Standard Development Status types

I've always been a fan to see the status of a website, yet in this browsergame world not many use those.

Here is a list of types I'm aware of.

Standard development status types:

  • dev - Dev or pre-Alpha-Versions are used to present more or less working features. These versions are usually intended for developers and for test cases only.
  • alpha - Alpha versions are the first test versions for public audience and contain the very basic features. As alpha versions usually contain a lot of errors they are not suited for productive systems.
  • beta - Beta Versions are unfinished versions which contain most of the features but are not tested yet. These versions may still contain severe errors so productive use is not recommeneded.
  • RC - Release Candidates are final test versions. The versions contain all features of the final versions. The intention is final testing and the elemination of all remaining bugs.

there is a "prototype" first normally, or also "tech preview".

However in web games, generally, a game is never finished, until he dies. So those standard states don't reflect very well the current status.
