Players who paid : When do they pay?

Hi,

wondering your experience with your own game and players who pay for items, subscriptions, services...

I see huge games like Evony are offering big newbies packages with special offers before 7 days so I bet games having a good ROI must make profit from newcomers as from long terms players, is that right?

I bet effective games are making 30% of their profit from newcomers (less than one week) then 70% from long term players (more than one month or even more), but it's really only a feeling so your point of vue would be greatly appreciated if you have any comment or idea :thumbup:

More or less the 30% / 70% you say is what I experience myself, however take in account my game is kinda odd, as players either love it and stay... very long (about 5 years as I still have players since day 1 (or nearly)), or leave within the first days. The staying players tend to be the biggest donors.

My own policy is the following:

- The game is completely unlimited (you can play as much as you want)

- The game must be completely playable without any kind of payed add-on.

- Payed add-on are only small advantages to their owners.

Lately I even pushed my politic much further:

-You can have access to all premium objects even via in game gold, or via player referral.

So basically you are never forced to pay. However, I tend to release every now and then new premium objects / features, and this keeps the budget on track.

If you make a turn-based game that takes prizes it almost guarantees quick donations so that users can get ahead early.

However, these are risky as sometimes you do not make your money back, so make sure you know what you are doing haha

I've ran a turn-based game like this twice, made money the first time and lost money the second, however the loss was due to a poor decision made by my partner at the time...

Custom scripts are always a good idea 5% of every donation male as a price would be a perfect solution so they play the entire time lets say a month and at the end of the month for most legit (level 4+ atleast 5 days active play) referrals or top donator so say...

10 members donate 10 bucks

1 player donates 20 bucks

the 1 player gets 6 bucks in return and the website earns 114 in profit
