which laptop is better?

Hey guys,

Looking to buy a new laptop and I have no clue on the specs and other technical things so i thought i'd ask the makewebgames.iomunity. My budget is £500 and I've searched and found two laptops. Now what i'm asking is your opinion in which laptop is better and in what ways.

I want the laptop to be fast and lag free. I also intend to keep this laptop for a couple of years so please do help. Please don't reply with any silly comments saying a budget of £500 won't get me anything good.

The laptops i have seen:

or

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180671792604#ht_2485wt_905

If any of you can browse around for me and find a better laptop with better specs would be great.

Thanks for reading.

Kind regards,

Danger Boy.

I would say http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-PAVILION-DV7-6002SA-AMD-3GHz-6GB-RAM-17-3-750GB-/270774506891?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item3f0b6b158b#ht_4431wt_1270 It has a better processor and other things like screen size, a dual layered dvd/rw drive, processor speed, and speakers.

I would wait for another response just to be sure, but I believe the http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-PAVILION-DV7-6002SA-AMD-3GHz-6GB-RAM-17-3-750GB-/270774506891?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item3f0b6b158b#ht_4431wt_1270 is a better choice.

I thought theirs no point going into the trouble of buying of ebay because if anything goes wrong i would like to sort it with a company instead of an ebayer, so i kind of found one on pcworld. I think it looks good and i'm more then likely going to buy it.

The link is: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-dv6-6001sa-15-6-laptop-white-09797915-pdt.html

Let me know what you think, thanks for the help!

a dual layered dvd/rw drive, processor speed, and speakers.

Dont all laptops have processor speed :S And most, if not all have speakers, even notebooks have speakers :/

But a dual layered dvd player isnt needed, unless your actually a bit of a kn0b who likes to show off about something totally unneeded and very easily worked around.

The internet isnt always best place to get deals. Go to local shops, even the little shops, they will even set it up for you etc.

http://h40059.www4.hp.com/uk/homelaptops/product.php?id=LK919EA&experience=direct - Would not get because the poor processor.

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-dv6-6001sa-15-6-laptop-white-09797915-pdt.html - good graphics card but poor processor (for the price you might as well get something better then this)

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/dell-inspiron-17r-17-3-laptop-black-09809627-pdt.html - looks decent but not sure on the graphics, it says intel hd graphics and I do not know much about intel things so find out if its a good graphics card first. (may want a better processor but its decent, idk as far as gaming though)

Out of all go with http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/dell-inspiron-17r-17-3-laptop-black-09809627-pdt.html (as long as it has a good graphics card) or the one on ebay I suggested, unless you find something better.

GOOD Processor speed, of course every pc/laptop has a processor speed, I said it has a good processor speed, and GOOD speakers..

Actually you only said it had processor speed, not that it had good processor speed, please, dont try and fool me

Lol, the Laptop you're recommending runs with a dual core processor yet the two that you're slating have a quad core processor.

So the processors on the two you're telling him not to get are in fact better than the laptop you're suggesting.

You need to look further than that....look at reviews, magazine recommendations etc.

For example HP whilst they do good laptops have a habit of overheating. How it looks aint everything if it shuts down in the middle of doing some work due to overheating.

if it were me I'd purchase the HP DV6-6004SA 15.6 inch Quad-Core Laptop (6GB, 750GB) and upgrade the quad core processor from AMD Phenom II Quad-Core P960(1.8ghz) to a better quad core over purchasing the HP PAVILION DV7-6002SA AMD 3GHz/6GB RAM/17.3"/750GB

@rulerofzu its called use a laptop cooling pad and don't sit the laptop on a bed or couch and don't keep it plugged in 24/7 and it will be fine I have had loads of HP Laptops and not one of them has overheated

I have a HP laptop myself. The thing likes to get hot on a cooling pad in a open enviroment where it has lots of fresh air. Its only a few yrs old and will slow down and start to make errors.

Some HP's are better than others so do your research which is my point.

I can't really say much about a good laptop under £500. A few words I will say:

- Save your money, and buy a Macbook (or a MBP if you're a good saver) if your a programmer or love innovation (i.e. long battery life and millions of minor tweaks that Microsoft programmers can't be bothered doing)

- You can get Google Chromebook, which is supposedly good for development, but it's not yet matured and would probably need a lot of waiting.

It's not just about having the money, and I would recommend if you can hold on to it for a bit longer and don't urgently need a laptop, then wait until you have £780 and go buy a Macbook from Amazon.co.uk. Amazing investments (depending on your usage for it, of course). I've had both a Windows and Mac laptop, and I can tell you, Windows isn't even worth comparing unless your budget is way out of the league for Apple's products. As long as your happy with your purchase, then it's all good.
