Hi All,

A little about me first. I'm from New Zealand. I've been playing one of the games based on MCCodes and I quite enjoy it, but I thought there are alot of things that I could do better.

My project.

I don't have a heck of a lot of time to learn how to proficiently code PHP. But I do have the spare $$$ to pay someone to.

I will be buying a MCCode license in the next week or so.

From what I have read soo far in this forum there are a number of things to consider.

1. MCCode has a number of bugs that need fixing?

2. A good template costs quite a bit but is necessary to make the game look any good.

3. Custom mods. to differentiate the game from the 1000's of others just like it.

4. advertising.

5. A decent server with decent bandwidth. ( This is my forte so won't be needing any help here)

6. DNS name

I have budgeted $2000 - $4000 to get the project off the ground, is this too much or too little?

Now what I want to know is:

Who would be interested in working for me on this project?

How would I pay you so neither of us get ripped off.

I really want to make this project work fast, but I want it all done properly.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Good luck, I'll answer some of your questions.

As a start up fund, $2,000 - $4,000 is a pretty decent budget.

Q, Who would be interested in working for me on this project?

A, As a paid programmer or a 'partner'?

Q, How would I pay you so neither of us get ripped off.

A, Hire someone you trust! - search around the forums and do a little research on the person you're hiring.

And I wish ya good luck again. =)

To get a good set of gaming "guts" up your budget is fine.

You could purchase a McCodes license, have it Secured, and several variations added to make it "unique" for easily less than 1,000.00.

Depending on the degree of the layout you are looking to have done you could spend anywhere from 75.00(Illusions) to 2500.00 ( SoS factory)

As all things you get what you pay for there are thousands of layouts done by Illusions found on this site and 2 of the layouts done by SoS factory can be found at

http://www.prisonstruggle.com

or

http://www.immortalnight.com

Advertising would be your next essential step once you have your game tested and ready for functionality.

A key issue here however would be to decide on exactly what type of game you are looking to run/own.

Have it planned and mapped out as that will make it far easier on any coder when they are designing for you.

Id say shop around rather than use McCodes.

Free engines.

ezRPG

ZapEngine

Paid Engines.

PHP horizons

You wouldnt need to worry about having to pay someone or spend the time securing the codes.

Securing the codes no, but paying yes.

No matter what engine you go with it will cost to have a programmer design unique modifications for the site.

As well as a layout would.

You'd save roughly 150.00 going with something like Horizons on Security, but Then you pay for that purchasing the engine.

eh, It's all about what you want, apparently he's decided on mccodes, lucky for him there are a lot of options available with mccodes.

Whats up with everyone recommending Illusions, i have personally never seen or even heard of him making templates. I thought he was a programmer.

Anyways, I can be of assistance with graphic portions of your game, such as weapon pics, housing, layout etc. I have many examples, just look through my posts and I believe my prices are reasonable.

Please PM me if interested.

I would recommend a custom engine, you can get a pretty good one for your price range. But mccodes can do i guess.

Could you give us more information on your project?

What gene is it going to be, mafia, military, fantasy etc?

You are looking to hire how many people and for what part of the game?

e.g a gfx guy for template etc

a marketing stratergiest

a programmer etc

Actually SOSfactory didn't do Immortalnight they do although have a portfolio

http://www.sosfactory.com/logos1.html

Also may i suggest reviewing other peoples work

http://bluetrendzdesigns.com/portfolio.php

Blue tendz did my template on http://www.crimgame.com

You need security as a first if your going to use MCCODES but as i think Zed said you want a trustworthy person to do that, also with graphics don't think cheap is better it's just tacky as are cheaper coders.

Good luck with your project if you need any help don't hesitate to contact me on here or by email (have to ask in pm for email).

also im just curious is that 2-4k USD or NZD?

EDIT: when i say trustworthy person im not referring that anyone here isn't trustworthy i am simply saying it's better to have someone editing the files for a few days than having someone do it in 2 hours and then get hacked at a later date (time costs money but also gives peace of mind).

Ahhh...yea i just looked at sos and didnt see a demo.

Eh i like the basic layout but if you break it down it looked a lot like the 3 column layout found here by shavedbravada..

ANYwho

2500 for either of those designs is a bit steep!

http://www.alternate-creations.com did zu. Thought id throw that in there seen as I said i would given the opportunity.

Having been recently working with horizons it has much more scalability than base mccodes does. The way the engine has been designed so that it can use custom scripts specific to only the module that requires them and its overall structure is well worth the price tag in my opinion.

Security on another hand can cost anything from 50 - 300 dollars (50 being the cheapest and the most vulnerable versions and 300 being look through every single file for exploits then fixing any bugs and so forth).

Also i would suggest Dayos forum it's alot better than the MCC generic exploitable forum but stear away from Cronus modifications (no offence intended).

Wow thanks for all the replies and messages!!!!!!

I have found someone on the market place on this site.

From doinkinator (Saturday, July 3rd 2010, 4:56pm)

We also offer full game development including marketing for 1500 dollars you can have a fully custom game using a custom engine designed by our dev. Team as well as a heavy marketing campain structured by our marketing department which will guarentee your 2k users your first week open. We currently own multiple custom games that bring in over 4500 a month each based off the same structure we are offering here.

And his site (which is down at the moment due to development) http://www.pixelfusionpro.com/

If anyone can give me some feed back in dealing with this guy that would be a great help.

I am currently noting down anyone that has messaged me so I can get in contact with you if I need any help or the above deal falls through.

At this stage I am not looking for a partner but I am going to be getting a server that is most likely overkill so I may be able to offer some very cheap hosting.

I really want to see how the first game goes before I try partner with anyone. But I am still keen to have good coders in my contacts list for game updates and such

i usuly charge $400+ for a unique game BUT it uses my site framework (the basics of the site are made) all you pay for is the modules being made $10-20 ea but i dont market the game

Second thoughts here guys :P

I just saw some of the work from pixelfusionpro...

Its very amateur seen bugs and all sorts. On the other hand the artwork is very nice.

And all the games seemed to have a reasonable amount of online players

I'm guessing that horizons, is worth the extra cash then?

FYI I'm talking 2-4k US$ :P

I have no idea how the templates work. So how easy is it to add one to the site?

Posted

Horizons is a nice engine, just be aware that the amount of modifications available to it is very limited, People use MC simply because it has a huge modification libary, with Horizons you need to find someone who has had experience with it and can proficiently make modifications to it.

Tbh for 2-4k you could get a custom engine made that would be truly unique an before buying an engine you have to think will it suite your game

Ie my game shadow realm ... There was no engine out there suitable for the needs of the game.

I like the sound of that!

If I spent 1k on the engine, then $500 on a template / artwork. Would that be a good ratio of spending? or am I better off with a better template or getting someone to do both?

Posted

You could spend $1,000 on an engine, but that is exactly what it would be an 'engine'. - I think for $1k you might be able to get a half playable custom engine that's it IMO

Posted

In my honest opinion i'd say it would be cheaper to get MC strip it recode sections switch out methods with newer ones and secure it.

I am a friend of floydians and horizon is a amazingly engine but the only draw backs i see if that they GUI is difficult to edit.

This.

If you get MC, it's still MC.

And people will know it. I'm with Zed. You gotta spend money to make money.

This is true, it would still be MC.

However, there is an amazingly high amount of support, add-ons for McCodes, where-as any other engine you are looking into quite a good chunk of coin if you have no coding knowledge at all.

All the Free Mods found here on these forums alone equal out to quite a bit of money to have a coder swoop in and custom code them for your engine alone.

That being said, I'm no great fan of McCodes either. However, at this point in time, it is the most easily modifiable, most supported, and there are a quite a few McCodes based games out there generating quite a good deal of money.

It's all what you are willing to put into it.

2-4k US cash into any engine frankly will get the ball running, it's far more than most start off with (which is normally a hope and a dream).

If dumped into mccodes you can divide your money a little better, as it wouldn't cost near as much to have mccodes fixed, and modded as it would to have a differant engine done to your liking + Mods.

Bare in mind, Most modifications run anywhere from 10.00 up to 150.00 cash. There are thousands of modifications for free here on these sites alone.

For McCodes.

So you can take 20 free ones from this site, even at an average of 5.00 per Mod that's 100.00 you just spent. 5.00 Is rather low for any mod that is worth a flip as well, i'd say the norm cost would be between 40-100.00 For advanced modifications worth a damn.

Just my two more cents ^_^
