a_bertrand Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 The IP is not considered a personal info. So no I don't agree here you risk nothing about giving the info out. Also, if somebody tries to hack a game, I would say it is good practice of us to share as much info as possible, if this person is unhappy about his privacy then he/she shall try to attack us... and I guess he would lose as he/she started the attack not the reverse ;) It's like saying the FBI cannot publish pictures and names of wanted criminals. Dominion Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 (edited) Actually it depends where you are. Some consider it under data protection some don't... US don't consider it wrong well you could argue that the UK's data protection act covers it (some of the time anyway) especially if it's a static ip. Best plan is to just not do it... Example of such a thing - http://www.eweekeurope.co.uk/news/swiss-court-outlaws-ip-address-snooping-9665 ← only collected the IP's Edited May 10, 2011 by Dominion Quote
a_bertrand Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Indeed it depends where you are and what you do with the IP. Here saying address 127.0.01 hacked my site hardly fall into any privacy issue in my opinion. Why? Because there is a huge difference between going to a peer2peer soft and check who offer illegal stuff and reporting an hacker which tried to hack your site. At least that's my opinion. Finally, we should check NZ laws as the site is owned by NZ people not by me ;) Quote
Dominion Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I was just giving an example of how laws are different for handing out IPs. On a general level it’s always better to avoid it. Quote
a_bertrand Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Bah... again I don't agree... We should just check the rules about where the forum is hosted as this is the laws to be applied. Once we know it, then we know what to do. However I would be much in favor to release to other members all details of potential hackers. Quote
Dominion Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Fair enough everyone has their view. Let’s find out where we are hosted before carrying on something that could in fact be pointless anyway. ;) Quote
