out of the box. It is as if MCCODES does this deliberately, so you have to put in a lot of work, before you can compete with Mono District.

Ravan's Mafia Script 2.1, on the other hand, costs $15, and includes free updates.

I am WELL AWARE that Ravan's Mafia Script is infringing copyright, my point is that it works better out of the box, has more functionality out of the box, and looks more aesthetically pleasing out of the box than MCCODES does.

Hopefully this will change with MCCODES V3 (if it ever does get released). A less buggy script with all features working out of the box would be highly appreciated.

What are your thoughts? Does anyone else feel that the MCCODES script is not updated as much as it should be?

I don't think McCodes care anymore to be honest, there are sites out there running without licenses and I have notified but no actions were taken. In my honest opinion, McCodes should never try to release a new engine again as it's a scam. Not based on the money (as really 100$ for a whole game is not bad), but how they advertise it and how they try to represent that it's a finished game. Their way of handling business is pretty awful too.

I remember hearing that Raven Script includes some code that if the Raven server goes offline so does you game...not sure if this is still the situation.

I bought raven script a long time ago myself, not because i wanted the "Raven Script Engine" but because I ran an un-licensed game when I started out and I figured Raven Script would stall the process of taking my game offline.

Before you have something negative to say, I started with absolute nothing. I literally started with 0$.

I have come quite a way since then ;)

(before some tattle tale tries to report me to Dabs & CB, my game is fully licensed)

Mccodes don't care because of the cost involved in perusing such actions. Your looking at $500 usd and up to be able to take any actions. Yes they might be able to shut them down temporarily but unless "Legal" action is taken the hosting company will allow them to continue.

Not the mention the lengthy process involved in doing all of this. lawyers have to do their thing and so on and so forth. Now can they get their legal fee's back? Yes they can by rendering a judgment for legal fees. Are they going to pay up? probably not. Then your back to getting a lawyer to garnish their wages.

So in reality is it worth it for mccodes to go after "ALL" the people with unlicensed games?

So what should mccodes do with their engine? In my opinion they should have put encrypted files(s) that won't allow the game to work unless the game was Legally purchased.

It would involve a lot of time and money to get rid of these websites, and could be near impossible, if they aren't hosted in America. $120 for the script is not too bad, definitely better than when V2 used to cost $300. The script however shouldn't be sold in its current state, there are too many issues out of the box, not to mention missing php files.

I am not sure to be honest, some of the php files appear to be encrypted, I will take a closer look at them later. Half of the people who were on CE, probably didn't have a valid license.

The code had better be a hell of a lot better out of the box, if they are going to encrypt it.

As discussed: Ravan isn't illegal until proven so.

Everyone, whether legally purchased from MCCodes.com, Ravan, or torrented, currently have a legal game/code.

MCCodes's TOS only states usage of the source code illegal.

But then goes on to say that you can not have a beta stage in any game, and that you don't have any legal rights of the source code on your own server.

No-one will take MCCodes serious in a court case, as they have no ground to stand on.

By law, they may not indulge in trading like they do, because:

a) "automatic" copyright falls only to the creator

b) they have no business rights, and

c) if you are trading by an alias, you have to state it on invoices an in a TOS, eg. Spudinski Oosthuizen trading as Company name.

Please search the forum for a recent thread alike this where we discuss this in detail.

Maybe in the eyes of the law, though everyone knows that Ravan is MCCODES with a different theme and a few modifications added.

edit: nvm already stated, and if they encrypt the codes then you cannot edit it :P that would be horrible.
