http://codeelf.com Hi folks, this is a text-only strategy multiplayer game you play by actually typing in commands and fantasizing you are logged in a BBS. It does feel quite a bit like a boardgame and generally has you capturing squares, building farms, hiring wizards, stealing from your neighbors, inciting revolutions, forming alliances and even attempting to bless everyone, while fighting to gather all the resources a powerful master of the grid would need.

I regularly play a web game based on the Richard Bartle game of Waving Hands, called Warlocks. I also have a game that's a little different, but equally as fun, which you can try out here: The Grid: http://codeelf.com/games/grid/

Yes, it's called 'Man'. It's supposed to be similar to the old game Tron Deadly Discs for the Intellivision. You can teleport, throw discs around, chat with other players, and change your color to hide yourself. Enjoy! Man: http://celtruler.com/games/test/

The Grid http://codeelf.com/games/the-grid-2/grid/ It's an elaborate system made up of row upon seemingly endless row of perfectly chiseled squares, each ruled by either a fool or master strategian. Once you enlist into this new world, you will be sent an activation link, which, when followed correctly from your email will transport you into The Grid in the form of a single entity known only as: a square. You will rule this square - or see it ruled by another. Upon logging in, you will notice many other squares, fighting for survival, or to spawn themselves like amoeba unto the far corners of The Grid. If your spectacles are not too foggy from the freezing air in this wondrous utopia, you will notice a...

Working on a side action game, there is a link to it at the top of the page now for those who are curious. It's done almost entirely in Javascript. http://celtruler.com/games/thegrid/

So whatever happened to the game, is it playable? Meanwhile, enjoy this unique text-based game: The Grid

Comet http web server push technology for browser games ?
oldbard replied to oldbard's topic in Web Developement
Thank you for the suggestions. It would be great if there was a free method of doing this and also a way to do it without having to make files on a server (like if your server is being hosted by a web company that doesn't let you run the kind of commands to install nginx. Again, the game I wish to transfer from Ajax to something faster: The Grid -
Without getting too hung up on the headers at the top of the page, have you actually even played the game?

Sniko, it isn't meant to be a graphical game

Hi, wondering if anyone has replaced AJAX with Comet successfully, and could explain how. My current game, The Grid at celtruler.com should implement something faster than AJAX. -

http://celtruler.com/games/thegrid/ Hard to describe... Some strategy, some luck, you'll just have to check it out. It's free and easy to start playing right away. The backend is all PHP and MySQL and the frontend is a lot of AJAX/Javascript.
