Unless you created it all from scratch or the person who did specifically gives you copyright and resseller rights then I would suggest keeping well clear. I'm not sure first hand, but I imagine being sued is nasty business.

If you dont add in the nessisary database details the scripts cannot conenct to the rightMYSQL database and thus will continuely fail to connect.

Well lets not forget about google wave and google maps. Both brilliant new designs by google. Nether the less with google taking over 2 billion searches a day worldwide with no other search engine getting anywhere close to that. You say they never created and search engines and advertising, I never said they did. All I was suggesting is that google took an idea, made it better and made the internet an equal playing field where small sites had the ability to compete with big ones. When you look at the big picture of what google has created to make our life easier and how we use it in normal day life, i think its fair to ssay they play a big part in the internet and communication revolution.
-
Which basicly means that they connected internet users with relevant information and built a advertising structure and ranking system that would expand comercialization expenentially giving small internet businesses the power to compete with the web's biggest contenders, so that anyone could create the next facebook, ebay, google. It basicly ment that you could start making decent profits on online products and gave the internet more strengh than ever. Don't get me wrong though, its not google alone who done this. But they played their part in revolutionising the way we use the internet. Theres no doubt about that.

lol. I wouldn't say that I am any better or any worse than other designers on here. But there are big differences in our styles. I consider myself an artist because I paint an idea and a vision. Most other designers on MWG are more like graphic architects, they design templates to specific specifications and use the structure to style the design. I think its important to know, when your looking at a design, what style of artist it was designed by. To give you a rough idea of the difference between us, my designs take atleast 16 hours of work. A "graphic architect" as I like to refer to them will probably spend less than a quater of this time in their designs. So as much as I appreciate the compliments, its really an unfair comparison.

Actaully, if it wasnt for the two guys who began google, the internet would have continued to go un-indexed and therefore not acceptable for commercialization. It is infact solely down to the pair (forget thire names) at google who built the structure for comercialization. If it was not for google we would have no way to index web pages and filter relevant information. So you wouldn't have anyway to find specific data, no way to sort the data into useful information and no way to drive traffic through advertisements. Because lets not forget that it was infact googles adsense that pathed the way to commercially viable internet companies. I see you point that yahoo or bing could have done what google achieved. But the fact is they had no idea how to use the internet untill google pathed the way for comercialization. They owe their success to google. Google in respect owes their success to the developer of the internet an ex scientist at cern who gave it away for free in the first place. Theres the history lesson. ;)

Hi, I was reading an article from WebProNews called What if Facebook Added a "Blog" Tab? Now im not going to talk about the blog, instead im interested in a small section of the article. " There is also talk of Facebook working on its own web email service." Now I done a little research and it turns out that a few hints of facebook email have been handed out by the company. Now I was watching a Google I/O Developers Preview of Google Wave. Now google wave is kind of an email system. Instead of sending an email you create a Wave. The wave has unique features. You can add/remove people from waves, they update character by character so you can watch people udate it in real time, the wave can be edited by mutliple people at a time, can contain video, real-time games, charts, ands tons more. If you havent researched Google Wave then you should do so. I have free invitations if anyone requires one. Now the interesting bit of googles conference is where they named a few companies that were working with them to produce products using Waves API's for its release near the end of the year. One of those companies named was Facebook. To me thats apretty big link between the two companies. Needless to say that Wave is really a remarkable product that will change email forever. This could put facebook in the driving seat for future email. Theire whole userbase given accounts with a revolutionary new email system. They're smart you have to hand it to them. Whats everyone elses take on this?

Freedom City Design Showcase [Devtek-Solutions Design]
Taxed replied to Taxed's topic in Art and Content
If you looki closely you will notice the white vetors around the content are the same as the ones I used to shape the buildings. After I designed the buildings I want to design the content in the same manner. So I duplicated the layer containing the building vector and rotated it and used it for the content as a different colour. I wanted to keep the theme the same throughout. So yeah I made it peace by peace. Started with the sky then then the buildings, then the building details, then personalised details and finished off with the content boxes. -
Freedom City Design Showcase [Devtek-Solutions Design]
Taxed replied to Taxed's topic in Art and Content
Thanks everyone, im glad its liked. I spent a fair bit of time on this design. Zero-Affect - The outline of the content boxes was going to be slighlty darker and probably a little rust or something but it was cablebox's wish to have the content borders in white. Rasheed - The watermarked text over the images was requested by cablebox. Its just basic copyright protection. -
Today I am going to show unviel the Freedom City Design Concepts. Designed by devtek-solutions for MWG's Cablebox who is verry happy with the results. Freedom City is a haven for all sorts of characters; gangsters, conmen, drug lords, the list goes on. Freedom City is trying to fight back and as a result the structure of the criminal underworld is constantly and violantly changing. Perhaps out of all the chaos a new structure will emerge and you will find yourself standing, looking out the window of the finest penthouse in the city, at the city you control. I would like to add at this point that I am graphics artist for devtek-solutions and we offer competative prices on website design, graphic design and game development. All our work is completely custom and was designed step by step with our clients vision in hand every step of the way. You can visit us at http://www.devtek-solutions.com . I hope you like the designs. Freedom City will be updated with the new design shortly. The link at which it can be seen will be http://freedomrpg.com/ . You should also know that the game is not mccode and that infact it is a highly upgraded version of gangster legends. Which can also be purchased from devtek-solutions.com. I hope your all looking forward to the release, I know I am and I know cablebox is.

Hi, I was browsing w3schools and found some very usefull statistics that I thought I would share. Ill will be giving my thoughts on the different statistics to see if we can use them to our advantage. Browser Statistics IE8 = 13.5% IE7 = 12.8% IE6 = 10.9% Firefox = 46.4% Chrome = 9.8% Safari = 3.6% Opera = 2.3% Looking at these stats we can see clearly that firefox is the most popular browser. But your thinking about how these stats could help you. Well, for the most part it wont. The only thought that I get when looking at these stats is that they show you what browsers you need concentrate on when your checking the compatability of your sites. For the most part the popular browsers are all quite up to date with current web standards and theres plenty of documentation around if you do come across any problems. Javascript Statistics JavaScript On = 95% JavaScript Off = 5% Now this to me is a very interesting statistic. Ive heard many people talk about not using JavaScript because not everyone uses it. Now JS has a fairly bad reputation, but its actually a very powerful language. When its understood it can be used in some fantastic ways. The Neab Engine by a_bertrand is a good example of what you can do with JavaScript. These stats say to me that there is no longer a problem with JS losing you traffic. In my mind JS is a wonderful language that can really bring a site to life with functionality. Display Resolution Statistics 640x480 = 0% 800x600 = 1% 1024x768 = 20% 1280x1024 = 18.2% 1280x800 = 17.3% 1440x900 = 10.5% 1680x105 = 10.0% 1920x1200 = 4.6% Now this suprises me. I didnt think so many people were using larger resolutions. As an artist this means that my work would be improved if my designs were catered to larger resolutions. Its important I think to keep focus on the behavior of web users. Adapting to the requirements of the majority is an essential skill in any trade. With the web at our hands you can dig up all the statistics we could ever need to stay in with the most current trends. I think all these statistics will in some way help me shape my products to maximise traffic and revenue. Take a few minuets to be mindful of what the statistics mean to you and let your mind wonder and see what pops into your head. I hope you found this as insightful as me, thanks for reading.

Hi, I am starting this post to keep a detailed list for public use detailing known hacks in the Gangster Legends Engine and reccomendations on how to solve them. This is not a full list of hacks, only the hacks we have found. A brief hack session to test basic security performed by Zero-Affect came back positive with only two hacks found. This does not however mean that there are no more bugs in the engine. Undifined Location Hack - Documented: 02/02/2010 This hack is performed on the register page and allows a hacker to set an undifined location upon registration. The problem is specifically caused by allowing the players the choose their starting location. Recommended Fix Use a predifined starting location and remove the option from your HTML Form. Set your SQL to use a predifined number upon row creation and remove the php for the location from the register.php. Session Hack - Documented: 02/02/2010 This session hack is performed using the standard instant chat system that comes by default with Gangster Legends. The chat system can be used by hackers to steal single player sessions or given enough time the majority of your player base. Provided they have prior knowledge of the GL database structure and naming conventions they could manipulate the database causing you to lose control of your game. Recommended Fix Im sure you could fix this by using "html_entity_decode" and "stripslashes" but I havent tested it myself. I personally removed the chat and intergrated a more personalized instant chat. But there are methods out there you could use to secure the chat if you dont want to intergrate a better one. I hope the documentation on these known hacks helps you. I will add more if/when we find any more.

I could help you, but I have no idea what your trying to do. Could you perhaps explain this in a little more detail?

I like the idea of EA bringing more exposure to the web games market. I think with EA in the market web game developers are going to have to really work hard to develop a high end web game now.
-
I will be creating a thread later today once I have finished building the showcase for it.
-
I haven't tried it myself but I suppose you could. The best way to do this I think would be to use javascript. The problem is that without hitting the travel button the page will not reload so conventional php would be able to do the job. With javascript you would be able load the images when the location is selected by pre loading the images inside hidden divs. If you dont know much about javascript there should be some scripts on the net that will be able to do this simple task. The link below should be the perfect script for what youa re trying to achieve. http://www.randomsnippets.com/2008/02/12/how-to-hide-and-show-your-div/

At Devtek-Solutions we have all the orgininal scripts that are listed in the top thread, most of which have been customised with improvements. Which is why we refer to them as V1 codes rather than the originals. Since there has been quite a bit of interest lately in the Gangster Legend engine, I will create a new post later on today to showcase the engine and all the v1 codes that we currently have for sale. "Gangster Legends is an advanced but simple to develop gaming engine. Its based on a mafia theme, but we have had no troubles reworking the content and flow of the engine to allow for many different game themes. The gaming engine in the right hands is a very succesful platform that players enjoy. Bootleggers.us was once based upon the gangster legends gaming engine. Although the game is now a lot more advanced with many custom features I think it stands testiment to the power of the engine and the popularity of the engines features." I hope this helps fill in some gaps and I will update you all later today with a showcase and pricing/purchasing options. Also to remove ,- like Dayo says, you will mostly need to remove them from the files themselves. However some of them you should be able to remove by editing the money function. EDIT: Functions.php Replace: function money($value){ return "$ ".number_format($value).",-"; } WITH: function money($value){ return "$ ".number_format($value); }

The links were lost during the revamp of our coorporate site. Once the revamp has been fully completed I will setup the existing previews and information then update this post.

Google Wave looks amazing. It is going to transform the way internet users access information all over the web.

I agree that too many projects is a sure way to ensure the downfall of your projects. But looking for a partner is a tedious job. To find the "right" partner that is. Personally I have trust issues, so I wouldn't partner with anyone I havent had plenty of experiance working with. Saying that my partners are freidns in real life, so ive never had to worry about finding the right partners. But on here it is different, to find a partner that compliments your skills and abilities is a difficult thing.
-
Redex, have you considered that hes lookign for a partner to help with the workload on his current projects? Not everyone requestiing a partner has a game being built, some look for partners before work starts on a game.
-
Thats is a good explination as to why it was so rubish. As for the threads topic. You need to pich your ideas better. I would take crim's advice, he knows more about this business than you do obviously. As it stands I wouldn't even contact you in regards to your proposition. It sounds more like you woke up this morning, decided you wanted to make a game, then started looking for a partner before you had even thought any thing through. Thats my opinion.
