Curt Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Hello everyone, Over a Year ago now I First wanted to make my own online rpg game like the ones i enjoyed playing at that time. Now i have a game that is doing ok and seems to be on the rise... Im looking for some constructive criticism about my game please...from a developers point of view... I Have spent countless hours developing the game and im sure i will spend countless more developing the game even further....Also i tried not to "CLONE" other games but rather do my own thing...not sure how well i did with that but i did add a few of my own custom features into the game. Thanks for Reading and I hope you guys check it out and leave me some feedback :) Thanks, Curt Thugbattle.com Quote
Zero-Affect Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 If you try not to clone other games why use a engine which is based on cloning TornCity (if you have limited skills i can understand). Thugbattle.com User: demo Pass: demo Also your website is exploitable maybe you could do with a hand[mp]118[/mp] Quote
ddgamedesign Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Actually pretty decent, I like the feature set. Great start! My observations: -- Lots of options for searches, lucky dip, etc. -- The template: Eh. Not a big fan of the dark template really, rough on the eyes over long stretches of time. Some of the little graphics are nice though. The 'Thug Battle' placard up top during gameplay is a little large and cheesy looking, and it forces too much scrolling during gameplay. The Main City screen is spread out a bit too much for my personal taste, forcing a LONG scroll down to get to the options. -- I like the Back Alley thing, Cars, etc. Lots of decisions and options, and good amount of crimes and school classes. Good work! Quote
Curt Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 first off, thanks for the comment. Also, ive seen many successful games using this engine that is no where near a clone of Torn City. I understand what your saying about the engines being the same but besides that i took no motivation from Torn City at all....I dont and have never even played that game. I have signed up of course just to see what all the hype is about and in my opinion that game is not that great at all...i believe it simply had the advantage of using the mccode system when it was very new. Im not saying its a bad game, i just dont think its the best game out there... also i believe everyone has "Limited Skills"...because one person cant know everything about PHP. Some peoples skills are more advanced than others yes, but everyone is limited some way. Im not the best coder and I dont claim to be, I do have a Motivation to learn and I continue to do so everyday, I enjoy developing my game and communicating with players. I do the best i can :) lol... Thank you for the response crimgame.com :) thanks streetsyndicate, I done most of the Graphical Work for the game myself...and as you can probably tell i suck major at it. Graphic design is not my strong point....lol but as always i do the best i can, i tried to keep the layout simple and load time low for it because i know how a dial up player feels when it takes 20 minutes to load the layout of a game...lol Thanks for the comment and observations, i will keep them in mind when i make some changes to my game :) Quote

furydevo Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Actually, I'd call that a good thing. It's important that people try to break games before they are promoted, because it will cause a lot more damage later when you lose a large player base because of some PO'ed player trashing your game. I tell everyone that plays my beta to always break the game, if possible. That's half the fun for the tester crew! Quote
Spudinski Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Well, nothing is 100% secure in this world... Anyways, to the point; your use of colour is awkward to say the least. I'd suggest using another colour scheme for your game. Quote
ddgamedesign Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Spudinski: Agreed, and it does do a lot of my sense of a game like this to have colors I can look at for periods of time. I threw this top graphic together for you; its a spare graphic I had this made by a pro artist for my own game that I didn't use, and I added your game's name to it. Feel free to use it if you wish. It has some gritty details to it, and it "brings you in" to a rough, nasty city in a subtle way, with a "spraypainted grafitti" font used. Colors are muted, balanced and its fairly easy on the eyes, IMHO. Quote
Curt Posted May 21, 2010 Author Posted May 21, 2010 WOW, very nice :) You will see this on my game soon, and I am very grateful for this. Thank you very much streetsyndicate :) Quote
dementor Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 I liked the game to easy to level thogu as i think was suggested in your forums and a bit to much graphics for my computer to handle but good job  Quote
Curt Posted May 22, 2010 Author Posted May 22, 2010 thanks for your opinion dementor :) To be honest i tried to keep the layout as simple as possible and tried to keep load time of the layout low. This is because i know how dial up players feel when a game layout takes forever to load. So i tried my best to keep my game dial up friendly :) Quote
GillBate Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Though you need some unique feature for your game and also interface. You may modify some free web template to yours though you will get some experience from CSS template and make your game look better. Quote
Curt Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 Thanks for the review Octarine :) Quote
sparky44863 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 being a mod for curt on thugbattle, your not the only one to notice the large amount of cash circulating. I personally think we need a full reset with a few tweaks to the economy(like bank caps and removal of higher up houses). Quote
bineye Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 a full reset is a simple way to piss off your top, most active players Quote
