Is there any time scale involved? IE person clicks on the page it gets set to -1 and has to wait 5 mins for it to reset after they leave that page?

If there is no time restriction then I would not bother doing it like this at all. $_SESSION['mCLICK'] whilst on the page. Destroy the session when they leave.
