W3Theory || Peter Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 (edited) Year 1920 - The Game Well I was holding off, into the game was about a month away from beta, to release this in the public forums. I have been working on a project with another web developer on a current mafia based game, Year 1920. Even though, there are plenty of Mafia themed games out there and it is hard to stand out, I believe this game has that given spark. The story plot is still being developed, but the overall idea/concept is what we have been using to base all of our features and pages. There is no hiding the fact that this game started off as mccodes and we know this always pushes people away. So we want to make the point that at this moment, we have very few files that are related to mccodes and before we release we are certain just through our programming those will be gone. As you will see all of our actual features are custom based, the only files we are using at the moment are the globals/functions and header files. We didn't think you could deliver a unique game if you are just changing up how the feature played from what you were given and went in a new direction in most areas. The concept of the game is that it is based in the US during the 1920's. This is during the Prohibition War, which was when the government made it law that Alcohol was illegal . This started a chain of events in where criminal organizations came together to abuse the system and bootleg alcohol to local illegal bars, called speakeasies. The more detail concept that we are still developing will be based around an Italian immigrant coming from Italy to Ellis Island looking for that "new hope". We wanted to capture as much realistic events/concept as possible to give it that overall feel. What gives it that spark? Well for starts, we switched the game into a more strategy based game play. With you having to always decide how you spend your time and what you spend your skills on. Each character class is granted with 14 skill sets and 4 user stats. Skill sets will be used mostly throughout the game and helps decide the outcome of your actions. We have also took out the whole structure system on how the layout was structured and game was played. Some examples of features, are for instance, crimes which are based on skill sets and are located on a map which is different for each city. Attacking system is more controlled by you on how you actually fight each round. Shooting range to give you that feel of actually participating in the game. Home system which makes you see progress on any upgrades that you do your home. And more.. You can follow us at a couple different portals: Homepage: http://www.year1920.com Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Year-1920-The-Game/198658023510293 We hope to bring a new style of entertainment and gameplay to the overused mafia theme. Thank you, Year 1920 Staff Edited July 29, 2011 by W3Theory || Peter Quote

W3Theory || Peter Posted July 29, 2011 Author Posted July 29, 2011 Well I am putting all my time and effort into it. I just wanted to create something that I would love pretty much haha Quote
Damagedcity.com Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Are u creating your own custom ngine for this or mccodes ?? Quote
W3Theory || Peter Posted July 29, 2011 Author Posted July 29, 2011 Well, i started fully off with McCodes, I can't say I didn't. But all features that people use have been custom made, I wouldn't say it's an engine that people will be able to create other themes off of. It's set to be made for one game. The database was restructured and the only two tables left are the users and userstats (which still had changes to them), the rest have been deleted and are gone. The only files that are still structured the way McCodes is. Though as time has been going on they are slowly losing that feel and becoming it's own. Quote

oxidati0n Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 I have to say, I am beyond impressed with the graphics. We aren't taking that exact path, but sooner or later, we'll be graphically-beautiful too. ;) Quote

W3Theory || Peter Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 Update: We are getting closer to our new projected (multiple times reworked) Beta Release. Date: September 15th 2011. What is left: - 7 features left to create - 10 Page Designs left - All Items left to be created In the next week or so, we will be trying to put together the new and improved login, which we hope to better attract players and have a simpler look to it. The problem we been noticing are new ideas or changes to current features and so by working on them it pushes our deadline back. I did not properly address the time it would take to make all the right small touch up or changes, to give the game a better feel. I'll keep you updated and soon to be a few more screenshots of the game posted on our facebook page. Quote
bineye Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Peter, I was on the facebook gallery and gotta admit, the game looks epic. Well done, very nice job. Saw a few typos here and there, but I'm sure those will be gone by the time you release. Good luck with the game, I can tell it's going to do well. :) Quote
W3Theory || Peter Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 Yeah, I have someone that I will be hiring when we start updating all the content to fix all my grammar and spelling mistakes. Even though I am from the US, my english is the worst. I am more of a Math and Science man, so always had the issue haha Thanks, glad you like it so far. Trying to do something new, atleast with what I have created thus far. Quote
Davee Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Is the BETA of this game going to be released on the 15th as stated on the website? I've pre-registered, and told a few friends about it and we're all wanting to know if it'll be open on the 15th. thanks. By the way, the game looks great. Quote
JohnGato Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Total Mafiosos Registered: 100 \o/ Cant wait till beta opens Quote
Maniak Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Not to put a downer; but there isn't 100 people pre-registered.. I coded that section + did the DB for it when I was working on it (not that I did much, haha).. And some of them are tests. Although from what I have seen; the game looks AMAZING ;P Quote

W3Theory || Peter Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 So the game will open on the 15th? :) Hey sorry for the delay in response, at the moment we are not on track to get the game ready. We are still missing about 6 page designs left to be made, since my time away to travel back home I have not been on top of that. We will keep everyone updated on news/beta release. Thanks for all the great comments! Quote
