1. Text based genre seems like it is getting smaller these days. Most games still going on the vote sites or google - have been around for awhile with a stable player base. Even if you login to them; almost every month someone is posting they login because habit. I shutdown a site about 5 years ago and would get bombarded by old players asking for me to bring it back. So one weekend I had some time and did and next thing you know...nothing. Players logged in...got excited and left almost immediately. I sold another one of my games about 3 years ago, new owner was shutting it down; once again I was offered to take it over(buy it back) and I did. Because I didn't want it to go offline. It received a bit more players, spent some money on adverts through newrpg.com and some vote sites...some new players but just tough to keep interest. It does seem like the genre would do well due to mobile. But text base games in itself was already niche; so it seems harder to gain new long term players. Compared to those looking for instant gratification. While I love the genre - its definitely hard as a developer to stay motivated to continue in it. Compared to buying a $25 template of a contruct game, reskinning and crossing fingers to get a big win as a new release game. Looking forward to reading others opinions on it as well.
2. Hey all - Checking if anyone can provide a new home and some TLC for a old school text based browser game. - Using Bootstrap for layout with multiple themes. - Procedure PHP (Coding wise - this was developed before the MVC web boom. So each page contains all the code for that single page. [However there are a few files that contain general game functions.]) - In Game Forum - In Game Chat - In Game Private Messaging - 100% Complete game. Just don't have time for ongoing development such as events. Siefate.com I do have a demo account so you can see the game. If not registration logins you directly in. Just PM me as only 1 person can be logged into an account at a time. Anyone interested?
3. Looking to sell a fully functional browser based fantasy rpg. After putting the finishing touches on a particular project I'm ready to move onto another one...apparently developing is far more of an interest to me than to maintain or run the same. Game was not created with any engine, no outside plugins or external sources besides a few UI items that are well known. Its a persistent text based game that players receive x turns hourly along with a daily turn reset. Game theme is fantasy with swords, magic, orcs, etc. I would rather not share the domain publicly but happy to discuss via PM. (I dont want to take the chance of hurting the slow growing community of a brand new game.) Tech: PHP (Non MVC, Non OOP), mySQL, jQuery If your looking to buy an existing game with a community I'm sure there are others out there better suited than mine. In fact I would say if you plan to ask "how much I've made from the game" and/or base your offer on that...hit the back button on your browser and look at a post above or below mine. ;) But if your looking for a game that's made and ready to rock the world with your genius ideas...and willing to pay to jump start alittle...PM me...
4. First I wish you luck as you begin this venture and hope you understand that many of the people here are making great suggestions and awesome feedback. Majority that have been down the path your on and some that would be your customers. Oh and I'm sure its on your list to do but be sure to get a proper SSL cert for your secured areas like Client Area and Reset Password.
5. Its interesting to note your process on the logo...I figured the a was a seperate color representing the logo as "a splash" Good luck!
6. Well I was going to edit my original post but just thought to post an update...as its really been a large leap from the initial post. Siefate is a persistent browser based game that I hope to release in the next few months without a reset as we close out the final balancing round. I have around 15 active players testing currently so its been extremely helpful on gaining some great player feedback. What I was hoping here was to get some great feedback from other game owners - Guest above was helpful with the index page and would love to see it a step farther into game feedback. Once you register you get pushed into the game - no activation email or this or that. The theme of the game is a fantasy setting. Swords, Helmets and magic all take its spot in the battle system. I opted to not have stats but instead all is based on your equipment. While leveling provides trait points that improvement passive abilities in battle. Ability to craft, fish and mine are added as you level as mini games. Some questions I had: 1. Is there something missing right off the back the moment you login? (IE: You login and look immediately for this and it wasn't there feeling.) 2. Suggestions on things that I absolutely should/need to add prior to releasing and begin advertising? 3. A reason you believe it will fail. (Odd I know but I would love to learn from you in that regards.) Thanks in advance.
7. Makes sense - thanks I'll update here shortly as well. Have you logged in yet - I'm excited for when you do haha There is no activation so it's a quick registration :p
8. Boom! Done!! Guest thanks so much for the feedback provided above - I appreciate the time. Would welcome any additional feedback as well if anyone else has time.
9. Thanks - should be all fixed.
10. Finally - just about at the horizon of re-release. There has been huge headway in terms of changes from whats above. Plus definitely interested in comments and suggestions. http://dev.siefate.com 3 in game screenshots as well from current release. 11. Just to give an update of the in game layout now that it has been moved over -
12. Have to agree here. I was nervous as well when I wanted to do it but it wasn't too bad. Paypal already has a decent IPN help section but its the code samples that did the most for me. We've basically setup it up and just implement a if else statement on status - Paypal will send back the "product id", user id and status of payment itself. So all you would have to do it tell it what to do when it does. Paypal Sample Scripts: http://paypal.github.io/sample-apps/ Good luck!
13. Thanks for the feedback thus far - markup was incorrect. Using v3 but was utilizing the 2.3 docs..hehe Either way I refined it a bit more...not responsive at the moment. But would love additional feedback. http://siefate.com/repo/layout/
14. Hey - Was hoping to get some feedback on a potential game layout to replace an outdated one. Screenshot:   Live Demo: http://siefate.com/repo/layout/test.html Really appreciate your time to help -
15. I'm sorry but I'm finding it hard to reply due to your sig image. Love it! ... Have the similar issue with ds-revolution.net; people tend to type .com by habit and wouldn't want the same issue starting off. Plus new name gives the psych of a new start for me. o.O That's it...yea O.o
16. Hey all - I know I just joined but would love to get some developers feedback on my current project. Its the revamp of a game I developed about 4 years ago. Game was pretty strong in activity the initial months but feel due to my own inactivity from growing up. Now back in the running and making headway. I'm in the midst of development of fixing and changing a bit however the current game is still strong. So I'm really curious on any sort of feedback about it especially now that I'm actively working on it. Title is called Guardian of the Lore but will be renamed to SieFate. I had the domain gotlore.com but lapsed on my poor judgment. Its a text based multiple player rpg not based on any engines. The initial idea was to evolve around the Guardian system which is a 2D map dungeon that players battle everyone who enters. Once a player is defeated they are kicked out - last remaining player wins the title and power. Power gives them simple things like access to special town with unique skills and a few "staffy" powers like making it rain/snow in the game or a message alert for shout outs. Tournament happens every few days plus 1 hour from the last event so all time zones get a chance to do. Activities include exploring map, fishing, crafting and mining. These are majority of the areas I'm improving on with the new power of the web :P Next is also the battle system. While its similar to the standard auto battles most text based games have. The difference is players can select their skills to use in battle. Players pick up to 10 skills that get cycled through the battle. Skill 1 is done round 1, skill 2 round 2 etc. I'd be really interested in getting any feedback across it all. Game play, Features, UI, everything. One thing to comment the game still uses an outdated Jquery; but so far still playable...few people that have tested get problems in Chrome and FireFox randomly. URL: http://www.siefate.com/index.php Thanks in advance to anyone that can spare a bit of time to try it out.
