I'm also looking for a designer and messaged Peter yesterday, but I'm still waiting for a response.

Some of my favorite browser games over the years have had little-to-no graphics and personally I don't mind at all. However, I think I'm in a very small group of people. I started playing text-based browser games around 2003 and don't really play very many any more. I'm actually working on a text-based game right now. One example of a game that does have lots of graphics, but very very amateur graphics and also has a huge playerbase is Kingdom of Loathing. Those players don't care that the graphics suck. They prefer it that way. I think if you have a great game, you could find the right people who don't care about graphics.

First of all, welcome to the forums! I think a lot of programmers would be apprehensive about contributing lots of their time to a large-scale project if you're only promising them a percentage of profits that may never come. Are you planning to fund the project yourself and pay the programmers as the work is done or you do you have something else in mind? Even if you have a great idea and lots of business knowledge, you'll probably have to pay the programmers an hourly or set fee rather than only an ownership stake or promise of future royalties. Another option is to learn to program yourself. Depending on the nature of your project, you may be able to learn enough programming in a few months of studying to begin working on it. Some browser games are successful and some are failures, but business knowledge is usually not the determining factor in whether they succeed. It sounds like you've put a lot of thought into your idea which will probably be the more important than your business knowledge. I wish you the best of luck and please update us on your progress.

What do you mean by this? You don't care if you're using an illegal script? Well I do and so should the rest of the members here. I won't help you if you're trying to use the raven script.

I suggest ezRPG over mccodes any day if you plan to program most of the game features yourself, but if you have the skills/knowledge to program you probably would figure out how to install it yourself... What problems are you having when installing ezrpg? Did you read the readme.txt file? First you have to create the database you're going to use and add a database user to it. (I do this in cpanel, it's fairly simple) Then follow the instructions in that readme file: If you have any specific problems, feel free to ask me, but you should try to follow the instructions first.

It's a great engine for people who want to program their own features, but the lack of mods available might be one of the reasons why there aren't very many people who are using it. I used it to create my game, but I personally probably wouldn't purchase any mods. If you created a lot of good mods for sale for the engine, you might make the engine more popular at the same time.

I don't see why everyone is confused about this. Many businesses that grow quickly get some kind of venture capital investment which is similar to what Kieran-R is offering. Facebook wouldn't have been able to grow as quickly as it did without receiving investments by venture capital companies. This seems like a reasonable business offer for anyone that is working hard on a great game, but doesn't have the financial means to properly market it. Since this would be a real and serious business investment, I would have to disagree with you, rulerofzu. If Kieran invests in 50% of a game/business then he would own 50% of it for life, not for a set number of years. He should also have access to the cpanel and everything in it if he owns half of it and invests thousands of dollars into it. Just make sure that you sign a contract to protect both of you and I personally would only make a deal with someone involving thousands of dollars if that person lived in the same country as me (the US), but that's just me.

Thanks for sharing your opinions. I talked to someone a few months ago who was a co-owner of a mafia game that uses rounds and makes $5000 a month, but after hearing the views of those of you who have replied, I think I will just do another persistent game. Maybe I'll even try two versions of my game (one persistent, one round-based). We'll see how it goes I guess...
-
Although I've never seriously played one, I've seen games (mostly gangster/mafia) that have rounds that last 30 days or 90 days or whatever and then it resets the player stats and starts fresh with a new round. This seems to allow new players an opportunity to be the best in the game and creates a more fast-paced competition between players, but I wonder if it gets tiring or frustrating for long-term players who have to start from scratch after they have worked hard. I am planning a business simulation type game that I will probably be working on and releasing this summer and I have considered using rounds, but I can't make up my mind. What opinions do you guys have on round-based games? Do you see any positives or negatives besides what I listed?

You have too many }'s there. I think you need to delete the one on line 68, but I'm not sure. Look through the logic in your script and figure out which one isn't needed.
-
Well, first of all, it looks like this line: die ("Please enter a username and password needs to be finished: die ("Please enter a username and password");
-
I'm hoping this will make the ezrpg engine more popular. It's a good free engine for someone that knows some PHP/MySQL and just needs a good starting place to build from.

What kind of price range should we expect this to be sold at? It sounds great!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3... what do you think of it? I've been a big fan of Call of Duty since Modern Warfare 2 was released and I got both Black Ops and MW3 on release day. At first, I was really frustrated by MW3 because I was dying more than I did in Black Ops so I went back to playing a lot of Gun Game mode on Black Ops, but after they publicly released the Infected Mode on MW3 recently, I have been playing it again and now that I unlocked the AK47, I do better in Free For All matches too.
