Rory_M Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 A couple of questions 1) What is OS? 2) What type of game is this (text based, 3d and so on...)? Answer both of these and i can help. :) Quote
rulerofzu Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 You can get a VPS in all of those. Suprising. CentOS is simliar to Fedora. As its based on Redhat Enterprise. In terms of management CentOS, Fedora and Suse all use RPM based packages which are widely available. Debian uses its own DEB packages for updates which are better than RPM's. Its a solid reliable system. It really comes down to what you need and what you know. If you dont know anything then stick with something that will take very little extra management so in order of choice it would be Debian ,CentOS, Fedora. At the end of the day they are base operating systems. What will determine how well it runs is the spec of the system in terms of drive, ram, cpu and how it is installed which will count. Quote
Danny696 Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 A couple of questions 1) What is OS? Really, this person is ment to take hardware advice of someone who doesnt even know the most basic of computer terms... Quote
Djkanna Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 OS = Operating System. All of those can work, I cannot say much more as I've only had limited experience with VPS' and that was using Centos, and at one point Ubuntu. Quote
galdikas Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Really, this person is ment to take hardware advice of someone who doesnt even know the most basic of computer terms... Maybe he is in such a high level that can remember the basics lol Or maybe.. He is a Wang (http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/why-youre-a-bad-php-programmer/), and that is the preliminary question :P Quote
a_bertrand Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 When managing a system yourself, you will find quickly that what counts is the possibility to run the same thing for years without worrying for end of life products (which means no more updates), and for something solid and reliable. For those reasons I would pick personally Cent-OS or SUSE enterprise (not the desktop version). Debian if you know it then stick with it otherwise not. Quote
